Edited by: Orexis Kirhal on 28/09/2009 16:37:11 I would like to see a change in the weapon types for the stealth bomber weapon types. I understand that missiles are why it's called a "bomber", but when a char has spent all his time training turret specializations, the appeal of flying a bomber ship which requires missiles is... not really worth the investment. I'd love to experiment with stealth "bombers", but it's simply not worth the time to actually make it effective training all the missile skills.
My suggestion is that a new type of weapon is made, using turret skills, to be used for stealth "bombers".
Projectiles: Mortar Cannon
Hybrids: Ion Particle cannon.
Lasers: Crystal Overload Cannon Uses a new type of frequency crystal as ammunition. Would be smaller to allow storage of many in the cargo bay like other ammunitions because the crystal is "overloaded" and destroyed to produce the large laser blast.
All of these new turrets would be based on turret skills, but have the same kind of dps as missiles do for bombers now.
Yes, this was a 2 minute idea thrown into a post, but what does everyone else think? Balancing issues? simply not worth the hassle of changing everything as it is?

stealth bombers are fine as they are - well could do with a small increase in hp cos they are a bit too papar thin

You will get a little help in the next expansion. They are reducing the skill requirements to use bombs (missile bombardment 5 is no longer a pre-req. It is going to be 3 or 4). You still have to use torps as secondary weapon, but honestly that isn't THAT much extra training to be half way decent with them.

I kind of agree, but at the same time I dont. I'd almost say create a separate type of item that is specifically a bomb, something similar in appearence to the new fighter bombers weapons, this new weapon system would be independent from missile skills and turret skills. It would operate along similar lines as a missile, but you it would not be bonused or penalized for not having the missile skills at max. This would also open the door to other bomb lobbing ships. __________________________________________________ I was Amarr before they were the FOTM and I'll be Amarr after it! IMO would rather see them be able to fit XL weapons. __________________________________________________

I've been thinking this myself, but there is one issue:
Missiles have flight time = time it takes before the damage is actually applied to the target. Turrets don't. Unless you somehow implement a flight time for these "alternative" bomber weapons, or reduce their damage, they would be overpowered.
Aside from that, I totally agree. I'm Caldari, and I never trained for missiles. I have 500k sp in missiles, and I started out with most of those. However, I have more than 9m sp in gunnery. I have no desire what so ever to train for missiles, but I would love to be able to field a good SB. Atm, there is no reason for me to train for them, as I would have to train several months before my missiles would be anywhere near as good as my gunnery skills.

i think its good that people need to train missile skills in order to be effective caldari people needs to train gunnery skills in order to pilot harpy, moa, eagle, rokh trained 3.6m sp on gunnery so i could use harpy effectivly, yeah that means pretty mych allmost all 5 gunnery skills for it. but the stealth bomber gets 15% dmg bonus per covop skill lvl so the you dont really even need to max out missile skills for it. tho i got specop5 and allmost all 5 on missile skills to, it really recommended for the sb.

Considering the weight of the charges, and the velocity they are shot at, I would think the end result would be your bomber flying backwards at nearly the same velocity as the charge going forwards, which would reduce the charge's effectivness by about half.
Also, aren't the XL turrets a few times bigger than a frigate sized ship?
Kind of like mounting a 16-inch gun on a PT Boat. Or a 5-inch gun on a row boat.

Have you seen the mutant fish around heavily polluted areas?!??! You need all the fire power you can get! Fishing is an extreme sport!
The torpedo bomber is performing splendidly as proven time and time again. It has focus and purpose. Sure it takes some skill to fly and is best with support of its own for tackle/ewar but when it comes to breaking stuff nothing does it better
I just wish the time to train t2 siege wasn't so damn long but I want my 90km range!!

You used to be able to undock with capital guns fitted to frigs offline, I know. Pen-gun to a goldfish. Maybe a 10x damage bonus but a VERY severe tracking bonus to large weapons? __________________________________________________

while we are at this can we have several missile hardpoints add to all gunships? You know, because of the people that are too lazy to train gunnery.

Hey look, you just solved your own proble. Don't wanna train for it, don't fly it.
I've 8 mil+ sp in gunnery. I can and do fly a stealth bomber as well. Guess it depends on what your training priorities are.
