I posted this in the 'issues' section but no replies so I am sorry for reposting here, just looking for some advice.
Typically Eve runs flawlessly. I have the settings turned up high and it doesn't hiccup. When I switch to windowed mode though it runs a little choppy...even if I turn the settings down. Temperature of the card doesn't even get hot. I have more than enough hardware to run the game so if it's a performance issue why wouldn't I see it all the time? Especially when the settings are on high.
Thoughts?

Some more information would be nice. OS? System specs? actual framerate comparison?

I get this same issue, but it never happened until I upgraded to a widescreen LCD monitor from an old 17" CRT monitor. Used to be able to run 3 accounts on windowed mode with the old monitor, with the same nVidia graphics card. Dunno what would cause the choppiness because like with you, I run flawlessly on high settings at full screen, at 60fps, even with 2 accounts running. I have to alt tab between the accounts. =========================

On my laptop I get that choppiness in windowed mode, but not in FS mode. On my Desktop I never run full screen simply because I am always doing other things, but just switched up to FS on both running clients to test and had no problems with FS choppiness till I launched a third client. In windowed I get very little lag/choppiness in windowed with 3 clients.
OP I suspect it may simply be a driver issue. I suggest updating drivers (if you haven't) and see if there is any change. If you have recently updated drivers and are now getting this problem (and didn't before) then roll back your drivers to the previous set.
Other than the graphics card (I run a 512mb NVidia 9500GT card) Your hardware seems to be pretty similar to mine. ------------------------------------------------

I've tried different driver versions. Whats more surprising/disappointing is that us 3 have this issue, different makes of cards too. Hopefully some gmae support can shed some light.

Considering how many different cards, mainboards, drivers, bios, hardware configurations etc. out there that a game tries to support, it's really amazing any of them can be ran at all. ------------------------------------------------

This is nothing new, I get this since 2003!!
My theory is that some of the code that effects the frame refresh rate is not written in Assembler, so no matter how good your computer is, in windowed mode the calculations are made together with what ever is behind the window, slowing down the CPU, or at least giving it hick ups to allow process the apps behind the window.
In fullscreen all processor power is devoted to the main app.
Many FPS games, especially online ones, code the mouse input calculation in assembler so the CPU is directly fed with info and there is no delay caused by recalculation and compiling into the machine language, hence no aiming lag.

It's not really an issue per se. It's related to how Windows assign resources to multiple active windows. I don't claim to be an expert, but the gist of it is that your GPU/CPU time are divided evenly for each active window. You'll note the increased CPU util and temp for EVE windowed mode vs fullscreen.
Same experience here. Either live with it or live with alt-tabbing between fullscreens.

One thing that could possibly reduce the problem is to turn on v-sync. Go to the graphics options in game. Advanced Settings -> Present Interval -> Interval One.
One of the things this does is act like a frame rate limiter. This means that if the program is running in the background it won't try to use every possible cpu/gpu cycle (unless the limit is very close to what your computer can perform). ---------------------------------------- "Memories are meant to fade. Thanks Hoshi. This has fixed my problem. Running smoothly now, without any choppiness whatsoever in windowed mode. Hopefully it will help the others with this same problem. =========================

Edited by: HollowTips on 19/10/2009 03:14:33 o/ Hoshi, that did it :D Thanks a lot.
Too bad the Eve support team didn't suggest it, heh, maybe you should be a sub-contracter for them. Exchange advice for game time...seems fair.
Now if only I could figure out why I am getting the VPU recover errors...any thoughts?
