Originally by: Respute I used to moan at the Zealots in our HAC gangs that loved to fit them double Sensor Boosters for more killmails.
I've now learned to love them after watching bomber after bomber after bomber get insta f*#ked by these fast locking alpha machines
Interesting. I prefer watching gank fit, sensor boosted zealots die to 2 bombs. Especially pleasing in that those sensor boosters don't help the zealot a bit in the split second between bomb release and entering warp.
Must be hitting zealots dumb enough to run their MWD... Bombs don't seem to hit HACs very hard with MWD's off. In my Rifter running the MWD is the difference between insta die and a scratch.

A full wave of bombs can deal over 50k of damage, with MWD off, that translates to 12.5k of EM damage, this will still kill a zealot, even if LSEd.

It would be great if the proliferation of stealth bombers lead to a real role for destroyers.
It won't, of course. But it would be pretty great.

Depends on what you call a full wave of bombs...
Ive yet to experience a bombing from an entire fleet of SB. How many bombs does it take to pop a non MWD HAC?

How about if we upped the Arty Thrasher's alpha by 50%?

They do 6400 raw damage and have an explosion radius of 400m. Without an MWD, chances are that your speed won't be high enough to matter (bombs have an explosion velocity of 750m/s). Your average HAC has a sig radius of 120–150 (unless you shield tank it).
So you're looking at somewhere between 1920–2400 damage per bomb. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Actually they do more than that. With max skills they do 8000 raw damage. If you have a heavily tanked ship that have a small sig radius however it is not uncommon to se real damages in the 300 range.
A frig without MWD will survive 1-4 bomb blasts. A frig with a MWD active and in range of the bomb will go poof.
Same goes for cruisers.
The only thing I have really seen destroyed by bomb blasts every time is in fact destroyers and interdictors.
One bomber on its own may as well just unload the bombs since the chance of him/her killing anything in a bomb blast is less than slim. Only time you manage to kill smaller ships is if they panic and hit the MWD. If they would just take a chill pill they would get damaged but survive. Larger ships simply have to much effective hitpoints to be affected by a single bomb. It is a totally diffrent matter if you get a bunch of bombs away at approximatly the same time.
In one engagement we pretty much massacered a hotdrop with 8 well placed bombs. We got 54 instant kills and the rest of the fleet was either in hull or in deep armor. The accompanying support fleet massacered the rest of them. The hot droppers did not have a good day that day

Note that HACs often have high resists. Eg: Shrapnel (Explosive) bombs do about 3-400 damage to my Zealot (less than 50% shield damage) Kinetics do a bit over 50%. Thermals will wipe out my shield though, and the EM ones will do a little bit of armour damage.
