Basically, I'm living in null-sec and some items get sold on the market for half price or less of what you can sell them for in Empire. I'd like to bring this stuff up to market every few weeks and make a few more million from the haul. I know a proper blockade runner would be ideal, but I have a LOT of other things to skill for at the moment and I won't be able to fly one for some time.
Do you guys have any ideas for a T1-fitted, cheap blockade runner-style fit for this purpose? In the past, if I'm running something small, like Salvage, I've used frigates, but obviously the more cargo space the better. I'd like to hear your ideas for fits in ANY hull size. I'm only flying Gallente ships at the moment, but I'd be happy to hear about other racial ships for ideas.
In short: How would you fit a frigate as a blockade runner? What about an indy? Do you have any other ideas for hulls that could be converted to this task? What ewar should I use?
Thanks for your input!

Edited by: Sajeera on 07/10/2009 06:19:29 Dont know how big cargohold you need but if you can fly galente, Exequror with expanded cargoholds in the lows and t1 rigs can carry 2800m2 and can align faster then indy.
For smaller cargo you can use some frigates like Magnate or Probe with around 1000m2 cargohold after t1 rigs and expanders or if you only have galente skills - Imicus with around 800m2 .
In bubble camp you are dead anyway but will do ok in low sec.
edit* Frigates can survive bubbles with the mwd+cloak and align trick but still nowhere near blockade runner.

An Exequror! That's a great idea. I don't see any on BattleClinic. How would you fit it? I'm playing with that in EFT now.

Edited by: Rin Taleda on 07/10/2009 11:10:22 How about a Sigil with 4 iStabs and 1 Warp Stab in the lows? It will be fairly nimble and good cargo. It will align faster and carry more than an Exequror, but it has almost no tank.

Cheapest: Iteron I, with 2 Warpcore stabs in the lows and 10mn microwarpdrive, and a prototype cloaking device. Put a shield enhancing module if it fits.
Put a GSC in the cargo and you get (at Gallente Industrial I) 3650m3 if I am not mistaken.
Plus it aligns and warps in 8 seconds or less with my pitiful skills.
I once jumped through low sec only to find an insta-locking Loki + Stiletto, and I lived to tell the tale. Iteron Mark I, mind you.
Doesn't get much cheaper than that, and unless you find a bubble you have good chances of escaping.
The Exequror sounds good, but you need warpcore stabs anyway. No blockade runner + no warpcore stabs = you and your ship won't be together for long.

For small goods without a scout you're safest in a Covops in my opinion. Just use the directional scanner before warping to gates and be careful of bubbles.
The fitting for "safe travels" should be pretty obvious: a few warp core stabs (in case a lone interceptor tries to tackle you) and fill the rest of the slots up with inertia stabs or nanos (mind that on small ships you have to remember the siganture-nerf from iStabs). Mids should have an MWD and perhaps an AB aswell (though usually if you get tackled then you're dead anyway so meh). The highs should contain a cloak. The rest is fairly irrelevant.
If you have ISK to burn then I guess an even safer "mini hauler" would be a t3 ship with full coward-setup (covops cloak + bubble immunity) but thats just silly unless you're hauling ultra-expensive officer mods or something.

You don't have T2 Hauler skills - but do you have t2 mining barge skills (quite a few people are in this situation) - I used a skiff as a transport ship for a long time, it's fast aligning, it can fit a cloak and speed boosts and it gets +1 warp core strength for free. Never got caught, and I've since moved onto proper blockade runners.

Thank you guys for all your input. I settled on an Exchequer with 2 stabs, 1 expanded cargo hold, some shield extenders and...I'm thinking about using an ECM burst to make myself just a little harder to catch but I don't have much experience using these.
With only 1 Expanded Cargo module and my Cruiser skills, I get just shy of 1000 m3, which is great for a ship that agile with that thick skin. I'll give it a trial run soon.

Sigil is a fast and lightweight hauler. I used to use them as 'pretend' blockade runners, because with istabs (and at the time, nanofibers as well) it was extremely zippy.

I'd simply bite the bullet and train for a real blockade runner as sooner or later you are going to get caught in a camp then blown up and podded. It's only about 20 days to get into one and then you will be pretty much uncatchable in all regions of space.
