The one element missing from EVE are the realities of interstellar space:
comets, black holes, pulsars, quasars, neutron stars, super novae and deadly radiation in the vicinity of such...
I'm no astrophysicist, but I'm educated enough to know something about the objects and anomalies I mentioned.
These would provide a great challenge to players. Imagine, a super rich asteroid field orbiting a pulsar. Sure, you could mine but as you do your shields will slowly be eaten away by the massive radiation.
--don't get too close to black holes or you'll wake up in your clone --comets, a great source of minerals...if you can find one...and catch it.

I highly doubt your clone uplink signal could escape one of those... soooo we should add permadeath to make it more realistic

Confirming you haven't been in W-Space.
There are such effects added to some wormhole space where they affect positivelly or negativelly your ship stats. If what you want is dmaage blows just playing Recon 3/3 lvl4, very funny.
I'm all for new stuff, but there has been stuff allready added.

Sounds like you want Freelancer where you can mine near radiation fields that degrade your shields and hull the longer you sit there. ---- a reply which adds nothing to a thread or results in a thread being bumped with no new discussion worthy content is considered spam and as such warrants a forum ban |

That is not exactly true. Black Holes were also thought, at one point, to be simply "Science Fiction".
The idea and study of Wormholes has been around a long time and Einstein even attempted to prove their existence. They are definitely more science fiction than reality but just because we haven't proven them, doesn't mean they don't exist. People used to think the same about Black Holes. It may just be a matter of time.

Wormholes are actually the solutions to some General Relativity equations. Many times "unknown factors" in equations have been theorized about, with no way to prove them until later on when we had the technology to do so.

why would anyone establish a jump gate close enough to a black hole for it to be a relevant feature to be interacted with? Not even sure if that is feasible lore wise anyways.

Well, there are things similar (at least, as far as the danger is concerned). Mining Mercoxite, I believe, will damage your ship once and a while. Mining in a gas cloud, too.
We've got wormholes, now. Some missions will have things like a deadly radioactive cloud, or whatnot. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for.
On the other hand, some of your ideas have merit. I like the chasing a comet as you mine it idea. Mostly CCP instead of trying to emulate the actual space out there, really just wants to make the game and balance it how they want it. They then take space things (like wormholes) and incorporate it into the game as a means to that objective.

Oh, man. I guess it's no use telling you what speed an average warp drive brings your ship to, or even talk about jump drives, or stargates, or permanent space habitats, or asteroid mining, or protective energy shields, or railguns, or energy weapons, or plasma blasters, or human cloning, or FTL comms, or spaceships beyond shuttles, or the fact that space in the EVE universe has the consistency of motor oil. -----

actually I like the idea. I have seen comets in space in the game, but you can't mine them even though in real life they are filled with rich minerals. I have seen them in dead space.

So they can build a super massive gate to be powered by the black hole to bring in massive armies to Eve to bring righteous punishment to the unbelievers. Join channel: "Eve University" or read here |

Seems to me one of the Eve articles said jump gates required binary star systems, so does this mean a binary black hole system would be needed for a super massive gate? Binary black holes would be kinda cool, especially if they had a stable orbit and didn't consume each other.

I wouldn't say its Science Fiction. Black Holes themselves were thought to be purely theoretical until the first one was found in 1971. Black Holes were theorized by Einstein in the early 1900's, so it may just be a matter (excuse the pun) of time before we discover signs to suggest Wormholes exist.
From the NASA website:
"Perhaps the first object to be generally recognized as a black hole is the X-ray binary star Cygnus X-1. Its effect on its companion star suggested as early as 1971 that it must be a compact object with a mass too high for it to be a neutron star. (That was 2 years after the American astronomer John Wheeler coined the term 'black hole')."
EDIT - Damn, didn't see Jarna post that up there

My corps wormhole system has a Wolf-Rayet Star that has some radiation effects on shields, armour and scanners. So it does happen. In Kspace they've just setteled non-dangerous systems - there would be no point in building jumpgates next to a black hole.
and the asteroids are super ritch - and the view is pretty!

Wormholes do not occur naturally. Just like white holes don't exist naturally, although predicted by relativity as well. Theoretical physics does have its limits when it comes to "reality." Just because it looks good on paper doesn't mean it will do the same in the universe we live in. ___________________________________________________ Idea: Train 3 alts at the same time solution. |

I laughed....
I have cybernetic implants, have warpdrive and you fall over the fact that wormholes are science fiction ?
To make the entire game less 'science fiction' we should all get together and sit in a nice 3D model of the ISS orbiting earth, which shouldnt be too big a difference for alot of people's current activities anyways
Just take the game as it is, go inside a wormhole and see the marvelous wonders you asked for... except the astroids... My manticore could simulate that for you with a nice bomb, but that means you got hit by an 'astroid'.
Have fun :)
