SO, I was channel surfing tonight and came across a movie i remember being totally badass when i was a kid.
When Jurrasic Park came out i was 5 years old and convinced my parents to lemme go see it. Was one of my favorite memories growing up.
So here I am in Barrow ****ING ALASKA with the airport shut down due to weather, and on comes the movie.
This movie is decidedly less bad ass when you know more about the world, and how **** works.
The plot holes, and the sketchy science....Jeff Goldbloom hitting on some chick using the chaos theroy has his conversation starter. The teen computer 'hacker' using a graphic user interface to drag and drop breaking a 20 million line program. -_-
Man tonight sucks. Tacky Lensflares in sigs ftw

your still a kid, you have no place in this discussion
but yea, Ive done the same.. a lot of instances with hacking especially... no hacker has a graphical UI >.> they are too lazy to write one.. and they dont need it.
edit. Or a TON of stuff relating to airplanes.. kinda stupid some of the crap they make up.

Anyone else find it funny when they were running away from the T-rex in a vehicle powered by fossil fuel, or was that just me?
And they have the internet all the way up in Barrow? And now I need to take a 5 minute nap before I have the energy to post again. |

As far as Hollywood hacking is concerned, Rule Of Cool far outweighs accuracy or practicality. And if someone is using a computer in a dark room, you can be damn sure the screen is going to project onto his face. ____________________

I know this... its a unix system...

I only recently saw Jurassic park for the first time and cannot see what the fuss was all about. Seriously that chaos theory guy annoyed the hell out of me.

I know what you mean. When I was a teen over a summer I had taken to doing scale car models (being stuck out in the middle of no where, surrounded by farm land, and the locals not having an IQ past 70 really gets old fast). I would go into the basement and while working on whatever model I was doing at the time would fast the fast and the furious. Some years later I popped the dvd in and couldnt make it past fifteen minutes before I pulled the disk. On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

Edited by: Dirty Wizard on 20/09/2009 22:45:33 I remember seeing Edward Scissorhands back when I was a kid and didn't understand any of it. Just that this guy has some sharp fingers and people don't like him.
I recently rewatched this movie and it makes complete sense now. I fully understand what's going on and am catching the subtlety.
Same with the Supergirl movie though I remember it better than how it really is. Much disappointment seeing it through an adults eyes.

You know, recently I've began buying a new movie to watch every day & I've come across a few that I've sat back, and thought "Oh, not how I remember it, disappointing" the likes of Titan A.E for a more recent example and as you mentioned Jurassic Park.
Although there is one movie that still ****ing rocks and always will..

Interestingly (or not perhaps? ) in one of the Matrix films (i forget which), there's a scene where Trinity hacks a computer to shut down a power station or some such. That scene made the news (fanboi news at any rate) because it was actually a genuine hack. Found this page with more details.
But in most other movies, you are quite right. Swordfish was a funny example. I particularly love the ones where two or more spinning things have to be 'aligned', or when one character comments "But it's got military grade encryption!" as a second inserts a USB flash drive and a progress bar appears for 4 seconds saying "Decrypting" Oh dear. The sad part is that if they tried sticking closer to real life, our movie heroes would be confounded by desktops FULL of icons, blue screens and as soon as they tried inserting their magic USB sticks, it would pop up "Windows needs to restart to complete installing your hardware".
There are tonnes of movies, not to mention music that really aren't the same when you watch them as an adult. I can't think of a movie off-hand, but I do remember being in Disneyland, Orlando a few years back. Went on some sorta ghost train thing (Alice in Wonderland maybe?), and all I could remember thinking was "that figure has a tear in its leg", "I wonder what RC circuit they used for the flashing LEDs?" and "where would be the best place to hide if I were an assassin?". If I had a 5 y/o kid, it'd probably be worth visiting, to see it thru their eyes. Thru mine it lost a lot of its veneer. -------------

Ha no, but now that you mention that fossil fuel part it is pretty ironic.
