Edited by: neghsmke on 17/09/2009 13:09:55 New to Linux, so sorry if I say stupid crap.
I'm running Ubuntu, installed WINE with apt-get, and used Envy to grab my video drivers. I've gotten an older game to function. After downloading and installing Eve using the Wine Windows Program Loader, I receive the error "Failed to change to directory '/homes/user/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/temp/nsg8828.tmp' (No such file or directory)" when I try to launch Eve. There is no .wine directory in my home directory.
Help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info. I found the location but there was a temp folder with a different name. I copied it and named it the same as what the error message mentioned. Eve started up.
The only issue now is that the EULA is not displaying, and I can't scroll to the bottom in order to accept it.

Awesome. Past the EULA now. Computer locks on character load. Not just Wine, but the entire computer. That can't be good.
Thanks for the help btw.

Got into the game but ship wasn't rendering. I added the performance lines mentioned in the Evelopedia and locked on the next open attempt. Not sure what to try.

I manged to find this thread, which is rather helpful on the subject of Ubuntu at least. After following the steps outlined here, except for creating the launcher (since it hasn't worked properly), I can now launch the game and chat. My ship does not render however, and I am still searching for a solution.
My only current guess is that I have my video memory specified too low. <shrug>

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, the latest as far as I know. I have an ATI Radeon Mobility...um 3450 I think. Graphics driver is ATI 8.600-0ubuntu2. Wine is 1.01.
EnvyNG is a video driver package for ATI and nVidia (unofficial). It is very handy.
I appreciate any additional advice.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to install the 1.1.29 version of Wine. I can't find instructions through browser searches and their website doesn't contain instructions.
I appreciate any help you can offer.
