Bad idea, most of the FC's are killboard junkies and can't PVP for toffee, FFS most of them don't even group their weapons, I wonder why that is?

If i'd group my guns, how could i ***** myself on all those killmails?
I find the milita is a lot of fun. But i can't pvp for toffee anyways. Yet it's still fun. So if you're new to pvp, faction warfare actually is great to get into it. And if it's just to get used to pvp until you can stay calm and concentrated in a fight. :) ----------------------------- Pew pew!

The advantage of FW is that you find more people flying t1 frigs and cruisers, which means you can be competitive doing the same. When learning to PvP, cheap ships really help. You're going to lose ships anyway, they might as well be cheap. _________

^^This.
I did something similar with the tristan and incursus. Basically the best way to learn in eve is by doing. Fly around both hi and low-sec and pick as many fights as possible. Roaming low-sec can be fun, but it's usually pretty boring; your best bet in lowsec is to challenge pirates to 1v1's. Suprisingly they're the most trustworthy 1v1'ers in EVE, they love to blow stuff up and they generally have respect for a newbie that wants to learn to do the same. Who knows, maybe you'll get an offer to join their corp.
Basically you'll learn something new in every fight that'll carry with you forever. I'm by no means a professional PVP'r but i know my fare share now, and I owe it all to jumping into it as early as possible.
Good luck and fly safe....mostly.

Pfft, when was "learning by doing" ever better than good old fashioned book learning?
He is right though. Since the Combat Shakes usually last about 20+ losses, you need at least that many to reach the point where your brain is able to function properly while dying/killing.
Keep it nice and cheap (but not too cheap or people will take offence from lack of loot) and die a lot. Only way to truly learn.

It's true, practice really is the best way to do it. But read things first. FFS my first kill took me about two weeks to get, because I was roaming southern Amarr lowsec in a ****fit punisher. Go where there are people, ask for 1v1's, and get to know the ships.

The only price is that if you have low SP you will have to fly ECM first.
But skilling for that don't take very long . . .

I guess they should be re-opening soon now that they're out of the tourney. The Agony PVP Basic class is well worth doing if you are totally new (or returning after years) to PvP. The next one (Wolfpacks) is probably the most useful of the lot as it deals with tacs (tactical bookmarks) quite a bit.
Got me back into PvP properly - I still go for the occasional roam with ex-corpmates in Agony.

THIS! and remember you learn a lot more when you lose than when you win so dont worry so much. just engage everything you are unsure about.
I dunno about EVE uni or the agony gangs, they just seem to roll in giant blobs where you learn nothing but the very basics. but maybe I just saw some super basic class or something.
when you get to amamake start by setting the major blobbing groups like heretics etc red as you will be mostly looking for solo pilots like yourself to maximize learning.

This is exactly why I'm currently stockpiling a bunch of ships to spend some time in FW.
I also figure that if I have a hangar full of ships ready to go I'll care less about actually losing them, and can also try out a few different fits to learn how and when they can be useful.
Definitely looking forward to something that generates a bit more adrenalin than L4s, though not being locked out of my main income generation either.
I would say looking up the Agony courses is well worth the effort, I had an awesome time on it and picked up a lot of stuff I use whenever I'm mucking about in low sec.

We run large basic/wolfpacks/advanced classes due to the large number of people wanting to take them. If we ran smaller classes then we'd never come close to reaching demand. While our core classes do tend to be large for this reason, our specialized classes (like cov-ops, tackling, etc) are much smaller so that you can get good hands-on experience.
Additionally actual Agony gangs tend to be small, since we don't have blues, usually 5-30 people.
And btw, our next PvP-Basic class is coming up on October 3rd.

Main thing though for newbie PvP'rs is getting a bit of confidence. "Giant blobs" with a GOOD FC (try Caldak as FC on the classes) are stunning fun and you get to go back for some more mayhem for free.
Its all just confidence I think. The blob gives you that and then a few pilots go on to mainly solo. They are the ones that corps like your own want.
I honestly think that anyone who wants to learn to PvP should simply join Factional Warfare. The reason is simple - you can fight anywhere provided the target is a valid wartarget (and there's thousands). I don't think the "traditional" method of learning solo pvp (ie hunting belts etc) is now the best. FW gives you lots of opportunities to learn without having to trawl the Amamake belts There are unlimited opportunities to try soloing.
Oh and the Agony class "blobs" don't indicate how much written material there is behind the classes - I mean you and I know what off and on-grid bookmarks are Morel. We know how to stretch the grid and lots of other helpful stuff. Your average newbie doesn't and nor are they likely to be scanning while fighting. Practice won't teach them how either (usually) so there is a place for teaching corps.
Anything that gets more people shooting at each other works for me - probably

I hear Red vs Blue is starting up this weekend. There's a thread about it, it's supposed to be awesome but I've never tried it.
FW is cool but it does require you to actually get off your keester and show initiative.

It is and it was awesome last time, but be aware we're not a training outfit and don't pretend to be.
If you just want to jump in at the deep end and pvp with a bunch of people who really know how to pvp then RvB might be your thing but we don't teach or train as such.
