The artillery changes are good, as is the fact that you're looking at damage types and range.
Everyone knows a geddon with scorch does 850 dps at 45km while having a pretty beefy armor buffer tank. 10% more damage on phased plasma and 9% on EMP doesn't mean anything against that ship. Give me something that either nerfs that or gives minmatar to do something that can counter this, and I'll jump on board whole-heartedly.
We need a general rebalancing of all turrets, not just projectile weapons. These changes you propose, while good, will not come remotely close to giving minmatar the loving it really needs to be viable.

Edited by: isdisco3 on 24/09/2009 04:04:23 There was a good 10-15 page thread on how to rebalance weapons systems a while back, right before nozh stopped posting because everything he posted was trolled and ridiculed because the ideas were almost completely terrible. The thread seems to have been ignored, but there were many many fantastic ideas in it.
Honestly this is just like the 'fix ecm drones' thing. Even if you did manage to fix it its not going to be enough. What we need is a overhauling of all weapons systems, especially all turrets.

The issue isn't ammunition. The issue is weapon balancing at large. Minmatar and gallente are far less viable than Amarr today because of damage vs range.
Also, now taking bets on the next time Nozh will post. 4 months again? longer?

Edited by: isdisco3 on 28/09/2009 16:37:34 As a testament to how borked things are (and how much time I have on my hands), I submit to you a damage graph of all primarily-turret-based battleships (ignoring the dominix and phoon). All ships are fit with largest short-range weapon and nothing else, using lvl 5 skills (except the tempest, which got 2 siege launchers). Drones are ignored, as is tracking.

Each tick is 2.5km.
Things to note: a. scorch is hugely overpowered, on all 3 amarr ships. this can be fixed by nerfing scorch or by buffing all other race's ammunition. b. the difference between mael and tempest is extremely marginal over both ranges. Ship bonuses should be changed to make them be more different, imo. c. mid-range minmatar actually looks pretty decent with barrage, they'd be quite nice if it weren't for scorch.

The changes posted on this page help artillery a lot and make them be most viable. But autocannons are still going to be bad, they need more attention.

AC's still need a lot of loving nozh, far more than what has happened so far.
