So yeah not much else to do while I sit here and wait out my GCC, so I figured I'd make a thread, since I'm supposedly p. good at that or something.
Was cruising through lowsec in my Hyperion of Excellence and had just finished popping a BL3H Rokh. Went a few jumps over to Evati and saw a 2 month old char in a Maelstrom in a mission on scan, so I went back to the old standby of "Invite them to Fleet and Pray". This time it worked and I warped to the guy, and had to slowboat 21km across deadspace in my MWD Hyp. As I finished him off a Bastards Afterburner-fit Ishtar warped in. Being MWD fit myself in a deadspace and still not having replaced my drones from the BL3H Rokh, there wasn't much I could do against him.
I then got a chat invite from the Ishtar pilot.
Quote:
z0de > hi z0de > want to savethehype? Lexa Hellfury > o hai z0de > 80m to me and i let the hype go.
After a quick reference check
Quote:
Lexa Hellfury > do bastards honour ransoms? xXxDrAgOnWrAiThxXx1996 > yes Zedrik Cayne > Yes, never heard otherwise.
I decided to comply since there wasnt much I could do against an AB Ishtar in a Deadspace with no drones, 80m is a pretty good deal for a rigged Hyp and I really didn't feel like fitting a new one out with -4.0 sec status.
After I paid he held up his end of the bargain and let me go. Nice to see there's still people who make an "honest" living in lowsec piracy and hold up their end of bargains. Anyways, I think my GCC is finished now so o7.

We survive almost solely from ransom, loot sales and pure luck. Most of us don't run missions, trade, scam or GTC for our isk. My 400M isk is all from piracy. Piracy like this is hard but very enjoyable and we wouldn't want it any other way. Well, maybe an improvement in the d-scanner maybe....
We ransom first, gank second. KM comes quite low down on our list of what we seek from our targets.

Edited by: General Coochie on 20/10/2009 14:13:58 As a pirate corp that strives to sustain itself solely on piracy. No mission running alts, plexing or 0.0 ratting. We must make the most isk we can from PvP, this might mean we attack defenseless mission runners or that we run frig gangs instead of pimping our ships. Some ppl frown upon this, and we had our fair share of smack because of it. Truth is we are simply pirates making a living. For us its more important, challenging and more fun to earn our living like this then it is to PvE on our free time to fund pirating or PvPing. We always have been and always will be pirates, we are investing into pirating long term and intend to keep earning our upkeep by pirating for years to come, investing in it by keeping a good reputation.
The most isk to be had is from ransoms. The best way of getting a ransom is to have a reputation thats backing you up to honor it.
We worked hard for 2 years to establish ourselves as an honorable pirate corp (if there is such a term).
z0de earning those 80mill today and this post proves that keeping a good reputation is healthy for any pirates wallet and that our hard work is paying off.
One of our corp members has setup a ransom board where we post all our ransoms. Its fairly new but you can find it on our KB if you click the ransoms tab.

(2) Most all pirates honor ransoms. It's just the few random people that don't that get the publicity and give the impression that we don't.
EDIT: Fixed my spelling because I r bad speller. -----

Only three?
I hope more people see this thread, we've had far too many people refusing ransoms recently because they don't trust pirates in general.
Take this guy for example: http://the-bastards.com/kb/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=12983
He said he had no money to pay a ransom, so I offered him 70 mil to eject. His choices were pretty clear. Lose the ship and get the paltry t2 insurance payout, or lose the ship (with guaranteed safety of his pod) and get 70 mil. I know which one I would have chosen - but he decided to question our honesty and declined the offer.

This should be pretty clear by now. The Bastards get a significant portion of their money from ransoms. They always honor them. ________________________________________ A merry life and a short one shall be my motto. Bartholomew Roberts

Good to see some proper pirates getting bigged up for a change. Sons of 0din also always honour ransoms. We dont always ransom, but we will honour it if we offer it.
Glad to see real piracy is still alive and kicking.

Can I join your Tinfoil Hat Brigade corp? I heard it's part of the Cynic's Club Alliance, but I don't believe it.

I made the mistake of wondering into one of these guys just running around low sec. He made short work of my ship, was able to point my pod, and offered a ransom. He was very pleasant, and made the extortion seem like a transaction between friends. I questioned him about paying and then getting podded and stated that not honoring the ransom would get him booted from the corp. These guys are good and honorable. Unfortunatly I know that from first hand experience.

Not cool guys, that was just between us. Talk about being used.
Rock: Thanks for the post, I was expecting a mission fit and really didn't think I could break the tank solo hence the lack of space bar use and rushed ransom. I'm usually much more pleasant. Hope you stop by evati again. á á

Hey! I'm p.poor really. All my isk goes on incursususes and plex.
First time I went to low sec (eghellende) I had my Iteron II WTFPWNED by Tiller. I probably got podded too. Think I was doing trade runs and took a risk on low sec. "ZOMG low sec is full of gatecamps and griefers don't go there QQ". This was like 4 years ago btw when I played carebear online.
First time I went to low sec for solo pvp (eghellende again) I ganged up with someone after asking for a 'fair fight for my Heron', warped to and unsurprisingly got pwned by his Incursus, escaped in my pod but hadn't dropped gang so he caught me. That lesson in how not to be stupid cost me 20m isk.
I love you stupid laser Heron. ----

Thats a pretty good idea there. If I had I wouldn't go public with it. But ransoming Verone would be pretty epic I guess.
And if I did have verone locked down I much rather try and ransom then kill him.
That goes for any famous or infamous eve person. Got Cooch?, solo PvP movie

And if you ever ransom me just remember I supported you during your Gallente Citizen7065498 period ♥

I think all the pirates in any big organisation (IE Bastards, Python, Hellcats, TGA etc) will honour ransoms. It's the small 'griefer' corps who seem to be a bit more... trigger happy!
