Edited by: Pottsey on 08/10/2009 19:58:56 Unless I missed part of the story there is no reference to Dagan not being Jove. Even if I missed it the ship is still very much a Jove ship. The ship is made by Jove, requires Jove skills to fly and Society of Conscious Thought cruisers say Jove Cruiser on the preview.
So perhaps it wasn't a Jove pilot but you can still blow up a Jove ship.

the jove survive because they are the most advanced and other races do not stand a chance against their superior tech howether with whs and t3 all the races tech has jumped forward substantially and in some future break throughs in technology its highly feasable that we may catch up and in doing so threaten the joves existence.

Actually caldari are much closer to them. Hell you need caldari skills to fly jove ships.

Introducing the Jovians would be a good way to end Eve (not that Eve is finishing any time soon!). What better than to have the Jove blow the crap out of everything and everyone as a final farewell to the game.
Making them playable or interactable (is that even a word?) would just ruin the whole point of Jove... they're supposed to be unknown, powerful, even somewhat mystic. Having them be like current ships +20% more powerful would be a bit of a disappointment (yey the death knight of EVE! :o).
It's a wildcard that CCP can use to justify EXTREME changes to the game, and it should stay like that tbh.

I have killed a few Jove myself and so have others on the Jove channel. The lore is hinting more and more that we are catching up to the Jove. I don't think they are super advance compared to us anymore. Not with T3 and the advancements made from wormholes which pushed us forwad many years in tech.
Jarna said "You would just need like a 100 member fleet to take it down. lol" Not really. 2 or 3 of our Battleships would kill a Jove battleship with ease. Sure 1v1 and I would bet on the Jove but they are not that powerful they can take on multiple ships with ease.
Confirming this, Battle of Vak Atioth (I think that's right?) between the Amarr and Jove was won with superior tactics and information gathering, and a Jove Titan with a Doomsday Device. They're only slightly ahead of the game in weapons tech, but vastly superior in spying and information gathering.

We are a threat to the Jove now due to our numbers and tech. I bet if we did a full scale war we would beat them or at least it would be a close call and not a sure win for them. Sure we would lose more ships then them but we would win over time due to numbers.
Haryman said "Level 1 epic arc in a Proteus? Really?" Yes for a number of reasons. It was a new toy to play with, I don't have any smaller ships setup, it runs level 1, 2, 3 missions faster than just about anything else, I don't like flying ships with less than 3k shields, small drones with a 50% drone speed boost is fun (50% with 1 mod fitted). Compared to my other ships it's agile and moves fast for all the massive amount of travailing around (+75% warp speed), lots of cargo bay to loot and finely there is no such thing as overkill in Eve :)

Dude, this is not Jove ship, it's SOCT, afair it is even called "soct cruiser" in database. Yes, I know SOCT have had some connectios to Jove but it still is not Jove.

Jove ships are hideous.
I think that it's best they're kept on the back burner as someone up above said, though. Pretty nice gameplay/story changing superbomb CCP can keep in reserve for the time being.

XIII'th said "Yes, I know SOCT have had some connectios to Jove but it still is not Jove. " SOCT are Jove, perhaps a group of Jove that semi split off from the main Jove Empire but still Jove. "The SCT has, through the ages, acted as the outlet for the spiritual needs of the Jovians, although that role is only a secondary one today." so clearly there is still a strong connection to the main Jove empire even if they have split off from the empire.
"At first, all the students were children of SCT members, but a few decades ago the Society started admitting, each year, a small number of children from 'outside,' even non-Jovian ones."
So up until recently SOCT was made up 100% of Jove members with came from its own SOCT enclave's. Now each year a small amount of children are allowed into SOCT. Of that small amount allowed in an even smaller amount are none Jove from the 4 empires the rest are Jove from other non SOCT enclaves. So SOCT is almost completely made up of Jove, running on Jove tech. As for screens shots we are talking years back and I have had many new PCs since then. I should have the screenshots some place but who knows where. I could take screenshots of wreckage and body parts but that hardly proves anything as anyone with enough isk can buy those.
XIII'th said [b]"it's SOCT, afair it is even called "soct cruiser" Its needs the Jove cruiser skill to fly and says Jove Cruiser in game see http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/9048/jove.jpg.
In the same way a Ishtar is a CreonDron curser and also a Gallante cruiser. I see the SOCT ships as the same. It's a SOCT cruiser and Jove Cruiser.

Ghost Hunter said "Were you around for the Rogue Jovian General stunt about ... what is it, 4 or 5 years ago now?" That was over 6 years ago I believe. I think that was after the beta but before I managed to get the retail game. I missed it by a matter of months. It was before the Jove got killed that dropped the first T2 miners right? Back when turrets had not tracking and large turrets could kill frigs and all ship sizes with ease.
As I recall back then we didn't even have large turrets, well didn't have enough for a full high slot layout. The market was not yet built up and battleships where more rare then today's Titans. If you did find a super rare battleship it had small turrets as getting 6 large turrets was next to impossible. On top of fitting and gear problems player had a few million skillpoints max.
If I recall correctly it was a high skillpoint fully fitted Jove ship that beat up very poorly fit player ships with low skillpoints. I believe back then most people only had frigs or cruisers if they where rich.

I Flew with the Rogue Jovian general and his 2 brothers together with Oracle Corp , i think the even was in 2003, it was the first player corp interaction, that made the news, was a fun fight, I think we where 24 Oracle cruisers, and the Jovians against a combined BS fleet in stain, and we got killed each and everyone, was fun

I think we should be given chance to help Joves as scientist and explorers since they are investigating something around EVE wormhole.
There should be no fighting involved as they easily destroyed entire Amarr fleet which prevented them from conquering entire space and led to creation of different empires.
Jovian envoys did drop Miner2 BPOs long time ago in a game event.

It's a wildcard that CCP can use to justify EXTREME changes to the game, and it should stay like that tbh.
If a character did interact with a Jove NPC i bet they would want to be "off the grid" when they did it, all the other races NPC's might get ****ed.
One might even want to get out of ones pod before interacting with Jove.

hmmm... the implied back alley, underworld, morally ambiguous type of interaction in Incarna comes to mind when you say that. Absolutely everything is subjective. |
