The Merchant Marines Official Press Release
The Merchant Marines (THEMM) hereby withdraws its membership in NORAD and will seek to vacate NORAD space forthwith. THEMM will cease mining and NPC hunting operations immediately in NORAD space but vacating the area will take some time. Much as we wish it were otherwise moving all of our corporate assets after months of being settled in is a large undertaking. THEMM forces hope to do this peacefully and will not initiate aggression but will of course defend themselves should the need arise.
Be it known that THEMM does not make this decision lightly. THEMM values its word as golden and takes its committments very seriously as a result. Indeed, we view this more as NORAD having left us than the other way around. Perhaps not experessed in their words but certainly by their actions (or in-actions as the case may be). As we hope to maintain our good name and have proftable and fun dealings with other corporations/alliances in the future we offer this brief overview of events so you may decide.
1) Nemesis, a NORAD ally (hence our ally at the time), launches a surprise attack on THEMM forces...basically all miners. It was one of the most overtly treacherous acts EVE has ever seen on this scale (certainly that we've been witness to).
2) A ceasefire is arranged while the NORAD council tries to sort things out and find a diplomatic solution. Nemesis refused to compromise or own up to their cowardly attack. Nemesis was kicked from NORAD as a result.
3) Nemesis refused negotiation and compromise and war resumed. The attacks are in NORAD space and should invoke statements in the Alliance Charter to have all NORAD members respond. With the exception of R. Inc. (a provisional member at the time who has since left and joined CA) and Iron Brigade no NORAD corp lifted a finger to help THEMM. In some cases other members of NORAD were mining merrily along while Nemesis and THEMM were fighting practically next to them. We have reports of some NORAD corps explicitly telling their members to not fight which is in direct contravention of Alliance rules. A few Norad pilots/ceos did respond positively and those have our appreciation for there words of support.
4) Fountain Alliance honors its pledges of support and sends a large fleet to help. Nemesis sees they are now hopelessly outgunned and sue for a cease fire to leave NORAD space which is granted (and Nemesis does leave without further incident).
5) Nemesis returns a week later and after a post on the Norad foums asking if they were still KOS with FA and being told no they launch a sneak attack on FA.
6) Rather than have to fight NORAD seeks to give Cloud Ring (basically half of NORAD) to Nemesis. That after perhaps a half-week of fighting has passed of which they never partook in anyway.
It should be noted that THEMM is not a PvP centric corp. Never has been and make no claim to be. Nonetheless we seek to stand our ground in defense of our allies and friends when needed.
It is for the above sequence of events that THEMM feels it has been abandoned by its purported allies. NORAD's willingness to make a deal with a proven treacherous corp is more than THEMM can abide and was the final straw on this camel's already serioulsy strained back. THEMM values its principles over monetary loss or difficulties. It would seem most NORAD corps are the reverse. How any alliance could abide a corp like Nemesis in their midst after they have shown themselves to do be deceitful and willing to attack "friends" without warning is beyond our ability to fathom.
It should be noted that some pilots from norad corps actually did there duty and upheld the policies the alliance was founded on and those people have our respect.

It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation as a NORAD Fleet Commander.
In the past six months (has it been that long?) I have flown with the majority of NORAD. I fought in the Northern War, defended the Outer Ring and Cloud Ring regions, and lost an unknown number of ships. I defended our ideals and our little democracy against all enemies, internal and external. However, it is as a member of the Merchant Marines that I am leaving.
I will step down peacefully from my position. I am a simple pilot now, one among many.

Good luck with your future ventures, try not to let other corps ruin your fun too much, or make your fun ruining other corps

On a personal note, I will really miss a lot of people in NORAD I have had an amazing time with you and I would not have traded it for anything, not even all the battleships I have lost. -----------------------------------------------

Sorry to see you guys going, but after such a betrayal who could blame you, I think its the right thing to do, go find an alliance which actually means something and is worth defending.
