I think this sums it up pretty nicely. Of course PvP is a major game component, but I think presenting EVE as being only a pew-pewing player versus player game does not really fit what the game ultimately has to offer.
I have been playing for over two years now, and have not had a single PvP encounter - yet there is enough material to keep me entertained and I still have things to do I have never done before that do not involve PvP.
I short, I would love to see a teaser that caters to the non-PvPer.

Try to not get too excited. It has rocks exploding. And its run at ludicrous speed.

Edited by: Cors on 29/09/2009 16:38:01 ok. Lets see...
Mining..
Production..
markets...
don't think so..
Exploration? Now that could get some subs.. you'd loose it soon after as they find out that each system/wh is basically the same.
Faction warfare? Would work.. but again. it's pvp.
0.0 alliance level strategy. Now THAT could pull people in. The clashing of two or more alliance's. Fighting for the same space. Upgrading their space. Defending their space. Make the video from the CEO's/Dir's eye view. The logistics, the coordination, the politics, the spying... THAT could get a lot of subs if done right.
The simple truth is 80% of the "professions" in game have 3 goals. To be the best in that profession because you want to be the best, to finance PVP, or as a component of another profession.

No, you're not. I'm sure a large portion of the pvp driven people will be playing Rust when it comes out anyway :)

You are missing the point. I do not want a teaser on just ONE profession, but one that will show how versatile EVE really is. I would try to put all these together (not particularly in that order):
- Mining - Missions: level 1 to level 5 (solo or cooperative) - The new Epic Arcs - Production and Invention (yes, a single player CAN build a Titan...) - Market (yes, a single player CAN influence the lives of thousands of players) - Exploration, Wormholes and Salvaging - Factional Warfare - Player Owned Structures (yes, a single player CAN build a Deathstar)

you have had a PVP encounter eve is a entirely PVP game. Your thinking of it to laterally. Don't think of pvp as just combat
mining is PVP, playing the markets is PVP, The only thing that isn't PVP is missions but if you sell the loot that is PVP.

This probably has more to do with how you put it all together in an ad.
As in why do people always have to think of eve industry = looser loner mining in a hs belt :S, I am in an industrial corp, I dont think I mined after my 2nd month. We have been through countless wars, pvp runs, and lots of combat. PvP and industry in eve go hand in hand when your in player corps and alliances with goals.

Eve is a PvP game. Ultimatly, everything you do ends up as a PvP choice.
What Eve is not is solely combat PvP. Much more PvP takes place than just combat. While certain activities are PvE in a limited scope, on the grander scheme they fit in to the PvP function of Eve.

Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if you could snag a couple of subscribers by doing a spoof of those old "from grain to bread"-style educational films, except it describes how T2/T3 is made…

This is EVE
I don't know where you get the idea that a video based on the PvE aspects can be anything resembling interesting. It would probably make people quit and not want to sign up for eve if anything. Looking at 200 market orders and modifying them by .01 isk? Clicking build and then hours later you get the item? EPIC ACTION!

- logging in is pvp (when there's a queue) - undocking in jita is pvp (competing to warp out before being bumped) - coming up with witty remarks in local is pvp (coming up with better comments/insults than others)
