Simple as that. What whould be advantages of low sec vs empire space. Little about me. 7.5 M SP pilot with 2.1 mil in gunnery ( Amarr ), Spaceship Command at 2.24 mil and req skillz to lvl5. ( like engineering lvl 5 ) or should I wait until ship skillz pull up some more. Frigates at 5 so is Cruisers at 5, BCs are 3 and BS at 4. Rest at 1 or 2. So maybe wait up before emersing myself with low sec adventure. I train toward PVP side of it. No indy. I know that I dont have to go into low sec at all. But I want to. Because if u think about it, empire might be more profitable. On the other hand low sec is more fun. |

Pirating is never really profitable. What you will gain is a more exciting aspect of eve though. Depending on the pirate corp that is.... You will learn more in a short run of PvP than in years of PvE. thecardchest.com Gamer Greeting Cards! |

This. And only this. Make no mistake, its all about the violence, the tears, knowing you beat another pilot, knowing he is beating his keyboard as is tears fall, wondering if he should send you hate mail.
Lowsec is violent, unpredictable and the most dangerous place Eve has to offer. 0.0 folks will disagree, shaking their heads, and checking their nap list to make sure they still have 5000 blues. Empire wardecc corps will disagree while they gatecamp a hauler using battleships.
The reason we are lowsec pirates is because we want that unpredictability, we want he danger, sometimes we will kill haulers at gatecamps yes, but alot of the time we are fighting other outlaws who also love the danger.
The day a pirate starts counting his booty, he just becomes a common thief.

What does lowsec piracy have to offer? A very addictive adrenaline rush. Solo or small-gang PVP is, in my opinion, the most fun this game has to offer (though I recognize that this is a personal decision).
PVP in nullsec is often large-fleet action; if you're unlucky enough to be called a target, you die in moments--otherwise you're pretty safe. When the FC calls a target, you're lucky if you can lock him and engage your weapons before he pops. Plus, there's issues trying to get people away from mining and ratting (where the ISK is) to PVPing.
And no, don't wait to find out for yourself. In fact, that would be a mistake. You can PVP just fine right now, with T1 frigates--and should, even if you're capable of flying more formidable ships just as skillfully. What you wanna do, and this is said a lot around here, is grab a bunch of T1 frigates (10-30) and the modules to fit them, and take them down to lowsec with the intention of losing them all learning PVP. The things you need for effective PVP ISK can't buy--you pay with experience.
Along these lines, I'm pleased to point out that the Tuskers have re-opened recruiting in support of expanding to a new region. However, there are any number of fine lowsec pirate corps in which you would probably do well.
Good hunting!

PvP in low sec =/ pirating.
Anyway. Pirating is a choice of how to play this game. If you want to do the most profitable look another way cause pirating is not it. You can make isk pirating, even a lot, its simply not the most profitable thing you can do. If you want to be self sufficient only by PvP and player interaction pirating might be for you.

Thank you for pointing that out. Alot of people think just because they roam around low sec and fight people, means they are pirating. Not.

Pirating is pvp for profit. Generally it isn't very profitable compared to other activities and you will lose more than you gain when you start. This is because of a lack of experience. No amount of SP will save you from losing a lot of ships when you start out. There are a few ways you can go, as an amarr spec'd character with frig 5 and cruiser 5 (and **** for everything else) I recommend you fly one of those two. The amarr have horrible t1 cruisers so those are a no go, t2 frigs are the same.
Despite these short commings, the punisher is a pretty good little t1 frigate. Slap an AB, scrambler and a plate on it and you've got a nice sturdy solo frigate. It lacks a web but makes up for that in just raw armor and gun range. You should of course fit pulses.
Though the t1 amarr cruisers maybe garbage you should definitely look at their recons. Both the curse and the pilgrim are extremely capable if used properly. I won't go into fittings on them here but in a nutshell, the pilgrim flies almost exclusively with a scrambler and fights within 10km, the curse on the other hand hangs out at 20km typically. Both fit a single TD with a tracking speed script (pilgrim) or a range script (curse).
If you have t2 medium energy turrets then you should look into training up your BC skill. The harbinger is possibly the single best general purpose low sec pirating ship in the game. It's got pretty good damage, full tackle with a speed mod and cap injector. It is also one of the toughest BC's in the game. A full t2 fitted and trimarked harb costs less than 50M isk to lose as well after insurance which beats the hell out of losing an uninsurable 140M isk pilgrim. -----------------------------------------------------

So it is going to be an adventure into the unknown. Yes, Recon at 5 whould have been nice tho. So best scenario is pulse - Harb then. Thank you for yr time giving advice. |

Edited by: Lars Lodar on 24/10/2009 15:49:04 I've lived in 0.0 and in empire and I have to say that low sec piracy is the most fun to be had in EVE. Especially with the Python Cartel.
Coincidentally we have started up the Python Academy for young pilots such as yourself to learn the finer art of piracy while having fun. It's a month long temp corp with lessons 5 days a week taught by seasoned veterans such as myself. It's only 10 million isk which includes a dozen fitted frigates for pvp action.
Classes start in a week so apply now!
As much as Amarr cruisers suck, with a little bit of training a laser thorax is pretty sexy.

