Edited by: Amateratsu on 30/09/2009 04:25:20 Hey Chribba
I Absolutely love the site, Especially seeing myself sitting on the podium in the overall rankings.
Couple small issues, The subscription expired on 1 of my alt accounts and now i cannot access 1 of the characters on that account.
Theres a red bar saying "automactic api update disabled..." my alt Londo Mallari no longer appears in the list of characters when i login to the account and there appears to be no way for me to re-enable the api for that char.
The level for the 3 unique skills (salvage drone op,mobile factory op,mobile refinery op) is still not being displayed/counted in the by level ranks).
This is probably due to the data returned by the api not specifying the level due to the skills being unpublised. So the level will need to be calculated based on actual sp trained in the skill.
Thanks.

What's the criteria for the global ranking? Afaics a few (or many) more skilled pilots have joined and should be listed instead of little me.
I'm gonna take a guess that its some kind of calculation on the sum of your positions in all of the ranking catagory's.
So a high sp char whos specialised in 1 or 2 fields may rank high in 1 or 2 catagory's but lower in most the others.
Whereas a jack of all trades who has spread his sp out across more fields may rank better in more catagory's and therefore get a better overall rank.
Which is good as even a relatively low sp character can achieve a ranking position, and is not competing against unbeatable veterans

One could argue that scoring high in a certain category while having few SP is more of an achievement than scoring high while having many SP. So perhaps sorting by the "attribute" and then by least SP would be more fair?
I don't think thats any fairer as once a player pases a certain level of sp he will be effectively locked out of the top rankings as lower sp players will always get priority.
Whats needed is an attribute that does not have an upper or lower limit, an attribute that can always be beaten by any player who puts in the effort/training time.
what that attribute should be is a very difficult problem to solve.
as it stands atm, the ranks will eventually be dominated by high sp veterans who have maxed out their training in certain ranks.

Lets say for example we have 10 players who have maxed out the drones catagory, the sp of those 10 players ranges between 30 and 40 million sp
Any other players who have also maxed out drones but have more than 40m sp will be locked out of the top 10 for that catagory.
Only lower sp players can enter the top rankings, and then only untill they pass the upper sp threshold at which point they will be locked out.
Whats needed is a method of sorting that can always be beaten by any player who puts in the time and effort, weather they are a high sp veteran or a low sp noob.

Agreed its better than the current system as younger players will always have the oppotunity to reach a top ranking position.
Not so good for the older players who will gradually be pushed further and further down the rankings and will not be able to do anything about it.
I leave it upto Chribba to decide what he thinks is best á

I can't see Tripoly Threatening your position any time soon as his training has revolved around obtaining all skills ingame and thus his raking in most of the catagorys is quite low.
It will more likely be someone new signing up to eveboard like IFly UWalk who appeared out of nowhere to knock me of my #3 spot.
Its surprising how much dropping just a couple ranks can effect your global position.
Still all good fun:)

Bug Report:-
There appears to be a mismatch between the global rank "total skillpoints" and pilot ranks for same catagory.
eg if i look at the fulllist for total skillpoints im shown at position 72, but in my sheet/pilot ranks it shows me at position 79.
The bug appears to effect all chars listed starting at position 11 and the diffeence between the 2 ranks increases by 1 pt every 10 positions.
eg char at position 11 is shown at position 12 in his sheet, char at position 20 is shown at 22 in his sheet and so on.
otherwise all good

Interesting, since i've spent my fair share of time living in 0.0 and killed manny faction spawns, so should my sec status not be higher than 5.00? altho i've never encounterd any officer spawns
I have to say i'm not liking these mutually exclusive/opposing ranks as getting to the top of 1 means being placed at or near the bottom of the other.
Thats not so bad at the moment, but when the #n of players registered on eb reaches into the 1000s or even 10,000s, thats gonna be a whopping heavy anchor dragging down your global average.

