The Merchant Marines Official Press Release
The Merchant Marines (THEMM) hereby withdraws its membership in NORAD and will seek to vacate NORAD space forthwith. THEMM will cease mining and NPC hunting operations immediately in NORAD space but vacating the area will take some time. Much as we wish it were otherwise moving all of our corporate assets after months of being settled in is a large undertaking. THEMM forces hope to do this peacefully and will not initiate aggression but will of course defend themselves should the need arise.
Be it known that THEMM does not make this decision lightly. THEMM values its word as golden and takes its committments very seriously as a result. Indeed, we view this more as NORAD having left us than the other way around. Perhaps not experessed in their words but certainly by their actions (or in-actions as the case may be). As we hope to maintain our good name and have proftable and fun dealings with other corporations/alliances in the future we offer this brief overview of events so you may decide.
1) Nemesis, a NORAD ally (hence our ally at the time), launches a surprise attack on THEMM forces...basically all miners. It was one of the most overtly treacherous acts EVE has ever seen on this scale (certainly that we've been witness to).
2) A ceasefire is arranged while the NORAD council tries to sort things out and find a diplomatic solution. Nemesis refused to compromise or own up to their cowardly attack. Nemesis was kicked from NORAD as a result.
3) Nemesis refused negotiation and compromise and war resumed. The attacks are in NORAD space and should invoke statements in the Alliance Charter to have all NORAD members respond. With the exception of R. Inc. (a provisional member at the time who has since left and joined CA) and Iron Brigade no NORAD corp lifted a finger to help THEMM. In some cases other members of NORAD were mining merrily along while Nemesis and THEMM were fighting practically next to them. We have reports of some NORAD corps explicitly telling their members to not fight which is in direct contravention of Alliance rules. A few Norad pilots/ceos did respond positively and those have our appreciation for there words of support.
4) Fountain Alliance honors its pledges of support and sends a large fleet to help. Nemesis sees they are now hopelessly outgunned and sue for a cease fire to leave NORAD space which is granted (and Nemesis does leave without further incident).
5) Nemesis returns a week later and after a post on the Norad foums asking if they were still KOS with FA and being told no they launch a sneak attack on FA.
6) Rather than have to fight NORAD seeks to give Cloud Ring (basically half of NORAD) to Nemesis. That after perhaps a half-week of fighting has passed of which they never partook in anyway.
It should be noted that THEMM is not a PvP centric corp. Never has been and make no claim to be. Nonetheless we seek to stand our ground in defense of our allies and friends when needed.
It is for the above sequence of events that THEMM feels it has been abandoned by its purported allies. NORAD's willingness to make a deal with a proven treacherous corp is more than THEMM can abide and was the final straw on this camel's already serioulsy strained back. THEMM values its principles over monetary loss or difficulties. It would seem most NORAD corps are the reverse. How any alliance could abide a corp like Nemesis in their midst after they have shown themselves to do be deceitful and willing to attack "friends" without warning is beyond our ability to fathom.
It should be noted that some pilots from norad corps actually did there duty and upheld the policies the alliance was founded on and those people have our respect.

It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation as a NORAD Fleet Commander.
In the past six months (has it been that long?) I have flown with the majority of NORAD. I fought in the Northern War, defended the Outer Ring and Cloud Ring regions, and lost an unknown number of ships. I defended our ideals and our little democracy against all enemies, internal and external. However, it is as a member of the Merchant Marines that I am leaving.
I will step down peacefully from my position. I am a simple pilot now, one among many.

I agree.
I'd love to here the side that explains away a sneak attack on an ally or the part where the corp that that performed the sneak attack is then rewarded with half of an alliance's space. Hell...I'd love to hear the other side that explains away any of it. For fun I was trying to make something up that could and realized I can't even fabricate something to explain it so now I am curious. Maybe this will be a time where truth is stranger than fiction.

