If my PvP character ganks your character's hulk then your character can hunt them down and gank them back, wardec their corp, hire mercenaries to spank them daily for the next four years, hate them forever, etc. You have plenty of "accountability" options available to you. But what you want is the ability to reach through the screen and punish me. This confusion between in-game and out-of-game is common, but that doesn't excuse it. Trying to eliminate multiple accounts so you can justify treating me as my character isn't a solution, it's crippling my game for your convenience.
Ever heard what happened to the Band of Brothers alliance? One dude destroyed the works of hundread of players, years of gameplay just gone (estimated to 10 000 USD). Where does the line of "it's just my character, not me" can be drawn? Some people do invest a lot of time and money playing this game, and some players just enjoy wreaking the fun of others especially because there is no real way to hurt them back. Don't tell me about wardecs and bounties, they don't hurt at all when you can keep playing with an alt until the dust settle down, or sell that character and let someone else deal with it. Everyone has right to their fun, not just the one who want to be bad and mean.
I like to always think that at the end of the day, its a video game. If you're spending lots of time working to make isk, etc, and treating it like work and not deriving enjoyment from it, then you're doing it wrong. Eve also demands that you're willing to defend what's yours and not **** everyone off. BoB died, in the end, because they were no longer willing to vigorously defend themselves (sov 4 and cyno jammers are important, but so is the ability to put a fleet together) and because they had few, if any, good friends in game. Sure, goons had a "naptrain", but that's evidence that having and making friends in game is actually worthwhile and meaningful.
Oh, by the way, if you take into account all the BoB POS destroyed and cap fleets wrecked, the total amount destroyed was about $200,000 at then-current GTC conversion rates.
