One of my char's is finally in a position to use HAM's well, skill-wise, but I have little practical experience with them. I am curious what is better in effective damage, not by what EFT says, though I definitely use EFT as a baseline (see below).
I know I could simply test them both in combat, but that can be an expensive training cycle, losing ships.
So here is what I see, when comparing T2 Rage HAM missiles to CN HAM missiles:
Raw Damage: T2's 10% better Missile Velocity: Factions 20% better Missile Duration: T2's 7.5% better Missile Range: (Velocity x Duration) Factions 11.6% better Explosion Velocity: Factions 8.6% higher Explosion Radius: 30.6% smaller Damage reduction Factor: 4.5 for Factions, 4.8 for T2's, and I have no idea what this value means
So based on what I am seeing, Factions are superior against faster, smaller sig targets (below 180), while T2's are better against slower moving, larger targets.
Can some missile jockeys confirm my theories with some practical experience?

You could probably calculate the speed/signature radio for which the two break even. It wouldn't even be that hard. It would, however, be skill-dependent.
Edit: With perfect skills, it seems that this ratio is 0.871 m/s per m. |

In my experience T2 are best used vs. BC and larger hull sizes. Faction are best used vs. cruiser and smaller hull sizes.
If you are inquiring because you intend to use them for PvE, I'd recommend not even going there. HAM's suck for pretty much every type of PvE.
If you are using HAM's for PvP, just keep in mind that using the t2 variants increases your sig radius. If you are flying a T3, I'd recommend sticking with faction as the increased sig radius is not a very good trade-off for the potential additional dps. |

I use faction. Between explosion radius and range, t2 just isn't worth it. |

From my experience:
T2 is useful against stationary BC, BS and bigger ships, for anything else - faction. Faction is more useful when fighting BCs as well, since they're fast enough to mitigate T2 HAM's increased damage due to reduced expl velocity. Thus i usually cary faction HAMs loaded. Generally, "advanced" ammo - T2 ammo - isn't a large enough DPS increase over faction until you have the required specialization to level 4. |

Use Rage against BCs and larger, use CN against cruisers and smaller. Simple.
This assumes that you have your target webbed, of course. |

Hello
Faction all the way only scenario when t2 would be of use is shooting a Battleship sized target that is tackled. And even that scenario you have to consider that you are in smaller ship and you inflate the sig radius so the bship can hit you very nicely.
Add to this that hassle of reloading and the time wasted doing that I end up using faction only plus the t2 Javelin if some funny guy is trying to Kite.
T2 damage missiles only get used in the HML/Cruise PVE scenarios where you rig the ship with rigors.

Thanks all.
Sounds like faction is indeed the way unless it is a big, very slow target. |

Heavy Assault Missile Specialization description says differently: "2% bonus per level to the rate of fire of modules requiring Heavy Assault Missile Specialization." Faction HAMs don't require the skill, and therefore gain no benefit from it. |

Except that RoF isn't an attribute of the missiles -- it's an attribute of the launchers. (Compare Standard and Assault launchers. They fire the same missiles.) T2 HAM launchers definitely do require the heavy assault missile specialization skill and therefore benefit from it even when firing faction missiles. |

Yeah, got the launchers and the ammo mixed up. |

The 2% bonus rof is applied to the module: launcher
Since missiles are not modules: no matter if you use regular faction or T2 ammo the 2% per lvl is always applied to the module=launcher
Unless English is even more silly than I ever thought |
