I received an email that says it is from EVE, but I know better than to trust it immediately. If someone from CCP could verify either way that this email is in fact theirs or a scam it would be greatly appreciated. It appears as follows:
My name is Amarretto Christ and it is my hopes that you remember the days when we used to travel together among the constellations of New Eden. I've recently noticed that when we last parted ways a substantial amount of ISK remained in my account. While one would normally relish such a windfall, this has proven a rather problematic situation for me, as the lack of sufficient advancement in AI has left me unable to spend it myself.
I have spoken with the local authorities and negotiated a free pass for your return in order to reclaim your funds. The button below will grant you a one-day activation and it is my highest wishes that you will join me in New Eden and put these funds to good use.
The total amount awaiting you is 537752603,91 which I have been told can be traded for at least one full month of time in New Eden, if not more.* Please return and take this ISK off my hands. Spend it on PLEX. Spend it training new skills. Indulge in a night of reckless abandon. Having 537752603,91 ISK in my bank and not being able to spend it is torture. Please save me from this fate.
* Price of PLEX may vary from region to region. Current rate at the time of this email is approximately 290 million ISK.
Yours faithfully,
Amarretto Christ

Firstly, you received an email, so its out of game. If you believe this is a real life scam please contact CCP or the police directly. This isn't about an in game scam/action so GTFO.
Secondly. See here.

I'm no expert but I think that is almost certainly a scam. The wording is rather close to certain phishing emails I've read.

Wow, a response that isn't worded like some dorky know-it-all (see above)
Yeah, I am not going to touch it anyhow, but I just wanted to let them know if it was anything to be concerned about.

Old corpmate (who, coincidentally, we have been trying to get back into the game) got on the corp forum yesterday and said he'd recieved exactly the same thing (except it was his toons' name ofc, and i think he had around 3b apparently. Which is around 2.7b more than he remembers having). Reeks of scam.

I seem to recall a CSM person stating, not only that it is a CCP email, but that it shows 10* how much you actually have, as a result of a coding error...
Originally by: "CCP Zymurgist" This was actually a typo on the mail sent out which made it reflect an incorrect mount of ISK in your wallet. Sorry for the error and hopes of getting a quick Titan!

It's a real mail. The amounts sometimes have a decimal wrong due to a coding error, but it's a legit offer.
Basically, CCP gave you a free day so you can get ingame and use some of that cash lying around to buy a PLEX. Got one on all my accounts that had more than ~300m on them. It's why I came back, as a matter of fact

1) it's not a copy. One was laughing at the isk difference (the link), this one asks if it's a scam. Sound the same? 2) If they didn't read the nicely formatted, non-caps r*ped post - including a quote of exactly what you put in "'s, why would they read that... mess? -_-_-_-

I could go find the other ****ing 9001 posts about the subject asking if its a scam or why the value is all messed up or how someone managed to tie their username to an email address or why CCP hasn't fed their ****ing cat after sending them this mail, but I made the horribly stupid assumption that even a below average intelligence 12 year old could see that the emails we almost identical and that a CCP representative responded explaining the asked discrepancy in the other email so perhaps it was actually a legitimate email with a mistake in it..
Wasn't that what the OP was asking? If it was a legitimate email? Isn't the implication that CCP saying that they made a typo in the mail is that CCP actually SENT the mail? So unless we are living in some alternate reality where companies suddenly decide to try and scam their paying customers, I would say that yes.. Its a legitimate email.. I'll just ask my dog, hes only 2 years old.. Yep, he agrees with me.. You are ******ed.

Sorry, but... wasn't that EXACTLY the point of my first post? to point out that... ugh... a CSM representative said CCP made a typo, hence CCP must have sent it in the first place? -_-_-_-

And that gives you reason to be abusive why? surely you can do a simple thing of STFU and close the thread?
Post on your main please.

Why do you keep banging on about a CSM representative, zymurgist has nothing to do with the CSM
