As we all know the alliance access to POS labs and building arrays is by any other definition a joke. to quote eve guides...
Quote:
"Currently in EVE there is no way for another corp (whether in the same alliance or not) to open up a POS structure containing a corp hangar and see inside it, unless you are the owning POS corp. Another corp CAN put items into an array but they disappear into a black hole lost forever (or until a GM retrieves them).
That alone is the cause of why POS alliance and public research is broken."
I for one was hoping at some point they would fix this situation. i wrote to the GMs asking for them to think about having an "alliance members" er.. member in your members tab in corp to grant roles and access. This would seem like a logical way to sidestep this problem. The reply perplexed me to say the least.
Quote: // Dear Player, Alliance players donŠt have direct access to any POS hangers (labs included), so the only way for alliance members to access labs is as you are doing already. They also canŠt make copies or do invention as these require access to the hangers for input or output.
This is in fact by design.
Regards, [BH]ChilledBeer - BugHunter //
by design eh? maybe im having a moment here but did i just get fobbed off? surely the present state of affairs is simply a work around. No access to invention, copying, manufacture is an aberration of this "feature".
I for one think this is unacceptable and as such am asking you all to sign on and help petition this silliness away. want to be able to use your alliance pos as its supposed to be? now is your chance.

POS belong to corps, not to individuals, not to alliances.

They removed copy for alliance at the beginning of 2007 (soon 3 years ago) and during the inital ranting about that issue by userbase promised to 'fix it soon(tm)'. There was issue where it took petition to get the copies done that way.
Later there was some additional tech problems assosiated with quick fix or they just did not think anyone uses POS labs at all (i mean have you looked at how many cliks does it take to start job in pos lab? It's like mining in Brutix wrist damage kind of operation to dump 20 or 30 prints into POS lab).
Overall I have to large degree given up hope that CCP will be arsed to make POS'es user friendly during the next 3 years. During the last approx 4 years I have been using POS'es on regular basis there has been ofc several improvements like, but not limited to (1) Fixing of pos moonmining bonuses (took a bit above 3 years I think) (2) BIGGER fuel bays so you dont need to showel coal into your steamtower every few hours with alt to keep it working. (3) Bling towers in their faction glory (4) There was short while approx 6 months ago when POS Industry interface was better (and did not refresh after every move by freezing you up for 30 secons), but some later patch broke it again. And .. ummm .. well yeh there is also some additional modules introduced, but overall POS are same as they were in anicent times when they were intruduced. They just never have been priority, as can be seen from timeframes it takes to fix anything assosiated with them. Ie on average some 3+ years.

I'd love to see some proper tools for roles completely, but starting with POS would be satisfying to begin with :)
If you run an alliance, giving acces (not entrance) on labs for alliance members not in the POS corp should be with the suggested tab 'My Alliance'. That tab should come back in Science & Industry, where you now have Public and My Corporation.
Playing this game for more then 3 years has thought me one thing... Icelandic people have odd ways of thinking about an user-interface :) buyer |

Agreed with 100% - one of the main reasons for joining an alliance is to pool resources. Why should a pos not be part of the pooling. Whether the pos is shared or not should be up to the owners of the pos in question.

I think it is attributable to the socialist preconception of fairness. We all know that there are always multiple ways of performing any operation in EVE, if any particular method of performing an in-game operation were easier than any other it would naturally become the dominant method. To prevent this, ccp figures out the most difficult method of performing any particular task, and makes sure all other methods are made equally as difficult, either by inserting unnecessary mouse clicks, or inexplicable user interface delays. Thus method diversity is preserved; for what reason I cannot say.

Personally, I'd like a method to make the 'public' slots actually available to the public.

100m says that CCPs coders are a lot more proficient at it than the OP, and that there's more than one of them. -_-_-_-
