Ever wish there was a way to tell people you were AFK? Kinda like the "Away" and "Busy" on most messenger clients?
Well, I got bored during downtime and came up with this. I think its a good idea :S
What do you guys think? :D

Would be useful when you have ppl trying to hail you in a chat channel, I'd go for this, it's a simple visual cue.
What you could also add, which I've sometimes thought would be good is to when you're trying to attract someone's attention, if you know they're AFK, you can select another option to let them know that you need them when they get back to the kb, perhaps it simply makes your channel list entry glow so they notice it when they return, perhaps with a similar short rollover message.

I like the idea. makes things easy for us crazy directors trying to get **** together. You could even put a timer or something on it.. so like, if you don't do anything/type for x amount of time, it puts you in an "away" status, or somesuch.

I think the idea is just to use mainly in chat channels, so you could set it per channel or have a global one for anyone in any channel, or as you suggested, just for certain subsets, but I think the per channel will get used primarily, some channels won't warrant any kind of notification of your status.
This would mainly be for things like corp and fleet channels along with private channels you have for friends.

It is indeed a good idea! But it could be a little exploitable by pirates, for example. Like having a gatecamp and having everyone in your fleet to select the AFK button and display it in Local :) Or maybe it could not work in local and just in other chats :) But anyways, awesome idea.

Despite the fact that you and my alt are gonna be at war in about 6hrs Virus i'll also sign it.
Allaince, corp, Private, fleet chats only. I also think there should be a way to sort out address book as i don't everyone to know when i sign in!

I remember seeing this idea somewhere else but even then its a good idea to have a status or flag for the personal/corp/alliance channels really hope CCP does something along these lines

Yep, I wish. And while wishing, wouldn't it be cool if there was a messenger client without running EVE, to keep in contact while working or doing something else that keeps you not logged into EVE?
