I'm curious as to how many people have drastically slowed, or simply stopped posting because of the 5 minute timer.
Note that this is not a whine, or a stealth troll, but a serious question. I ask because I've been afk for about a week, and I came back to this new timer. It seems to me that the "quality" of the posts on the forums as well as the quantity has decreased dramatically. Normally I'll browse like 2 category's at once and possibly be replying to 2 threads at once, but now I've just become discouraged after making 2 posts.

The extra step needed to bypass the timer has not drastically slowed me down.

Edited by: Creepy Goat on 11/09/2009 16:09:30 I had to wait 5 minutes to post this. Also, half the wityy comments you may think of when reading a thread will already be stolen byt the time you can post again
You must choose wisely on which threads you post, lest you miss an excellent trolling opportunity.

Yes, whenever I get that timer I cancel my post and thats that for me. I can see why they did it and realistically hardly anyone will miss my posts so its not a big deal. But its not really the way it should work.
The real problem is that they do not have 24/7 moderation. We've all seen keylogger links all over the forum staying there for several hours. A 5 minute timer really doesn't cut it if there is no active moderation. They have offices all over the world - timezones would not be an issue. --

Not being one to question the wonderful and brilliant folks at CCP - I gotta say, this has got to be one of the stupidest "band-aid" fixes I've ever seen.
It doesn't solve the real problem, and the solution is FAR more annoying then the original problem ever was.
I used to come here, read around a bit, make 3-4 posts and leave. 5 minute operation. Now it'd take me 15-20 minutes to do this... I'm not sitting here for 15-20 minutes waiting to post.

I'm not sure that's even necessary... There are plenty of forums out there that aren't flooded with trolls and don't have 24/7 moderation.
It takes an EVE account to post on these forums, doesn't it?
They could restrict the trial accounts to only posting in the "new citizens" section... Or put in a captcha during the trial account sign up... Or make people reply to a confirmation email...

HA! You fool! What kind of idiot goes and wastes their one post on something like that!?!
But you know, I probably shouldn't say things like that... karma and all... I'll probably end up writing out some stupid, thoughtless reply to a completely irrelevant post and wasting mine...

You could just post one reply to the thread and edit the reply many times to reply to other people's comments.
Thus bypassing timer. ^_^

Don't or soon you cannot edit anymore either. A long time ago you could bump threads without posting on them by deleting your own post right after posting. This was especially useful in trade forums. That is no more and I'm here to assume guilt for being a ghostbumper and killer of features...

yer because they are to stupid to find a decend way to stop the misuse that was happening :/ i really think ccp shoult get their act together (and i am still ****ed for losing billions on being hacked which i never got back, wtf was that? ****ing stupid is what it was, dont get how ccp can let hackers rip your account off and say "hey it was contracted away so nothing we will do" well thanks for saying "**** you" in nice words.. stupid ccp.. and still my main account is banned from the forum because of the hacking bbahh.)

Yeah, it certainly puts a smackdown on posting.
I usually surf the sales forums and hit them pretty rapidly when my wallet is phat... now waiting 5 minutes to make conterbids is a PITA... and being sniped is a hair puller.