Point me to the direction where NORAD was gonna give NM CR.. Please so i can take it up with who ever is left in NORAD.. The only post I ever seen pretaining to CR was made by a THEMM memeber. and I quote "We're pulling out of Cloud Ring. How **** stupid is it to defend a triangle? ."
Not unless there is a super secret uber forum that has all the info.. If there is.. sorry im working with what lil intel I got..
Again I am really upset to see you guys and girls go. I made alot of friends in THEMM.
Please take no offense to this post. I am just really worked up over the whole situation..

As for your specific issues I do not know what all is ok to blab and what not. However, if our officers lied about this it'd be a first. Ask your CEO or NORAD council members about it in the meantime.

Cabadrins suggestion was for all pilots to stage out of Outer RIng and strike as a consolidated force since the stations arent conquerable. Common Sense Tactics tbh given the limited pilot responses the last 2 weeks.
AS for the rest thats Norads business so until someone from the norad council disputes my above statements I wont go into digs or jabs at anyone. Let our statement stand for itself and away we go.
Have fun out there folks I know I intend to without all the petty politics and dictator wannabes.

Good luck THEMM. From my point of view NORAD was never a true alliance for it's members. no wonder it's falling apart. Nemisis's backstabbing is just beyond anything i can understand.. and NORAD's cowardice to accept them back proves to me that NORAD is desperate.
THEMM has some of the best directors and officers i have EVER worked with.. And i have a huge amount of respect for them. To me Taladorm is one of the best people & CEO i know. I enjoyed working with Cabadrin in our battles together. and So many others. I wish you the best wherever you go.. to all you alliances listening.. Treat these guys good.. they are A1..

Surely you jest my good man, I mean you were freinds of NORAD am I not right ?
And surely is it so that THEMM was in NORAD at the time, am I right ?
So when you did shoot at THEMM their alliance NORAD just looked the other way, am I wrong ?
THEMM then leaves NORAD after that betrayal which is only natural.
Now then NORAD is left with NEMESIS which knows their influence in NORAD now.
I sense a total dictatorship in NORAD in the future.
To THEMM I have this to say.......
You were betrayed by the ones who should back you up..... kill them.

Erm... ok. Nemesis are competent PVP corp, a bit more organization and they'd be really kick-ass (maybe they have improved by now).
However... calling a fellow alliance member not a friend... is weird!
If you join an alliance you have to be friend with all the other corps, you don't have to be GOOD friends, just friendly.

NSA would be a good choice but you have to understand we have a daily quota that you will need to fufil.

u right mate...things turned this way. Dont think there is any interest to debate anymore on this point. Things could have been handled a different way i agree. Now its past.
To clarify a point, we r not anymore NORAD and wont join back, we r indepedant and intend to stay.
On another hand, TheMM r speakin about dictator and relatings things, we will not dictate NORAD policy they can handle it by themselves. But the thing i feel weird, is that when the council voted against Nemesis a week ago u guys were backing it, cause its was in your interest. So far i think im right. Two days ago we made an offer to NORAD Council (democratic one for sure) to help them keep their territory against current threat. This was an offer, not an order. NORAD had an extraordinary meeting and all corporations voted about this offer. Which is still democratic for me? not? maybe im wrong on the democracy... This offer could have been refused by the vote but this wasnt the case. So this time the democracy isnt in your interest, so u decide to leave... i let u think about this...
edit : u also said we backstabbed. What could we think about two TheMM commanders joinin R.Inc and attacking the whole alliance they were part of...Things we havent done, and werent about to do.

NORAD don't air their pants and bras on the forums.
Crean is right on this. There are 2 sides to this Story.
I was sad to see TheMM Leave NORAD but it is their decision and I wish them all the best.
NORAD has a lot of work to do, and we will now get on with it quietly and democratically. Like we used to.

