Edited by: Taedrin on 13/10/2009 00:01:23 EDIT: Come on folks, the OP isn't THAT long. He even went through the trouble of forming coherent paragraphs (not just throwing in random line breaks!)
People don't like carebears because they cluster in high sec/protected 0.0. This leaves low-sec virtually empty. The only people who live in low-sec are those looking for targets, as there is virtually no reason to live in low-sec BESIDES to have the opportunity to PvP.
Pirates are essentially complaining about a lack of targets. While this initially sounds selfish, this is actually quite important. Because there is a lack of targets, you have a high number of pirates hunting a small number of targets. If there were many more targets available, low-sec would be a safer place to live because carebears would (theoretically) have safety in numbers.
The Risk versus Reward argument is essentially saying that high sec is too profitable while low sec isn't profitable enough. I fit in this bunch, myself. I personally want to see high sec level 4's nerfed, and low sec missions/mining boosted. Specifically, I want low sec to be profitable enough that it is worth justifying the risk of losing a T2 fit mission running battleship to pirates on a weekly basis.
Akita T and Tippia's arguments about carebears killing EVE is quite simple. Missioning in high sec is boring. People who do nothing but run missions soon get bored of EVE and quit. This causes subscription numbers to dwindle, and thus harms EVE. On top of this, mission rewards and bounties are one of the few ISK "faucets" in the game, and have a direct influence on inflation. Thus carebears make things more expensive in the game. Interestingly enough, insurance ALSO generates ISK, so PvP also causes inflation too.
The people who want missions to be limited essentially want to see mission hubs "killed" by convincing players to spread out and inhabit the other locations of space. This would also make low sec mission running more appealing, as those areas are more dangerous. Those who are capable of surviving in low sec would potentially make a lot more money running missions in an uninhabited low sec station than those who pile into Motsu. ---------- There is always a choice. The choice might not be easy, nor simple, nor the options be what you desire - but, nevertheless, the choice is there to be made. |
