I been doing lvl 3 missions in my Tempest. I tried the famous 800mm repeating 'Artillery.' But while their tracking is 0.036, versus medium gun size targets their effective tracking is 0.01125. That is worse than the tracking of the 720mm Howitzers which have 0.022. So I been using the 720mm and they are working quite well. (with tracking enhancer and tracking computer on)
But now I reached good standing with my agent, 4.5, and got my first Mordus mission. Those cruisers are a bit bigger on average and I am wondering if I can up my guns a bit? So I'm considering the smallest large gun, the Dual 425mm Autocannon. This gun has medium equivalent tracking of 0.014, slightly better than the 800s. But its still a big gun which is going to have more trouble with the cruiser and especially frigate targets.
Any advice or experience here? Should I switch, and carry medium drones to deal with the frigates? Im concerned cause i just lost a batch of heavies in the mordus mission...
Tips appreciated. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

Treat 800mm artillery and 425mm autocannons as you would treat blasters - i.e. don't use them unless you're using them in conjunction with a webber or two. You'll hit dandy.

Edited by: Imhotep Khem on 25/10/2004 02:41:17 Thats the thing, I am using a webber. But usually I web them, then mwd out to 10-15k and finish em off from there. I can't keep em from getting in too close, and the mwd drains too much juice to keep using. But when i have the chance like on the bigger rats, i like to keep my distance, 20-30k with the 720s.
I guess thats the issue. While im keepign away from the big rats, the little ones come up close and put some hurtin on me. Then when the big ones are gone, I start webbin and fightin off the little ones which are all under 7k at the time. I suppose Im lookin for a way to up the damage on the big guys, and still fend off the small guys faster.
720s are performign beautifully. I'm just wondering if their isint a better choice for a BS than a cruiser gun Perhaps a 775? I'm wanting the Tempest's bonus to take effect as well which it does not on the mediums. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

ugh
just use 4x 650mm(with emp i hit from ~6km-25km) 4x heavy missile launchers and 6xheavy drones (in mordus put 800mm to kill cruisers other then cheetahs) med - with 100mn mwd tracking comp 3x capr recharger low - larg armor rep medium armor rep (t2 or named) then 3x hardeners(i just put expl\thermal\kinetic because im lazy i get both serpentis and blood) then a cap relay
tanking lvl3 missions is very easy(put medium repairer on auto large in bursts..) and just use heavy drones and heavy missiles to kill frigs i got 3.6\7 mill sp and 1.6 mill in learning skills lvl3 missions are easy... I sometimes use a Tempest in my Amarr level 3 missions just for the heck of it, helps freak out the Amarrian mission runners coming and going out from the station, some of whom are even from the CVA.
I use 6 1400s and two launchers. I also have a Typhoon setup similarly, with 4 1400s and four launchers.
Same tactics I use in both ships. Warp in at 60km, and start sniping away, maintaining your distance with MWD. Sometimes takes out npc frigs in one shot. Just remember your 1400s will hit efficiently above 40km. Below that and it starts suffering.
Then you MWD back to pick up the loot.
You can play it short range too if you want to use dual 425s and dual 650s.
Missiles and drones are used on NPCs that get too close for the 1400s.
Not recommended for Blockade and Mordu missions however. You're better off just using Megapulse, Dual Heavy Pulse, Heavy or Focused Pulses.

hi - 6 800mm's, 2 sieges
med - 1 web, 4 cap rechargers, (ii's if you can)
low - 1 large arm rep (named preferably), 1 t2 med arm rep (or named), 3 hardeners (depend on rat types), 1 cap relay
6 heavy drones
switch on all the lows, warp in at 15km, wait until they all started shooting at ya. unleash your drones, go and get and cup of coffee or watch a bit tv. come back, rats are all dead. easy. not even the mordus' would give you much trouble. or if you fancy a bit of action yourself, use the webber on cruisers, keep range around 7-10km, and kill them real fast with 6 800mm's. i wouldn't waste my ammo on frigs though, let the drones deal with them.

An interesting question as I got my first Tempest yesterday and was trying loadouts.
My skills aren't the best and I am hoping to grow into the ship. After following the advice in other threads I fitted a set of 800mm I found in the corp hanger and a webber and I had a fair amount of success in level 3 missions but I found I went through a huge amount of ammo.
I then changed to 6 heavy pluse lasers (cruiser sized weapons) and these also ripped through the rats with little difficulty. ATM I am using milti-frequency but I see the need to take a couple of others types for longer range.
The current loadout is :- 6 heavy pluse lasers (3 named) 3 heavy missile launchers (no skill for seige) 1 named AB 1 webber 1 targeting computer 2 cap rechargers 2 armour rep 3 hardeners (Thm, Ex and Ki) 1 tracking enhancer
I will be playing around again tonight once I have got rid of that courier mission my agent saw fit to offer me yesterday

I was going to sugest 720mm but i see that you allready have used them. Having a avg hit rate of 100 damage with good bonuses on the tempest, its a great gun for lvl 3 missions. ----------------------

Yep Typhoons are very nice indeed for lvl 3 agent missions... that 3500m3 drone bay helps a lot for frigates, and even cruisers. Prevents you from wasting ammo
1. Warp in 2. Wait until you are being targeted. 3. Use heavy nosferatus (even on frigates!, they have infinite cap anyway) 4. Start tanking 5. Unleash drones 6. Quietly watch the fireworks while enjoying a cup of Quafe Ultra.
Then again, if you want to use drones, go for a Dominix

That`s wrong... they don`t have infinite cap for you to drain anymore
You can check how much cap they have in eve-i.

I'm using 1 large armor repairer. Dont know why folks use a medium when the large is more efficient? I use it till my cap is gone anyway.
720mm work well but indeed do not get the ship bonus. Plus I been warpin in at 30km cause thats the range of the 720mm. Considering falloff the 800mm probably do same damage as 720s before considering tracking is weaker.
Yes, lvl 3 are a breeze, except mordus. I should have stated for missions starting at 4.5 and up cause that is where i started getting mordus.
I had not considered 4 guns and 4 heavy launchers. I been using cruise launchers, but I did wonder if that was overkill and wasteful for the size ships I fight now and the new missile damage logic!? (note: I bailed out of the 4 guns 2 launchers on my Ruppy for 1/2 and 1/2)
I'll give 4x1400s a shot warping in at 60km. Hope it works because those things are expensive from what I seen. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

just use my setup has worked for a very long time...
you can have the medium one on auto and use the large one in burst.... cruise missiles = overkill and a waste in lvl3 missions. just use heavy missiles cost ~100-200 each(While cruise cost more than 2k each) at most(i got 3.5k of widowmakers in hangar ) and 650mm have got tracking at low range and with the tracking comp it is even better - i always warp in at 15km kill one npc and begin picking up loot while i kill the rest Fluffy carebear (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. Use medium pulses (yes the frig weapon) a web and mwd...
A maller can eat through a mordus mission without warping out using 5 of em, a tempest with 6 and better tankability (large armor rep and more lows for harderners) will work even better. Just use microwave (the yellow ones) for frigates (optimal of around 12km) and use multifreq (the white ones) and a web for the cruisers (optimal of 5km, so if you want to stay in range you have to web em). -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs
