Edited by: Magnum III on 07/10/2009 19:13:09 I can't believe this targeting bracket has lasted this long.
The thing is horrable to look at and the Allaince Tournament Vids on you-tube are awesome onely to have this huge ugliy thing ratating over a beutiful ship.
Is there any way to turn it off? and I mean the circling triangles.
It is annoying and crappy looking,
X-BTF gives at least 10 choices for targeting curser. I just want one, to turn it OFF & just have the thin lines at the very least or most whatever.
I just can't stand the one in EVE.
The rotating triangles need to be updated graphicaly.
Other then that the game is awesome!!!

Edited by: Zitus on 07/10/2009 19:15:57 I myself dont mind them much, But I know for a fact that it would be awesome to customize them a little given a few templates...
imagine a little health readout underneath a rotating concentric ring reticule, or little readouts that mimic range or transversal. That way, if you're looking at your target, you don't need to look at the overview to check it's status so often.
Keeps your eyes on the screen!
That, and you can mod it down to near no animation. Your choice...
could be a cool new feature.

Nice idea's! I wish I could think of stuff like that. but you did so good enough for me.
Maybe if CCP EVER EVER makes the UI targeting better they will do stuff like this but at least make it a little better looking at 1st so we don't have to wait so long. It's been since 2003 I don't think it changed.
I mean gosh I know they got an awesome art team. This has got to be the top of the list for me, after all it is what we look at most of the time. |

Would be nice to see something a little more high tech, the reticule with distance, transversal and such would be welcome addition. I don't mind the rotating arrows, but they do look a bit dated, could definitely use some improvements. ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.
Nobody round here is offering the second one therefore your choices are limited! |

seeing as we are going towards circles anyway (fitting screen anyone?) I propose a new targeting overlay, thats a.. well, triangle with curved edges. Almost a circle :)
the edges should have curved bars on them that show shield/armor/hull, so you dont have to look at your targets wherever your targets are.. (optionally you could turn off the fixed target area thingie)
Blane Xero > Lance is at -0.9 sec status with a 1 million bounty. LAnce is also amarrian. Thats 3 evil points |

Yeah, it is kinda sad to turn off the entire UI and try to guess if your ship is about to blow up or the one your shooting at.
Buy I have to turn it off just to clear my head of rotating triangles sometimes.
Or I just look at all the other ships.
Thank GOODNESS we can turn off those lines going across the entire screen. some not moving would be good to start though.
Aso Good idea on the circlish rectical

This might sound stupid, but... how?

Go into the ESC menu, General Settings tab, it's the last checkbox in the middle row, Show Targeting Crosshair, simply uncheck it and they're gone. ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.

I saw someone do a mockup similar to this, basically showing much more of the overview information on the screen. It was pretty cool; hard to argue against getting to keep more of your attention on where the action is happening, rather on the overview... which with that description really does bring home the feeling of 'spreadsheets in space'.

I feel so dumb for not noticing that. I even looked through every option in the menu too. Thanks for the tip.

Until CCP allow interface modding most of the visuals will remain bad. It's rarely mentioned though so I assume there is either little demand for it or some players are so used to the clunky UI and graphics they don't think about it anymore. The whole interface could be amazing and fully customisable, just needs the willingness to allow limited scripting.

Granted, the little circling triangles let you see the target in space, which considering the ranges involved means that may be all you can see other than a bracket (or lack of bracket depending on overview settings). I don't have any problem with it whatsoever, but it could certainly due with some updating.
I would love to have some small readouts below my target, however. +/- velocity (closing or moving away and how fast, not raw speed). ####/#### Transversal/Angular velocity.
The rapidly spinning brackets should only show up on a ship I am currently actively engaging with something. Targeted but non-engaged ships should just have a highlight of some sort that's static.

Oh yes awesome idea, I agree of course, but I was figuring that might be too much to CCP, strange to think that of CCP I know, they ARE awesome but sometime these little things I don't understand.

Someone posted a screenshot from the game taken some years back, notice the circular reticule around the target, something along these lines, with a few nice enhancements would be in line with the suggestions here.

Think they mentioned at fanfest of redoing the whole combat ui icons and **** someday. They said if they fix it somehow, it will probably be complete overhaul.
Nice idea that the targeting reticule could have transversal or health on it.

...or we've been asking/complaining about it for so many years that we've mostly given up on CCP ever bringing the UI up to meet the standards of a decade ago.
