This happens to me all the time too. I always seem to get stuck behind someone who's never used a cash machine before. Also, whenever I go to the Post Office there is someone who's decided to pay all their monthly bills, or wanting to renew their car tax (I always get stuck behind people who've never done this before so they have loads of questions).

It's a common phenomenon, people space out when waiting in lines and once up to bat they're so far off their mark you might as well just have woken them from deep sleep.
Just do your bit as fast as humanly possible and put the slowpokes to shame.

I cannot stand people who use their card for everything; the whole reason I go to the cash point in the first place and get stuck in the situation the OP describes is because I don't want to spend that extra 30 seconds holding some guy up while I just either buy a crate of beer or at the ciggy stall getting some Embassy No.1

(lols  , honestly, the amount of times I've raged on the inside when someone pulls out a card to pay with (taking the 10 mins they would've at the cashpoint) as I'm standing behind them, with one item with exact change already counted out, ready to pay, after already queing outside at the cashpoint waiting for some dumb eejit to take 10 mins to get cash out, is INSANE -- ARRGHHRHRHHHHH).
And if they then stop for a bit of a natter with the checkout person. Blood vessels burst.
There we go.
All better now.
( ~ Give me a break, working 13 hours days every day means every free moment is like gold dust not to be wasted and lost on people being slow!)
I here by propose a solution. A new style of check out. Your run through with your one item and have to throw exact change into a bin as you sprint past. People blocking the way can be legally shot.