If i'm not mistaken, it was due to a change in the penalty for a no data rank being reduced from a flat 1000pts to the #n active pilots in the db resulting in a boost for some and a nerf for others.
I went from #15 back upto #6 while the #2 and #3 entries changed twice in the space of a few minutes
Plus Chribs fixed a sorting error in some of the ranks which may also have boosted some pilots

Originally by: Tripoli I have to say I think I agree with Drahcir. I think we should reconsider how this is calculated. I'd suggest having it only average out the rankings that are top positions.
The way the average score is calculated currently, take your rank in each catagory, add them together and then devide by the #n catagorys.
If you have 1 or more no data scores it uses the #n of pilots in the eb database as the score for those catagorys.
Doing it this way means that ALL pilots have a chance to achive a top ranking position.
If we change it to the way you suggest the ranks will end up being dominated by high sp veteran players that noone else can catch, let alone pass as long as they continue to play.
if you want a better global ranking, you need to put your training into the catagorys where you have a low score like Ravenal and others have done
I believe this is the fairest method for all pilots.
Edit: the penalty for a no data score is to prevent pilots who have a large #n of no data catagorys from getting a high average ranking... You would not want a brand new player who has not put in any training reaching the top 10 or better would you?

Where 2 or more pilots have an equal score in 1 or more rankings, the ranking is sorted by global rank.
Tripoly and Ravenal rank higher than you there because they have a higher global position, however that does not mean you cannot pass them and take the #1 spot.
The global ranking is not just effected by what you are training but by all players registered on eb.
For example if another player signs up to eb who has higher sp in say trade than you do then he will push you down 1 ranking position, which then reduces your global score by 1 point.
It takes a while for eb to calculate your rank against all other pilots new and old in the eb db which is why you've gradually moved up to #35 place.
Now you have to focus your training in the areas where you rank low to improve your score and move further up the ranks.
Ravenal and other high ranking players are not locked in their positions because they signed up earlier. they can be beaten and knocked down by any player, including yourself

Edited by: Amateratsu on 18/10/2009 14:29:30 I believe the current method of calclulating rank is as fair as you can get as it allows all players to work for a better rank and all players can be passed regardless of their sp or age.
Unlike what we had with InEve where once you reached the top you were un-passable
I can see where Drahcir is right in 1 respect in that he is getting penalised for not having any skills trained in levels 0 - 3 which as viggen pointed out would end up giving you a low rank if you had every skill trained to level 5.
Same with opposing ranks like high skillqueue vs longest skill/security status, getting a high score in 1 means you get penalised in the other.
So perhaps whats needed is a better way of dealing with "no data" ranks that keeps new untrained characters from jumping straight in at the top while not penalising older players who have trained past those levels.
Will see if i can think of any better suggestions

Ok i have a suggesting for fixing the "no data" catagorys. Rather than using the #n of pilots in the db i was thinking changing it to your actual global ranking position.
IE if you are ranked #35 each no data catagory gets a default value of 35. This would still keep low ranking/untrained pilots with multiple no data catagorys from jumping straight in at the top of the rankings while reducing the penalty for more advanced pilots who have trained past those levels or choose to hide 1 or more of their stats.
I thought of using global average score but that changes too rapidly whereas position is a more stable value that requires effort to improve.
I would also suggest excluding the "Skillqueue/Longest Skill/Security Status" Ranks from the global scoring as those catagorys are mutually exclusive and you can't improve 1 without penalising the other.
What do you guys think? good... bad... idea á

Thats the 1 drawback that occured to me when i was thinking more about it at work....
Its a tricky point in that we don't want to penalise players who choose to hide certain stats, then again we don't want them hiding their stats just to boost their rank...
Maybe give hidden ranks a penalty of say 300 - 500 pts? not as large as the previous penalty of 1000pts/#n pilots in db, but enougth to deter abuse?
Otherwise it looks good, dispite getting myself smacked down from #7 to #35
But then i knew that would happen as i had 0 "no data" catagory's and the battle is not over yet, i will climb back up and have my revenge

I don't think we will ever see any players getting ALL skills to level 5 (it will take at least another 10+ years to reach that point).
Assuming Eve is still alive and kicking 10 years from now there will probably be several 100 more skills added to the game by then, so that is not the issue.
The issue is as Drahcir pointed out, that he was being penalised for not have any skills in those levels.
So either we need to remove those ranks from the board or find a way to compormise which is fair for everyone.
If we close the loophole that allows players to boost their rank by hiding their stats then we will have that compormise.
Sooner or later we are all gonna have to train our skills up to higher levels, and i don't think we should be penalised for doing so...

