Hi there,
Recently I got myself a nice CO Helios for my explorations in low-sec space. I really like the scan strength bonuses and of course the cloaking.
Now, when I find a analyzing/salvage/hacking site I consider myself a little richer! However, the sites I found in low-sec were all guarded or triggered. Is it any use to keep looking for any unguarded sites? Sometimes I got friends who help me to kill the rats but sometimes I'm on my own hoping to find an unguarded site. Is that any use? Are there unguarded sites in low sec? I used to find unguarded sites in 0.5 with my cruiser...

I do a fair amount of low sec exploration and to date I have only found a single site that didn't have any guards in it what so ever. Unfortunately the only real ways to do it are 1)Have an alt in the cov ops to scan and your main does the sites (or vice-versa) 2) Put together an all in one exploration boat (Gallente ships are good for this) and have good scanning skills 3)Tech 3 cruisers
Good luck and happy hunting

other options are - from high sec ify oure in a 5-20 man high sec corp - spread out and scan wormholes and then from those wormholes scan for links to low sec. IF both wormholes are good, in quite entrance and exit then grab some afs or zealots ( have at least one with scan prober on board) and go run sites that way
Or do what i do as u grind level 4 high sec missions train up assualt frigs and Heavy assualt cruisers probably a group of afs can do most of the low sec sites even those anamolies if youre smart ( at least blood raiders and serpentis ones) in teams. ( ishkur and ishtar are great) the radar and mag sites take someone with hacking and tanked the others will kill rats ( zealots good for amarr sites, ishtar good for gal ones) plant afs around low sec stations ( go for 15-20m each plus another few mil for rigs and fittings) they are fast so from most camps u will survive if u move around ( have aceptor pilot scout ahead)
low sec have single bs rats in the belts and up to faction bcs. Low sec anamolies will spawn the odd bonus factional battleship as well. 1 in 15 or so sites.
Youre other option is a pos if u find a wh link to quite system setup a small pos with basic defenses use it as a safespot esp if u find a cluster of sites clear the sites take the pos down move back to empire.
Theres ways for organised toons to do it just gotta train required skills and be smart

Edited by: Swearte Widfarend on 10/09/2009 15:58:30 If you are completely solo, you can scan your site, bookmark it, go back to base for you combat ship that is also fit for hacking/analyzing, and run the site that way. Lots more time. The Ishtar is probably the best bet for an all-around...

There's at least one low sec radar site that has no initial spawns and the triggering is random (from zero ships to a dozen, which is a bit of an underwear moment when you're in a covert ops with sisters gear).
Imho you should bookmark the site and return in something that can complete it. An ishkur can do all the low sec radar/magnetometrics that I've seen however it has some trouble with the elite cruiser tanks so it can be slow, which brings its own dangers in low sec. A Vexor is much faster (unless it's one of those sites with 100km between cans) but more vulnerable to gate camps.

The problem with doing that is due to the nature of exploration, you often find yourself a few jumps away from home.

ive been thinking of a cruiser hulled exploration ship that could do mag and radar sites while tanking the rats, while the covops is fantastic for finding the sites it has no ability to withstand damage. and medium probe rigs are now available.
perhaps a combat recon like the rook would be viable? -

In high and low sec you generally can't hack the cans if there're enemy spawns in the vicinity, so you can't tank and hack. In wormhole space you can tank and hack in class 1-3. I don't do 4+ or zero sec.
In high sec there's really no point to using a rook (imho) as the sites are trivially easy. There's not really any reason not to do so though, I guess. Although, imho, some light drones to get rid of the frigates do come in quite handy.
In low sec... Well, I guess that if you want to risk a hundred million isk ship then it should be fine. As I said earlier an Ishkur assault frigate or Vexor T1 cruiser can both do radars and magnetometrics pretty easily for 5%-25% of the price.
In wormholes... I'd use a lot of caution in class 2 radar/magnetometrics and I wouldn't attempt to solo with it in class 3s. (Bear in mind though that this is me eyeballing a ship that I don't fly.)

I've done a low sec Radar site with my Helios. Never under estimate the power of a Hob II, though it's going to take some time,... ( 1 hr )
Had about 5 spawns, and each group could've killed me easy if I hadn't taken some evasive action.
The rats cant hit for sh*t at 65km, and a speedy Helios can stay at that range from everything that spawns. The single hob II you should be carrying will kill the cruisers, it's just going to take time.
I would've warped out and come back but I had already started hacking the cans before anything spawned, so as not to have the site despawn I had hang around. I would lead everything out to 300km killing the frigs, destroyers, and which ever cruisers I could then warp back to one of the frig wrecks and go back to my hacking while the rats retargeted and flew back.
I pulled about 50 mil out of the site thank god, but I know people who have pulled only 5 mil out of it. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

I'd imagine the cerb could handle most hacking sites in low-sec quite comfortably.
i'm not familiar with the ship but i believe with ab, 2 hardeners and a pithi booster and codrbreaker you can solo these quite easily. with ur last high slot featuring a probe launcher. lacks a cloak which i suppose is a pain, and you can probably use a mwd to help avoid being ganked. _________________________________

I use an ishkur, then you can scan, hack, salvage, cloak, and fight stuff (t2 hobgoblins FTW) _ _ _

why not have an alt scan down the system, with hacking/salvage/analying, and then have your main warp in a, say a drake, to tank all the rats?

Another, albeit skill-intense option is to fly an Orca with a CovOps and a combat ship in the hold. You'll want a very good scout if you do that in low sec though.

Nothing can compare to ishtar when it comes to exploration, you can fit all your modules for tank/utility such as salvagers/codebreakers and still have good dps from drones.
