A question to Windows 7 users, what is the minimum version required to run Eve? Does eve take advantage of (I think) DirectX 11? Is the upgrade worth while for someone still on XP and in a student financial situation or can you still be on XP and not really notice anything? On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

There are still WinXP users not on SP2? What is wrong with you people? Maybe 0.4% of the EVE user base but probably far more virus-ridden than the rest.
Also, does "other" include anything besides us Wine users, or is it just "stuff we didn't feel like breaking out"? -- EVE Blog EVE Twitter |

Jacob mei: I'm running windows 7 RC1 which is free until late 2010 (august i think) and while EVE doesn't take advantage of directX 11, the OS really quite nice. It's what vista should have been, imho.

The new browser is the most likely cause for SiSi not supporting Mac at present. Chrome doesn't run on MacOS and since the new browser basically is Chrome, a bit of work is needed to get it to cooperate. But I assume that'll be fixed by the time dominion comes out.
Yea, I'm SURE that's gonna happen. The more likely scenario is that Mac gets the old IGB, and will the the new one Soon.

I currently only updated to service pack 1 on a computer I use occasionly when I'm away, and I really am only on for skill changing with it.
We are going to softload the required library so the client should work but the browser will not work.

Chrome is Webkit-based, and Webkit is originally developed for Mac OS X (after branching out from the Linux Konqueror browser). So I donĘt think it will be too much trouble to port the Chrome-specific code back to Mac OS X, if that has not already mostly been done by Google & co. Also consider that that it could very well be that most of the Windows-specific code is in the UI, and as EVE will have their own custom UI anyway, that would then not need to be portedą
Why they picked Chromium and not just Webkit in the first place, I do not know :).

It all depends on how Wine identifies itself. What is returned when the Python function os.sys.getwindowsversion() and the Windows function GetVersionEx(...) are called from within Wine?

Depending on where you live, vendors are required to offer hardware without any version of Windows at a discount (though they almost never advertise this fact). You can go that route and then just install Windows 7, which is quite nice.

It identifies as the windows-version selected in wineconf. That won't change since most programs just refuse to work if the ID is not Windows.
A rather sure way would be to read the registry for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine
this key doesn't exist else.

Heh.
Release Candidate, perfectly legal. Downloads/keys no longer available now. It will expire June 1st 2010, though it will start shutting down every 2 hours March 1st, 2010.
To the DX11 questions: try buying a videocard which supports it. When you realize they're not on the market yet, start asking DX10.1 questions. In addition, both ATI and nVidia initial lineups for a new DX version tended to be underachievers and bad value for money. Shop smart.

Originally by: Cadde Also, i can't help but think this dev blog is just CCP helping Micro$oft advertise Windows 7. The thing that bothers me about Win 7 is that they are trying to sell you an empty shell and then push "addons" on you that cost extra $$$.
Vista was labelled to bloated, Windows 7 is an empty shell... going to have to petition you for a name change to Goldilocks. It's not advertising, it's informing current and future windows 7 users, who have posted this question many times.
Originally by: Cadde EDIT: Just wait until Lunix* start going mainsteam because more and more people get fed up with the MS BS. Will CCP support Lunix* once again when that happens? It's just a matter of time me thinks...
LUnix is a Commodore 64 unix based OS, CCP has never supported it and never will. Renewed support for linux? Not as long WINE does the job.

Will this affect people using low end integrated graphics (which are enough for skills, market, science & industry, not actually fighting) such as those in the asus eeepc (intel GMA 950)? Will it still work properly? -- Fanfest memories : I looked in your eyes And I found the galaxy Now I'm stuck in eve.

DX9 is quite capable. The major differences between DX9 and DX10/11 isn't what you can do, but how you do it, and how fast.
Just because something supports DX10 doesn't mean it has to look better than a DX9 version.

Yes, but that leaves the "tiny" problem of calling OSX-native code from within a windows executable translated through cider/wine.
