So reading further into these development notes, I think that even if some of the changes end up being crap at least it'll be something to do. Just a couple of other things that aren't really being discussed.
Profitable Space? Anyone got any thoughts on the whole concept of making space more profitable? Do you think this includes NPC space? because er... some guy I know who's in some incredibly lame alliance that lives in NPC space... he was interested in that sort of stuff.. My thoughts are that this won't be affected however we may see a rise in the value of the crap moons that reside in NPC space.
Extra Expensive Expansive Empires? Will increasing the resources/isk that is sunk into taking space really effect an alliances influence over an area? I understand the concept behind an alliance taking space that isn't "needed" will inevitably end up in it being detrimental to the alliance wallet.. but surely an alliance will "take" the space simply by not allowing others to develop sovereignty structures there? Or even have pet alliances who pay rent and upkeep of the systems? Will several bastardised alliances crop us to dodge alliance fees?
Sneaky ****in prawns? On patch day will nullsec suddenly become a refugee camp filled with wife stealers and obsolete structures that had been set in place to hold sovereignty under the previous system?
I guess waiting to see how it pans out would be too easy, so lets speculate and forum-fu each other here and see what we get right.

I cant imagine them getting rid of the moon system or revamping it to affect NPC space, just too radical of a step and too upsetting. And as they've said nothing about changing moon mechanics in regards to that I believe the system will remain the same, nor is there any pressing need to change it.
Yeah I can see what you're saying here. Thats probably what will happen and with less money spent of fuel, time spent fueling, and so on I think that a larg alliance can easily pay the fees and get by with sov, maybe only will matter hwen challenged.
I imagine there will be functions to POSs other than simple production, mining, and reasearch altho this should be their primary functions. Perhaps they will be used to "upgrade" space or w/e CCP was talking about, maybe put POSs on gates Other than that its for the best that they become the industrial centers or aids to 0 sec alliances that become targets of opportunity and destroying the infrastructure of an alliance rather than being simply sov holders. Means less deathstars to be sure becuase theres not as much need for them and maybe they will nerf health some to make them easier to kill for smaller alliances and corps looking to strike infrastructure?

I hope that the stuff about npcing to improve sov has an element to see who is npcing. We've always enjoyed npcing in the space of people that we were killing, and it would be a shame to have to stop that because it was helping them, as opposed to the locals saying "Hey, our supposed protectors the blahdefailblah alliance aren't protecting us anymore, but these bricks are out there killing the **** out of some of those dastardly serpentis. Maybe we should be supporting them instead."
But then again when I started playing 6 years ago I figured what with all the back story surely they would make an ingame immersive mechanic to free slaves available within 6 months or so.

MNU! We are serving eviction notices. What is 'eviction'?
Oooooh this is highly illegal, this is quite a find!
Anyways, back on track after the acknowledgement of a winning title. I would really find it interesting if there are POS mods you can anchor to effect the system, maybe some kind of beacon that would attract more NPCs to spawn or more anomalies or cosmic sigs to be explored. They did hint at possibly finding better ore, so they would either have to make existing belts become more dynamic or maybe what I suspect is being able to spot more Grav sites. What I do think is that with the costs to upkeep these new gate mechanics for the owning alliances, it might help failcascade some faster as maybe a bloated 0.0 entity that doesnt have the resources for the amount of space they try to hold with put much more internal pressure on them that much quicker. Anchoring POS at gates would be crazy but I can just imagine a small gang jumps into a system without scouting it and soon as they uncloak they get scrambled and shot up by POS guns...heheh.
As for making NPC 0.0 more profitable, I dont see a big ray of hope for that yet as with it being NPC and not claimable by player corps/alliances, the chances are low. Only way this could happen is if they bring that Viceroy thing in that was mentioned many many many moons ago...

Actually, if you read this dev blog, you'll find that they've actually suggested that they intend to significantly reduce the value of moon minerals, though they don't clearly state how... Here's the clip from that specific part of the dev blog. For full context, though, I highly recommend reading the entire blog.

In conjuction with the first change, this means that the best way to raise funds for an alliance will once again be to fill your space with as many people as possible, upgrade your space as much as possible and watch the money roll in.

There is a hint when they discuss the ferro-pimpin' pos ho'sÖ having thrown out the calculations for the alchemy "pressure release valve". Reworking alchemy to make cooking up high moon mats from the r16 & r32 moons more efficiently, would both drastically reduce the importance and income from r64's.

Hell, if upgrading your space allowed you to "find" previously undiscovered deposits of high-rarity moon minerals, the increase in supply will lower the price. No alchemy would be required. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

The improvements won't be available for NPC space for the time being, and I'm not sure it's going to change. Basically, they don't have sov, so no improvement...
Having lived in GW a good long while, I would have loved for it to happen (and asked for it), but it won't until they say otherwise. Guess GW will remain the ****tiest region of the universe :-/

Lets spin around and lets say :
Patchday. Dominion is out and all Moonharvester make only 25% like before. Now you gain Sov by using fuel (fe Strotium). Control tower have a 3rd Cargohold that must be filled with 'Strotium'. If you want Sov 1 you have to pay 1000+100*every Moonharvester+200*Reactor per hour. Sov 1 give you +50% on Moonharveter and +50% on Reactors. For Sov 2 you get +150% on Harvesters and Reactor, but have to pay 5000 + 500*Reator+Harvester. Lets say the Sov 4 gives you like 450% on Moonharvis & Reators, but you have extrem fuelbill too.
How does it chance 0.0 ? Moon mining in lowsec and npc space becomes less or unprofitable. You need to go 0.0 space and gain Sov to be a big player in Moon mining (T2). You need to concetrate you activities in a handful of systems with many moons. The time is over to pick out the R64 moons and give the rest to renters coz sov doesnt effect them. You need to give the hole system to a renter to become a profiable deal. The same you can do with the bounties of Rats. Normal 0.0 have only like 30% of the bounty like today and with Sov you get lots more isk.

could always allow for the moon mining in worm holes, but have the moon's resources depleteable and spawn something else once a week, but that is kinda off topic.

GW for the win.. its all about the roaming not the iskies!
Also there is worse, there is Syndicate
In all honesty though I am all up for making 0.0 of all kinds more populated and profitable, that way there are more players to kill! I think this is something that noone would disagree with.

I think it would be cool to "improve" the space you own by being able to add gate guns. The longer you hold sov, the more the rats spawn and the more isk you get from them. as for moon mining, with being able to find hidden deposits, you will have more of a mineral on the market, thus causeing the price to drop. It would be cool if POS's were safe spots, that needed less fuel for your mining/ratting operations. or if you could deploy more than one at a moon.
Or if you could set jump gates like you find in missions in the system to send you to your POS. and you could set up defences like they have in the missions as well. turret batterys and walls that you have to destroy before you egt to the POS or what ever you are trying to protect.
And if you could take sov away from NPC 0.0 space (GW FTW)
And ofc assult carriers and docking rights for titans...
