I want to train up so I can find and visit Archeology and Hacking sites. (I want to visit combat sites too.) I read on some random forum that hacking sites are decent in high-security space, but archeology sites aren't worth it. But I'm wondering if that's just one random person's opinion. What do you think? I can save learning archeology for later when I feel comfortable going into low/null-sec space (probably with a cloaking ship).

I have done a few highsec exploration sites (something to do while the alt looks for a wh).
The mag sites tend to be horrible, with just a cpl mil. or t1 salvage. The radar sites however have sometimes dropped as much as 40mil of stuff.

I'd guesstimate high sec radars averaging about 10 million. Don't think that I've ever seen a 40 million one in high sec, but the can contents are random so it's possible. I have seen several with nothing in them though...

Can anyone give some example on what you see on your scanners please. I've often seen some "Guristas Burrows" and warped into a couple only to find them empty of ships, just a few structures which I've popped but got nothing out of. Is there a certain level of hisec that is good eg 0.5-0.7 or have I missed something or just got unlucky.

In a busy system, chances are someone got there before you.

What you are finding are cosmic anomalies, which in highsec are tiny combat sites that aren't worth the time it takes to warp to them. What you need to be probing for are cosmic signatures, which have different "groups" which are explained on the previously linked page. ---

Edited by: Zeya Chura on 09/10/2009 17:28:40 A sidebar to my original post... I did this mission: http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Vitoc_Vector_-_Earning_Their_Trust_%282_of_4%29 which gave me a "Civilian Codebreaker". This item seemingly cannot be sold (and there are none on the market), unlike similarly named civilian modules. I used it for the mission to hack into this thing. But now I'm wondering if this item will enable me to hack things at Radar exploration sites, even before learning "Hacking 1"! Kind of cool.

Edited by: Zeya Chura on 09/10/2009 17:49:23 Found the answer to my own question, sorry: Linkage
"The Civilian Codebreaker is not permitted for sale on the Market, but you will get one for free by doing the Tutorial missions of the Business character path (Balancing the Books) or that of the Industrial character path (Making Mountains Out of Molehills). Has less than half the effectiveness of its Tech 1 cousins, but only requires Electronics level 1 to use. Unfortunately, it is only for use during the Tutorial missions - it will not pull items for you out of Hacking Exploration sites."

No, the Civilian Codebreaker can only be used in that one specific mission. It can't be used to open any real hacking container. ---

High sec radar sites look something like this: Local Serpentis Mainframe Local = high sec Serpentis = race of site (so you would probably see Gurista) Mainframe = Type of radar site (there are 8 or so) and generally have a 'computer' theme, whereas magnetometric will have names like Excavation.
When you warp to it you'll get (I don't guarantee all sites have these) a site specific message that looks something like this: Half-broken remnants of technology drift aimlessly throughout the vacuum; the end result of infighting, CONCORD raids or one of a thousand other common fates suffered by pirate outfits across the cluster. A codebreaker module will be invaluable in uncovering the secrets that are likely hidden here, locked away inside data vaults and semi-functional computerized networks.
Once inside the site you'll typically see a bunch of scenary (Large Collidable Objects, maybe some Large Collidable Structures): 1 Damaged Serpentis Info Shard, 6 LCO Serpentis Bunker, 12 LCO Serpentis Elevator, 6 LCO Serpentis Lookout
Lastly you'll see the hackable cans (sample loot drops included). Note that there may be some random varaition in the number of cans: 1 Serpentis Info Shard {1 Collision Measurements} 1 Serpentis Info Shard {1 Engagement Plan, 29 Second-hand Parts} 1 Serpentis Info Shard {0}
Lastly you may see pirate ships guarding the site, although this particular site doesn't have any.
