Some say anchoring 3, some say anchoring 5. So uh. What skills exactly do you need to mount a POS?

Edited by: Serge Bastana on 22/09/2009 05:23:26 Not sure about mounting one , but AFAIK it's anchoring 3 of POS towers and 5 for Outposts.
What you could try is using EVEHQ, it's a bit of software that combines EveMon and EFT and one really useful feature that I've found is when you look at any skill it shows a Dependancies tab that shows what is available at each level.
Anchoring has whole list of items like POS equipment with the required level of Anchoring that you need to anchor it.
You can probably use it without your api if you just look at the skills ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.
Nobody round here is offering the second one therefore your choices are limited! |

dunno, but running a pos is worse then Shat InTheBed imo. takes hours to put stuff up/take stuff down, and a pain in the ass to fuel.
although worth it if you have a solid plan for it. You're posting again!? Has it really been 5 mins?

First off EVEHQ is sick... I never knew that existed. Thanks. :D
Secondly, according to that, you just need anchoring 3 to mount it. But we'll see in the next couple of days if that's the case.
Thanks for your help. Just wanting to save some training time. :P

You need Anchoring 3 to anchor ALL the mods. You need Anchoring 5 as a Pre-Req to Starbase Defense (Use the guns).

Would you elaborate a little on this please? What takes hours? Does it take hours of active time, or, like training, hours of afk time? What is such a PIA about fueling the beast (besides the cost)?

You can only anchor 1 thing at a time. The tower's anchoring time or something depends on the size of the tower. Each mod takes an amount of time. Oh and on top of this.. the m3 of the stuff isn't small. If you are unanchoring your tower, could have someone swoop in and ninja it (I got a Large caldari this way!)
So you couple anchoring times with how many times you have to haul in the mods AND fuel. Also when you're unanchoring, it all the same! Now, consider that you have a corporation in 0.0 that has a handful of POS that you (alone) have to anchor, unanchor, and fuel.
THIS will cut in to your 'fun' time rather quick. Turns into a chore and not a game.

You really just need Anchoring 3. If you want to manually control the POS guns, you need Starbase Defense Management, which requires Anchoring 5 as a pre-requisite.
However, as a solo guy with a small POS, manning the guns won't help much because the POS will die if a dedicated enemy fleet wants to kill it. Without a gunner, the guns will fire automatically and randomly cycle through the targets that it sees, so it can handle the occasional loser who shows up to take a look.

This looks about right, in my experience.......I remember running off to train anchoring 3 on a character once when I needed to add an ECM battery - I'd already got the tower up, labs up, corp hangar up, assembly array up, and from memory the guns were in place, but I couldn't anchor my ECM.
