I know about can-flippers and such, but this is a new thing for me so help a miner out okay?
I was jet-can mining in .5 space with some slow traffic, couple people flipping my can but that didn't bother me. I was taking in a lot more then they could take out. however something different happened. I had been strip-mining and almost maxed out my jet-can, when I see someone approach. I think it's a flipper and I could care less. I see him or her flag and warp off. But something wasn't right. I open the can to see that nothing was taken, instead they added a charge of hybrid ammo. for some reason this act changed ownership of the can to them. I couldn't even get my ore back! So mind explaining what the HECK happened please?

Actually they dropped their own can with a single charge in it, took your ore, moved it to their own can and scarpered. Your can exploded when all the ore was removed.
Edit: what they were hoping was that you'd not notice, take the ore and become flagged. This is a true can flip - they flipped your ore from your can to theirs. When they just take ore and hope you shoot - it's technically not can flipping, although it has become known as that.

The funny thing is that you experienced a real can flip for what appears to be the first time.
Taking a little bit out of a can doesn't flip the can now does it? It just flags them. A full flip means that to get any of your stuff you make yourself a free target.
Clever, eh? Well...it was the first 100,000 times it was done. Now people don't jet can mine so much.

You won't stop flipping completely, but at least they will have to know how to find you first. That will eliminate a decent percentage of the playerbase right off the get-go.

TBH, with hulks and with (relatively) cheap medium rigs, there's not much reason to jet can mine anymore. A hulk will hold a similar amount as a hauler so I don't see much point.
If you're still mining in a retriever it's a bit of a different answer...

If you jetcan without a support ship to grab it then and there you are a mug and you deserve to have it flipped.
A hulk with rigs and GSCs in the hold can store as much ore as any hauler besides an itty V anyway so whats the point?

Because we have an itty V or Orca. And we mine in a system w/o a station, where the rocks are always good size.
Shockingly enough, there's more than one way to do things in this game.

Someone did that to me when I was mining in my Osprey...I scared him off with a flight of light drones.
I half expected him to come back and wtfpwn my Osprey, but he instead left system and never returned.

I've had this happen. Tbh? I have an alt of my own in system with a shuttle (he's providing fleet bonus's anyways) who comes and flips it back when my hauler arrives. Not a perfect sollution, but it doesn't happen often.
Oh, and to the idiot who said 'lol, just haul in a hulk(sic)' -- I'd rather have 2 MLU II's than two Cargo extenders... wonder why. -_-_-_-

I use to steal ore all the time earlier this year and late last year.
I used to take it ALL! make a jet can put all thiers into mine... warp off fully stabbed. then return at range 20km and tractorbeam in the jet can if there was one left, at same time iw ould scan the mining ship for possible ransoms. never got any but yeah lol. usually this would drive the miners bat****crazy and attack me.. iw ould keep returning in my hauler tilli thought they was convived i was stealing ore and only ore then next return flight.. come back in a ship to pop them. i fell into a few traps but thats expected... got some really cool fights fro it too and lots of lolfits.
bottom line. have an alt ina shuttle flip youre can back or mine into a friendly orca.
Why are you reading my Sig for dumbass?
