Can they be solo'd? What combined tank + gank do you need? Does it have to be a marauder or can it be done in a CNR/Drake/Tengu?

They can be soloed, but it's somewhat long winded process. It would be considerably easier if you can dualaccount. Solo ships for L5 need to be sort of capacitor free - fore example passive tanked nighthawk with fury missiles. If you are not solo then it's still good idea to keep main tank as more or less passive ofc bcos of heavy neuting.

If you can fly one I believe Carriers can do Level V missions like a hot knife through butter

The real trick is avoiding the mad rush of rabid pirates when they realize there's a solo carrier in the system, doing missions.

You can solo L5 missions in a ship that has a very strong passive tank (1500+ DPS tank), and can still dish out significant damage. A solo Golem or CNR will die very fast because they suck at passive tanking, and the mission neut towers will disable their active tanks in about 2 seconds. As others said, it's best to dual-box these missions - one strong passive tank, and a DPS damage dealer.

Yes thay can. All gallente, serpentis, guristas, angel cartel i've done in Nighthawk. Also 1/3 rogue drones. All the others with osprey 3x shield transfer. Good luck!

I think people need to understand the meaning of solo. 
pro-tip: A fleet of alt accounts isn't solo.
