Has anybody experienced an issue with assets just vanishing if there are any sort of connection issues when the trade window is open with assets in it?
I had been collecting assets around sinq with a charon for a week. I had them centralized and a charactor from both accounts logged in within the same station. I opened to direct trade to myself and placed assets in it.
Then the connection died where the wallet shows a zero balance and you cant use any menus.
So i relogged on both accounts and the assets are no longer present on either charactor. I've filed a petition but i wanted to know if anybody has experienced this before or would know where they may have possibly ended up. If it wasnt really anything valuable i wouldnt have filed but its billions of units of various minerals in question among the lost in addition to battleships and many bpo/bpcs...

Edited by: The AEther on 23/09/2009 08:18:24 Yes, about a year and a half ago a player I knew was trading a faction fitted Navy Vexor worth 700 mil to his alt both docked in Jita 4-4. During the trade his connection died and accounts went offline. The faction fitted Navy Vex that was in the trade window vanished after this. He petitioned to CCP and they replied that they had insufficient evidence to confirm that this bug exists and did not replace it.

I sure hope this isnt the outcome for me seeing as pretty much all the work i had done in eve for the past 2 years was in that transaction. Not getting this replaced pretty much wipes my net worth and my ability to continue playing. Id say if i was mad and i was going to quit you guys can have my stuff but.......... oh wait i have no stuff. The sky was blue but there was no god. |

May I make a reasonable suggestion? Don't do that. Just keep the ships as there may come a point where you want to try EVE again, and it would make things a little easier for you if you still had them. ------------------------------------------------

Until they fix it/vanish back in your hands: I advise you to Direct-trade them in SECTIONS.
SECTIONS: Parts, pieces, not the whole bunch at once.
Instead of 1 billion tritanium, you trade 50-100 tritanium per trade. _____________

Yea as soon as it happened i thought "i totally should have just made the private contract."
But that doesn't change the fact that its crazy that i lost everything simply because I had a disconnect while trading to myself.
Both chars happened to be in the same place and i thought "what the hell...ill just hand it to myself." apparently the gods willed otherwise. The sky was blue but there was no god. |

i had it one time with my alt in the same station, on the same pc. Items were accepted on both chars and got kicked off eve.
Items were vanished... Petitioned and they said it would respawn after the next dt. And it did :)

Kind of similar thing happened to me and a corp mate a long time ago but without the disconnect, the items did not appear after downtime but a petition did return our items 2 or 3 days later.

I've had this happen several times, the odd thing is the items always eventually turn back up, normally after downtime though no always.
I recently had a contract one of my corp mates sent to me vanish, I accepted it but the items never appeared, the items where any place there was no record of the contract even existing any more. He petitioned CCP and got the usual no evidence blah blah blah.
I know the guy hadn't stole the stuff hes one of my best friends IRL, and I work with him, plus I have his full API, and Im certain I clicked accept. On the contract, the items were worth less than a bil so I just thought oh well no big loss. Then about 3 months later suddenly the items appeared in my assets list. I keep my asset clear and clean. All my items are in a couple of station's so when these items popped up in a station I cleared out months ago it was a surprise. A pleasant one but it still sucks that it happened at all.

What CCP fails to realize is that, "It will come back at DT" is not acceptable. This is a bug and it needs to be fixed regardless if the items come back. But, CCP is content disregarding it because the items come back. This is what I mean by CCP is lazy.

Happened to me once a few months ago when I was transferring 18 pieces of mission-only ice when the clients died. When I relogged the ice was gone, and the mission unfinishable. So I swore a lot and failed it. Then some time later (after the next DT I think) those 18 pieces of ice reappeared. So I swore a lot more.

Some database (maintenance) routines require exclusive access to the tables they use. The only way to give them that is to disconnect all users aka daily downtime. Stuff in limbo from expired sell orders and contracts and apparently, failed trades, is handled by said routines. You can cry it's unacceptable all you want, it doesn't change the technology.

The way to solve this is to NOT remove them from the user's asset list till AFTER the trade is completed. The trade window should only hold a reference to the items in question, no the actual items themselves.
In this way, the items are not lost due to system crashes. All that would happen is the trade window REFERENCES to the items would disappear, but the items themselves would still be in the user's asset list.
That was simple. And that is totally doable. There is nothing with the "technology" that would stop that from being programmed in.

Dual references: duping bug/exploit.

Could someone try this with an alt or a friend and with cheap items if this bug can be reproduced?