Your currently on 382 out 390 skills, your going to reach a point where you have no other skills availlable other than the level 0 - 3's.
You gonna stop training at that point and wait for more skills to be added to the game? or train up those lower level skills?
On another note, a link to the full catagory list from your pilot ranks would be very usefull

It appears we have a rogue Character that has slipped through the net and risen to the #1 spot of the global ranking dispite being only 4 months old.
This should not have happened as a character that young should be ranked near bottom and be recieving a much larger value in the characters "no data" catagory's.
I believe a dynamic value that decreases as you progress up the ranks is the way to go, but perhaps using rank position is the wrong attribute to use as it is a self boosting value in that as you move up the ranks the value decreases boosting you further up the ranks, decreasing the value fruther and so on....
Thats possibly how this 4 month char has risen to the top. curious that the char is anonymous too.
I'll leave it up to Chribba to decide if he wants to end the test and revert back to the previous value for "no data" ranks.
Will try to redeem myself and think of a better way.

Originally by: Chribba Actually hiding your info shouldn't matter or not, the problem however is that the global rank is computed at the time when you refresh your own ranks, thus making the sheet private - only you can recalculate the ranks.
There however is a bug with new characters as you saw, it ended up at #1 since its ranks where never calculated, once I refreshed it down the ranks went.
I'm still trying to locate the source of that error.
Kewl, i did wonder as even with the self boosting effect the char should not have risen straight to #1.
So hopefully its just a matter of ironing out the bugs and we'll have a working system

Originally by: Chribba As for the +/- on standings, I could throw in a penalty on either side as that might give a better overall value than using the current ranks (since there tend to be more + than - for example (but I think this change would be very nominal either way).
Also what could be made from the standings, is to calculate a value based on the actual standing as well Eg having higher dosperado would get calculated like (Rank*10)/9.00, thus his points added for that category would be like 1*10/9 => 1.11 points, as per some other random guy who has maybe like 2.12 standing (358*10)/2.12 (if his rank was 358) = 1688.68 points would be added to his score. Or anything in those lines?
Are you refering to the security status ranks here? If so i'm not sure i understand what you are trying to achieve here? Some clarification would be nice (sorry been a long day at work and i'm tired)

Also you cant hide that so no one is cheating there. So... I suggest that having "no data" for lvl 0 skills = 10 point penalty, lvl1 = 50 point penalty, lvl2 = 100, lvl3 = 500 and lvl4 = 1000..
I like this idear of a reduced fixed penalty for "no data" in the "by level" ranks, It is a good compormise and will probably be easier to implement.
And Congratulations on passing 1000 pilots registered on eveboard

Any chance of readding all the certificate catagorys to the global ranks? I was just finishing of the basic certs when that rank was cut
Otherwise the rest of the exclusions are good
What would also be nice is where you have a "no data" catagory, show the penalty value being applied rather than a "-" preferably in Red so you can see its a penalty value rather than a rank value.

#skills by level are currently not counted in the global rankings for levels 0, 1, 2 as well as all the sp by level ranks.
the current penaltie for a no data rank is 1000 pts,
With nearly 2000 pilots now registered on eveboard having no data in say level 3 skills is actually better than having 1 or 2 skills at level 3 which would give you a score of nearly 2000 pts.
And that will only increase as more pilots join the site, so in some cases you are better off having no data.

Unfortunately its not that simple.
Take the Learning Catagory for example which currently has over 560 players tied with the same max sp for that rank.
Giving them all 1st place would not make sense, and in what order do you list those 500+ players all with a rank of #1.
I think what we have now is the best solution in that you can still take that elusive 1st place by improving your global rank.
I have maxed out learning the same as the other 560 odd players but am ranked #81 in that section, but that does not bother me as i know that will improve as i raise my global rank.

Exactly, where 1 or more chars are equal in a catagory, your position is determined by your global rank.
Viggen gets 1st place because he is ranked #9 globally where you are ranked #21, so you can still overtake him globally and take 1st place in #skills. á

Usually when you request your chars sheet, eb will read your api data (providing it has not already done so within the last hour) to update your stats internally.
It can then take upto 30 minutes for that update to show in your ranks, once you view your sheet.
Globally you rank higher than Larshe by more than 400 pts so will get placed above him when your stats are equal.

I think its fine as it is currently, a 1000 pt penaltie for having no skills at lv3 divided by the 28 catagorys currently counted is a very small number that will have little impact on your overall score...
Maybe add a rank for #skills at lv3 and above instead of individule level ranks along with total sp in lv3 and above skills?
I have no objection to piloted ships/modules/blueprints being added to the ranks if a way can be found to implement them without killing the eb servers.

