With the upcoming changes to the involvement of POS in sovereignty, I am concerned that dreadnoughts will have less of a use.
I was thinking if the siege module could have a scipt or a different mod maybe, giving less DPS but also less of the sig and tracking penalties. It could consume 3 times the isotopes with half the cycle time, so its not a permanent death-tower sitting forever. With some help of recons painting and webbing they could dish out half of their current DPS onto BSs, around 2-3k, which would be worth the efford and risk.
The counter would be the new fighter-bombers, sitting dreads would be easy targets.
With giving dreads an anti-BS role ability EVE could have a more dynamic battlefield, since recon gangs with their special painting, scrambling, jamming, cloaking abilities also have the ability to call in capitals. This would result in more mixed fleets, and more tactical options, the FC would have to ask "Shall we kill the DPS BSs first or the recons before they jump in dreads?" or "Let them get dreads, we have our moms sitting in the back for a suprise".
Finally, every corp with at least 10-15 active members have a pair of motherships already, so this would not be a nerf to the small groups out there. (I'm in one of those corps myself)
What do you think

I, for one, am looking forward to not having to ask every member of my corp to train dreadnought.

I see ur concern, but if they are easily killed by fighter-bombers, it is not a rock-paper-scicorss situation, moms are not easily killed by dreads. It will be a viable option for a group of recons to go behind the border, cloaked, spot a group of BSs, maybe even a gate camp, call in some dreads and then retreat. If they hit a bunch of BCs, the dreads are useless and recons are fragile. So its all balanced.
You could call it the new nano, but as long as the dreads are easily killed by fighter-bombers, you have to think twice before calling in billions of ISK of ships to the battlefield, since there are plenty of MSs around these days.

You will still need the Dreads to pop enemy POS's.
Also, I am sure the Sov claiming thing will certainly need some Dread fire power to take out.
I believe they have been testing the new sov mechanic on SiSi, any input from that? ---- a reply which adds nothing to a thread or results in a thread being bumped with no new discussion worthy content is considered spam and as such warrants a forum ban |

dev`s have said that they wont make any change to dreds
the reason is they are supposed to do one thing and that one thing they do verry well(Phoenix not included) they fill a role and just coz sov is changeing dose not reduce that role. POS popping will still be a part of conflict if anything dread pilots will have more work to do so yay for us. |

I find it hard to believe devs would overlook how changing sov mechanics and POS usage would affect dreads. I'm pretty sure they have a solution already. I suggest we wait and see before proposing changes to things we do not fully understand yet.

Like that you need to siege stations to take control of them.
And i assume in practise especially with the fighter bombers, if they would be used alot anyway: moms still expensive, carriers will just smartbomb them off the dreads.

I'm sorry smartbombing fighters is a fantasy. I dont know the final stats on the fighter-bombers but it will sure be in the cruiser range again. And not every carrier fits officer SBs, infact its a rare sight now.
All I'm saying the role of a dreadnought is sad and boring, it could be made more fun.

They have effectively changed dreads by making titans OMGWTF own them. Your now better off saying up you isk and getting one of the big guys.
To the OP - dreads hit BS just fine out of seige with DPS ~= to a sniper bs, the ideas redundant.

Mostly harmless [ 2005.12.09 19:22:50 ] (notify) You have started trying to warp scramble the Dreadnought |

Like 5nake said once: train towards a dread, but not for a dread! (i.e.: awu 5, tanking and fitting skills at 5, racial BS 5, etc.)
