Edited by: Jack DuVal on 20/09/2009 13:43:26 contact your uni's IT departement, have them open up port 26000 for TCP to be able to play EVE, and your Vent-server's port (default 3784, but usually differs) for TCP and UDP
you can also try to edit EVE's start.ini file to use a different pot then 26000 that has allready been opened up on your uni's network

Jack DuVal is correct on the 26000 port for EVE. Just tell a student worker you need it for an MMO and they will understand!

I maybe in the monitory here, but isn't the point of going to University to study and not throw your life away playing MMOs?
Seeing as my tax revenues are funding University's, I for one am glad that MMO game ports are filtered and todays youths are instead able to concentrate on their studies.
Lastly, please can I have your stuff?

Instead of being a ****, you could also understand that not all University students are morons and actually care about their studies. EvE comes second to my university studies.
I don't know if YOU have a lack of self control towards gaming and EvE in particular, but that doesn't happen to be the case with everyone.

And notice that CCP steps in to offer assistance - typical, the first people to help the guy out on campus are the dealers.

From experience I would guess that they won't help you. They class it as "necessary security". There's likely a little warning about some applications not working in the agreement you signed up to. If they have to open ports for one student they will have to do it for everyone. Next year move out and sort your own connection out, worked for me :p
You might not be able to play online but try playing some LAN games with guys in your halls.

Look for one of the network engineers for the university, ask them if they could open up port 26000 for your 'communication software' as you need it to keep up-to-date. Or you could say you're working on a programming project and need the port open to test the network side of your application. Usually network guys at colleges/universities are pretty friendly and would be quite likely to open a port for gaming.
Alternatively you can use a port scanner to try find what ports are open.

It is common for universities to close ports. Send an email to the Universities IT department and see what they say. It should be okay as that is not a critical port and no "servers" are hosted on it which is the main reason for closing ports.
You host a server with an exploit and dont update it... boom instant access for hackers/crackers/phreeks/spammers.
On another note, besides using a port scanner, you can also use telnet on specific ports.
Under command window type in telnet <IP address> <port>
Of course, the other side must have that port open for it to work, but thats typically how you can tell on a specific port. ------------------------------------------------- Stop exploding you cowards! |

Tax goes towards tuition fees rather than accommodation. Anyway, a nice and simple way to access stuff the university is blocking, is to buy a VPS and create a VPN on it, and port forward any traffic. Simples! _______________________ Now what starts with the letter "C"? "Cookie" starts with "C"! Let's think of other things that starts with "C"! Uh. . .Uh. . . Who cares about da other things?! |