If pilot x is not training anything, his score should only change as other pilots overtake his score or new pilots join eb and rank better pushing him down.
Wiping and recalculating does sound better, tho i've personally not had any issues with the current method. á

Example: - The good Dr Caymus is currently ranked 5th in learning but 359th globally where Drizden is ranked 2nd globally but 38th in learning.
Example 2:- I'm currently ranked 1st in basic certs, but 88th globally, there are a dosen or so players who have all basic certs and rank higher than me globally.
Positions change wildly with every update/change and appears random.

this I want your input on. Previously, the global rank of a user was dropping or going up depending on your 'score', thus the rop pilots' global score would decrease every time the stats were updated as the old score was used in the calculations of the new, so a pilot having eg 500 points, would on the next update get 499 (roughly speaking since the changes were in decimals unless the pilot gained a better rank somewhere else).
Let me see if i understand the issue correctly...
Pilot A trains some skills and as a result his global score decreases, This leads to him climbing a few places in ranks where seconday sorting takes place (players with the same stats). This climb in rank further reduces his global score on the next update?
If thats what you are refering to, I believe thats the way it should work. As you improve your global score, you are naturally going to move up the sorting ladder where more than 1 pilot has the same score in any given catagory.
As you have said the effect this has on your global score is minimal since the decrease is in 0.?? decimal, so i really don't see this as being a major issue, since this will effect ALL pilots equally, so noone is gaining any advantage over others
On the other hand, sorting by skillpoints (even temporarilly) has a major impact on the scores.
Take the learning catagory for example where there are currently more than 1200 pilots who have the max 5,376,000 sp possible, sorting by sp means veteran players like Dr Caynus will shoot straight to the top 10 while a younger player with say 10m sp can only reach a maximum ranking position of 1200+ and will be pushed further and further down as more higher sp players max out that catagory.
that 1200+ ranking points will limit how high he can climb in the global score as he can never catch or overtake higher sp players.
I can't think of any other attribute that will work the same as global score for secondary sorting that will not cause the same issues with the gap between older and younger pilots and believe the best option is to roll back to the working system we had a few days ago.
Originally by: Qoi Couldn't you give all people with the same amount of points the same ranking? I'd consider that fair ;)
Again taking the learning catagory as an example, giving 1200+ pilots the same rank would not be the best solution. á

Why not? They all are technically first place, all masters of that given branch.
As Chribba stated above, even if you give those 1200 pilots the same rank, they still have to be listed in some kind of ordering...
And then the unlucky pilots who get shoved down at the bottom of the list get rewarded with a 1200+ point penalty added to their global score.

Sounds good in principal, but would have the reverse effect of the above with players like Dr Caymus being relegated to the bottom of the list with no chance of ever climbing back up.
Thats why the global rank is so ideal as its a dinamic value that can always be improved upon no matter how old you are. á

Have you concidered dividing the full ranks listing of any given catagory into pages? Say 3 - 5k entrys per page...
With 17k + players registerd it can take 90 sec + to load a full listing, and that will only get longer as more players register.
Most of the time i'm only interested in seeing whos in the top positions or who i'm chasing above me.

The intention was that the top 3 pilots would always get their name displayed on the ranking lists. This however was not fully working as at times anonymous pilots was placed in the top 3 without revealing their names.
So, your input on always showing the name of the top 3 pilots in various categories regardless of being set to anonymous or not? This of course will NOT enable anyone to view private sheets. But it will ensure that no category can get filled with anonymous pilots - and sorta 'the price of being in the top 3 is that everyone know who you are'

I like that idea but make it the top 10 so the ranking summary page contain no "Anonymous" entries.
Agreed with Mashie on this
With regard to the missing certs, can you not import tham from the api data of someone who has them?

1 possible solution however would be to give them the option to choose an Alias name to use instead of their actuall character name?
That way you won't know who they are while at the same time the ranks won't be filled with anonymous entrys.
Add an option in the setting to enter an alias name to be used instead of anonymous?

