I've been mulling over either a ps3 or a 360 for a while now. The main factors were exlusive titles that I like, those being God of War 3 and the Halo franchise. I finally broke towards the xbox as I can be described as a mildly rabid fan of the series, and to this day the first will always be the best.
So in that spirit, I obviously snatched up the anniversary edition of the original along with 3 and a pre-order of 4. I popped in the CD and admired the new remastered graphics and sound of the original. I noted the sound didn't suffer from the horrible sound fade-out of the original during dialogue....
...but to me it seemed like the remake was worse than the original. The new animations in the dialogue scenes, overlooking the slight off-sync of audio and video, seem to miss or come up short on conveying the emotion of the original. The same can be said for the audio itself. And then there is the physical world, while obviously a graphical improvement, I think the brighter and more variety of colors somehow detracts from the aesthetics of the original.
If anyone made it this far and actually cares, discuss. You know what an answer is? It's a terminus -- an end. Answers are fine, but questions are where it's at. Questions bring us closer to understanding, -áthey can start a conversation or spark a revolution. So you might as well start asking... now.-á ~See you on the other side 6/6/12~ |

I noticed that too... There was something wrong with the animations, Keyes shouldn't fidget! all the NPCs, possibly exclusing the master chief all suffer from the "I'm talking now, so I need to strike as many cool poses as possible while I got everyone's attention! oh right, headbobbing is a neat trick, I'll try that!" the lighting is all wrong... the swamp in 343 Guilty Spark is so luminous that you don't feel an ounce of dread... and you don't have to use the flashlight even once in the whole campaign. (in the original there was quite a bit of dread running out of flashlight power at the wrong time) ...
so.. I just press the "back" button and enjoy it as it used to be.

Yes, that is it! I think you nailed it right there. They tried to make it "cooler" instead of retaining the true sense of the originaI.At the end of level one the soldier diving for the life pod.....they made him look like Marcus Fenix from GoW!
I think I'm going to do the same and hit the back button. Do you know if returning the sound to classic retains the audio positioning problem from the original or did they by chance fix that? I didn't notice any audio-problems... but then it could be a PAL/NTSC difference (I also didn't notice any such problems with the original release on X-box (did for the PC though)).
there are a few bugs/exploits that don't work in the new release though... like shooting a rocket at the underside of a platform half-way through assault on the control room to dislodge the banshee. but all the other ones that are useful are all still there. Everyone vs. Everyone Online

As long as I can squeeze a warthog in between the trees on the silent cartographer then we're all good. I didn't even know about the banshee one. You know what an answer is?