I know that laZor thorax are awesome but... I want to train up learning skillz to 5. All 11 learning skillz I mean. Then BC5, cap skillz 5 and then just maybe will cross-train Gal on my toon. So the problem is in that I need a lot more skillz to do anything useful in low sec. Unless ofcourse I am a member of a pack and we employ zerg tactics. So i am going forward into low sec anyway, will be lots of fun!! Thank u for responses ya all! Anyone else got anything else?

You should re-read the above posts regarding not waiting for skills etc.
So far you have BC 3, which you can get to 4 easily. A BC is generally pretty effective at level 4, and best ofc at level 5, but you don't have to wait to get level 5 to fly it. When you say 'a lot more skills', what do you mean exactly? As long as you can t2 fit your ship + have decent support skills, you'll be as good as almost 90% of the pilots out there in that ship (not including the 10% who trained up to all level 5). But that doesn't mean you can't be effective in t1/named stuff.
Just go out there in frigates, learn from those, move on up into bigger ships as you get more confident.
Also, it's skills, not skillz

Well you really don't need all skills at lvl 5. getting the advanced skills at lvl 4 won't make much of a difference while saving you months of training which can best be put towards pvp skills.
At any rate you should check out the Python Academy. Will be a great way to get a jump start into your life of piracy.

Not in every case... I personaly look for the 30+ million SP Empire pilots to fight. I have no time for noobs in disposable t1 garbage. If people are dumb enough to undock a hauler or barge during a war of course it going to be shot at. For us it's all about catching good stand up fights. This is impossible in low sec where you will just get gang banged by neutrals 9 times out of 10.

Lars, thorax, kite and armor pumps does not compute to me. You'll be the slowest ship around?
I rather have less ehp and more speed. Go aux thrusters and you need not worry about any ruptures with their 3 ambit riggs - out kiting you. Got Cooch?, solo PvP movie

True that. I'm not sure what I was thinking. I redid the fit and I like it much better. The extra 700m/s will add much more to the survivability than the extra EHP.

One problem with the low-sec pirate pvp is that it will make it difficult to try other parts of the game once you get a very low security status and can't go to empire.
That being said, it seems like a fair number of pirates that I see in low sec seem to be able to keep their security rating up.
I don't know how they do it except for maybe ratting like crazy while between the attacks giving them security hits.
I'm not suggesting that you'll ever want to be a care-bear, but being able to buy ships in Jita, or perhaps being able to join a high sec griefer or mercenary corp might also be attractive to you and getting your security standing back up high enough might really be tedious.
That might be enough to start your pvp in some of the other ways suggested above.
I'm not sure, but my experiences with low-sec pvp is that there really aren't that many targets other than other pirates and i'd say the majority of those pirates are mega skilled and often have friends at hand.
Denifitely join a corp that will help point you the right way and I'd think strongly about one that had a strategy for you to learn ganking pvp while keeping your sec standing up.

It's not much of an issue if you wanted to go white. Few days at most, even with just ratting in low-sec.
That said, pirate with SS above -5 is usually in a washing process, is new to piracy or is just not trying hard enough. One might guess that there're not so many people enjoying ratting sec up...

For a long time in my eve life, not on this toon alone, but on my old main to. I have been an empire dweller, being into privateers when they started out, being a highsec gankbear and griefer.
A month and half ago I joined a pirate corp to try out low sec life. The big plus above 0.0, is that you can join in stuff right after you loggin, you play for 2 hours, you play for 2 hours, your not stuck in a gang like in 0.0 20 jumps from home.
Its very dangerous, their is alot of big blobs trying to bait you, cyno drop you, claim your bounty, it keeps you on your toe. On the other hand, you can get very good fights, good ganks also. Its fun all around.

An alternative to lowsec piracy is 0.0 piracy or life in NPC controlled regions such as Curse, Syndicate, etc. In 0.0 you do not lose security status, you get to experience game mechanics to their fullest, and there is no half-protection by NPCs (sentry guns). Many people join the biggest baddest alliance out there or some boring renter alliance that is interested only in grinding ISK, then they are stuck flying in large fleets all the time, but to say that this is what all 0.0 is like is an overgeneralization. I'd suggest you try out both.