Chribba, I know you've said you will be adding something that shows which groups are used to calculate global rankings, but could you spare the time and just let me know if I've got it right? I've always assumed its an average based on the following ranks:-
Skillpoints, Skills, Level 3, 4 and 5 skills, All 17 skill categories, Total Certificates, Elite Certificates, Total Isk, Skills Isk Value.
What am I doing wrong? Because if I input all the above into excel, I need to add an extra "adjustment" figure to the averages of like 1700 points to get the correct result. Yet when I do the same for another character in a similar ranking position to myself, that extra adjustment figure can be totally different again, (even a negative figure sometimes). I just cant figure it out
I believe All certificate catagorys are included in the global score, otherwise you have it right. á

With respect, you don't, EB still shows me ranked 16th in basic certificates even tho most of those are trained to higher levels.
Each Certificate level is treated as an independant and seperate cetificate, you cannot get a no data/1000pt penalty in cetificates unless you have not trained any certs in a particular level.
I would prefer that all certs are kept as part of the global rank as they represent how well trained you are in any particular field.
Unlike level 3/4/5 skills where you will end up with no data penaltys once you have no skills sitting at 1 of those levels. á

I like resolute's idea of treating skills levels the same as certificates in regards to globals ranking...
If you've trained a skill to lv5, you've also trained it throught the lower levels, so count it in the lower levels.
Example if you have 20 lv5, 10, level 4 and 7 level 3, add the 20 lv5 to each of the lower levels, so you'd end up with 20 @ 5 30 @ 4 and 27 @ level 3.
That would eliminate the penalty for not having any skills stitting at a lower level.
As to the full api key, i already use mine with evemon to monitor market transactions ect and would have no issue using it with eb provided we have the option to enable or disable the individule features like we can with isk, attributes, implants ect:)

It does seem kinda silly that somebody with 0 level 3 skills has an assigned rank of 1000 but somebody with 1 level 3 skill could have a rank of 22000.
Indeed, if you aren't ranked 1-999 in a group you will get assigned rank 1000 to be used for the global ranking calculations.
That would not be a good solution, as you'd have the top 1000 pilots ranked in the 1-999 and then the other 22,180 pilots (currently) all being assigned a rank of 1000?.
You'd end up with 100's maybe 1000's of pilots all with the same score, or being excluded from the rankings altogether.

there must be something I can do ...
o7 ... train: drones, electronics, engineering, industry, missiles, navigation, pi, social and subsystems... all categories are below average for you ;)
But all joke aside ... I've also been wondering about that fluctuation stuff (having about the same average number of points as you). I guess pilots with more points fluctuate even more.
It's got something to do with sorting by global rank right? You've gotta generate all the ranks for all the categories ... then reorder based on global rank which calculates to a new global rank that again has impact on the reordering?
Would it be easier to give ties equal points (the average of the places they occupy)? So players tied at 1-10 will have an average of 5.5 points in that category...? That means less shuffling around in the global rank which I guess is kinda costly to rewrite all the time.
Its not so much the sorting that causes the flutuations, but new pilots joining EB, Old Pilots leaving or not renewing their subs ect.
Your global score is basicly the sum total of your scores in each of the ranked catagorys / the number of catagorys that count towards the global rank.
When new pilots join EB who rank better in 1 or more catagorys than you do, they will push you down the ranks for that catagory which in turn effects your global rank.
If you then put training into say Drones for example, you will move up that catagory overtaking other pilots who are training something else and that will improve your global score.
So as you can see, fluctuations are the nature of EB, changing the way the ranks are sorted for pilots who have maxed out a catagory will not stop the fluctuations. á

Lets use just 2 of the 30 catagorys that count towards the global rank to make things simpler.
Lets say in drones you have 4m sp and are ranked at position 1500 and in Navigation you only have 1m sp ranking you at position 6000 for example, this will give you a global score of 1500 + 6000 / 2 = a global score of 3750.
Currently there are over 24,000 players registered on EB, lets say 700 of those players are training Drones, they overtake your 4m sp pushing your rank in drones down 700 pts Resulting in your global score increasing to 2200 + 6000 / 2 = 4100
At the same time you put some training into Navigation raising your sp to 3m and moving your rank upto position 4000.
Your scores now become 2200 + 4000 / 2 = 3100
Multiply the above by the 30 catagorys that count towards the global score and 24000+ players and that is where the fluctuations in scores come from.
Your scores WILL fluctuate up and down on a daily basis depending on all the things mentioned above, that is normal.
Secondary sorting by global rank has a minimal, barely noticable effect on the sores since it only effects those players that are tied with others.
In general over time yours scores will decline down the ranks unless you counter that decline with targeted training aimed at raising your scores up the ranks. á