First, those who left for R.Inc did so well after Nemesis pulled their backstab routine.
Second, they are individuals who pay-to-play just like everyone and are free to make their own decisions. THEMM is not a slave camp where once in you never get out. Those who left can speak for themselves as to their reasons if they wish.
It happens all the time where some peep leaves his/her corp to go join a (say) pirate corp. Till you implied it I have never seen anyone use the following reasoning:
"OMG! George left Corp-A and joined m0o and m0o attacks us!! We must attack Corp-A since they clearly can't be trusted!!!"

NSA would be a good choice but you have to understand we have a daily quota that you will need to fufil.
16 x Notferr corpses a day
Should you fail to meet the quota you will be kicked out and branded sympathisers of the drunken and disorderly.

No.. but wasn't one of the conditions to have no THEMM in Cloud Ring? You guys just don't give up on it do you.
First you attack THEMM miners outa the blue.. a member of YOUR own alliance. Then when FA comes to help because NORAD wouldn't.. You agree on a cease fire till a vote is taken.. So basicly there is a vote. Vote is who leaves CR and goes down to OR.. NEMISIS loose the vote.. are told to go down to OR. Taladorm being the great woman she is said you don't NEED to.. That basicly you guys loosing the vote should be enough to let you guys know your wrong.. lets get back to where we were. NO.. this is totaly unaceptable to you. You threaten war with THEMM.. and leave NORAD.. battle insued. FA comes again and you run out and say you'll leave now.
Short time later.. you come back to NORAD with a "OFFER".. you get to hold your old G8 station.. (AS security... Pfft) and you don't want any THEMM in CR.. like isn't that exactly what was voted again't? either way.. NEMISIS is lower than LOW.. and NORAD have totaly turned there back on everything alliances should be.
Just look at Alerox's comments.. how more pompous can you get.
Originally by: Akan edit : u also said we backstabbed. What could we think about two TheMM commanders joinin R.Inc and attacking the whole alliance they were part of...Things we havent done, and werent about to do.
Akan please.. Me and Krea left THEMM this WEEK.. i joined up YESTERDAY.. THEMM left NORAD yesterday.. i made it well and clear to THEMM before i left. Personaly i don't care for NORAD anymore.. they made it clear they didn't want to support us.. so i have no problems with who i joined.

I find this all hilariously funny. So many pathetic flames, I just find it even more funnny cuz this reminds me of when Rome invaded CR.I think I will watch that vid for the laughing alone.
Please stop being a third rate flamer,I am tired of reactivating my account just to kick your ass. |

I think we have to give Alarox the:
"gg Rumor Mill" award
-and- the:
"Least Situationally Aware" award.
Congratulations mate.
Given the almost complete lack of hostility or resentment over this announcement on the forums of all places (except a couple NM guys), one has to assume this was the right move for THEMM. I'm just curious to see where we go next. :) |

Halseth once said "Politics in 0.0 bring drama and substance to Eve and make it fun, look at all the other forums on this site they are all about mechanics not about what the people actually do in the game." I hate to say but he is right, as much as I sometime am annoyed by the political infighting the back stabbing and general BS most alliances go through on what seems a daily basis, it brings pulp to the game and actually makes it fun. Looking back now my best times in Eve were when I was in Venture Corp they listened to me and helped me along and I helped shape things for a abit. I did political stuff for them from time to time and well it was hell at that time and annoyed me endlessly some of things people would do or say, I wouldn't give up the political arena for the world and would gladly go back in time to August and slap myself for thinking about leaving. POLITICS DICTATE THE AMOUNT OF FUN IN 0.0! So cope.

Well, Merchant Marines, if you're looking for a new home, even as an entry-level member I'd suggest looking up the Northern Star Alliance. Nemesis has put forth aggressive actions in our space and declared us KOS after we... er, discouraged them from working with Death Row Inc.
Anyways, as one who was a Merchant Marine in a former life, I believe you'd be more than welcome in Deklein -- I for one would be overjoyed to fly alongside the THEMM banner.
(inside joke: though would this mean we'd have to draw up another Andromeda Accord?) ----------- Fighting for the ideals of freespace, posthuman ethics, and rock & roll. |
