I think some people like the pirate profession and don't care about sex. Of course it's entirely possible that there are some people that don't care about piracy and like sex.

Probably because the difference between being flashy and non-flashy has a pretty profound impact. Some gatecampers probably secretly wish they could deaggress and jump into highsec and be 100% safe.

Lowsec is the unwanted stepchild of the CCP family.
There is little incentive to go and stay -10 besides being '-10'.
Lack of targets that aren't: Other pirates, 60 man FW blobs that you annihilate but drop **** that doesn't make up for the loss of a handful of your gangs t2 fit BS.

Okay, if a NBSI nullsec policy isn't the absolute, risk-free, process of being a pirate -- with regards to sec status -- I don't know what is.
Check me if I'm wrong ppl, but are there not l33ts out there with +5 sec status roaming in blobs right now?!?
That's why nullsec is there......to kill like a pirate with impunity!

I was always under the impression that CCP offices were a like some horrific mangling of a mescalin dream, a bar and lazytown.

More on topic - Yeah... People like to be pirates because pirates are just inherently cool, even if it sucks from a game mechanics point of view.

Being below -5 allows people to engage you freely. This is a huge drawback.
You also can't suicide gank as effectively in high-sec when you are below -2.0 etc., depending on where you want to suicide.
If you got rid of the security status stuff I'd be murdering people left and right for no reason all day every day, without worrying about "fixing" it later on.
The only reason I fix my sec status is to suicide in high-sec or do empire wars. I do have hauler alts for none of that is planned.