Number of Level 5 Skills - remains unchanged Number of Level 4+ Skills = Level 4's + Level 5's Number of Level 3+ Skills = Level 3's + Level 4's + Level 5's
etc
This would then get rid of the fact that you make your global ranking worse when you are actually improving youself AND allow you to assign a bigger negative for being unranked in a skill catagory like can happen with subsystems and planetary managment.
Make the unranked penalty from 1000 to either 10,000 or equal to the number of active pilots in the database so as the database grows so to does the unranked penalty.
I think this is a good idea, I recently noticed Drahcir Nasom dropped from a global rank of 14th to 115th purely because he had a single skill at level 3 and subsequant rank of over 24,000 compared to a penalty of 1,000 for having none.
It actually pays in some cases to have no rank and a fixed 1k penalty in various catagory's to improve your global rank, which is not a good reflection on how well you've trained, or how the ranking should work. á

Originally by: Estel Arador Chribba, do you have a list of the values used for calculating the total skill value?
Base values from the db dumps...
That would mean the value is underreported? (Some of the rare skills which drop have base values of 0 or 1M isk.)
I asked because I was wondering how I ever spent 8 bill on skills. I do have a lot of skills, but to get to 8 bill the average skill would cost 23M isk or so. That seems high to me (I have no cap ship skills). Now this might be just me forgetting about the isk I poured into getting skills, that's why I wanted to see the list of values.
There is definately an error, glitch in there somewhere, its been that way for over a year now.
Not including the rare unpublished skills, my total was around the 9 billion mark, currently eb is showing me at 15 billion, players with all skills ingame were on 28 bil, currently they are all showing 34 billion.
so its over reporting by approx 6 billion

Just to let you know Chribba, the Progression Graphs are broken for all characters I've looked at.
Bouncing up and down between 0 and actual value on a daily basis. á

That's not the problem. I have bought many more skills by number as well as by price then pilots which are rated in this category thousands of places ahead of me. This (randomly picked) pilot for instance has less then 20 mil SP (compared to my nearly 100 mil), 112 skills (compared to my 323), and no capital skills or otherwise really expensive skills at all, but is calculated with a high skill rate more then double than mine and consequently placed over 3000 positions ahead.
There is an error in the db dump with regards to the price / value of 1 or more skillbooks which is resulting in the total skill value being over calculated by aproximately 6 billion isk.
So those who have the effected skillbooks will be boosted much higher than those who don't.
This is a known issue that has been mentioned before along with the missing Planetary Interaction cetificates.
Hopefully both these issues will get fixed when Chribba has time to update to the latest db dump á

For example, the Skillpoints group is easy, as there is a definite difference between them all. But Number of skills group only has one guy that could claim number 1 spot, the next 9 are all in second place, but it sets them as 2, 3, 4, etc. It should really look as follows:
+ Number of skills
1. Kyreax . . . . . . . . .388 2. Viggen . . . . . . . . .387 2. Ravenal. . . . . . . . 387 2. Lord Darkness. . . . 387 2. Anonymous. . . . . . 387 2. Tripoli. . . . . . . . . 387 2. Celestoid. . . . . . . .387 2. Neurotic Cat . . . . . 387 2. Claire Voyant. . . . .387 2. Arthalion Thoidon. . 387 11. Calumbacha. . . . . 385 12. Towaoc. . . . . . . . 384 12. Michi Noketsuna . . 384 14. Femintaki . . . . . . 383 14. RaTTuS. . . . . . . . 383 At least that way, it would be fair to all and show a true reflection of overall position on the board.
This has been suggested before, the problem is that in some catagorys, there are 100's even 1000's of players all with the same score having trained all skills to level 5 in that catagory.
Giving all those players the same rank would not make sense in what is essentially a leaderboard, as there would be no way for them to improve on that rank and improve their position over other players with the same rank.
All those players have to be listed in some kind of order, so how do you decide what order to list them in?
At the moment they are ordered according to their global score, which means they cam always move up the ordering ladder by improving their global score.

Where multiple players have the same score in any given catagory, they are sorted by their global score.
The global score is the average of their scores in each of the ranking catagorys and shows how well trained the are in all of the ranking catagorys.
Giving them all the same rank would only be a cosmetic change, they would still be listed in the same order as they are now.
You phisicly cannot place them all in the same position, they have to be ordered by 1 means or another.
Using global score to decide their position in the list is the best option as it can always be imporved upon and thus allows you to raise your position in any given rank.
Giving them all the same rank and then listing them according to that rank would result in everyone with the same rank being listed in a fixed position that cannot be changed or overtaken. á
