Edited by: Dark Shikari on 31/10/2004 22:55:32 Edited by: Dark Shikari on 31/10/2004 22:53:06 Throughout the history of EVE, great alliances have risen and fallen. And now that I'm back after 4 months away from EVE--I notice something--there are too many alliances! What used to be just a couple in the Venal region has exploded and now there are new alliances all over. So here's my question: which one dies next?
Honestly it seems like FA may be the next major alliance to go--while they are still powerful they seem far weaker than in the days when m0o laid siege to YZ-LQL and they are losing allies every day it seems (at least BoB is back with them however)... but what really scares me is SA and CA. Both are now the most powerful alliances and they almost seem to be circling over FA like vultures... -- The best description of alliances, ever:

fa isnt goin to be the nxt alliance to go, imo thier superior shiva preparedness will once shiva hits make them the most powerfull alliance, ca putting the 20% tax in place is a start for shiva but w/many corps leaving over it they r far behind, sa well the last thing they needed before shiva to hit was the fighting w/celest which hampers thier shiva fund not to mention the constant attacks from ca. xetic has been hit hard by the ca invasions and for extended periods of time not having controll of immensea region, though since before ca they had nvr had ne wars so they r very rich shiva will only make thier power grow. pa isnt gonna find shiva very fun. tps will stay at same power as they hav no full on wars goin. nsa/fu might feel some pressure from the pb pirates but they dont hav the numbers to do ne significant dmg to them. norad they rnt doin to good from internal issues but they hav no alliance wars so they shouldnt be hurting to badly from outside sources its within they should be warry of. jqa theyre jst chillin gettin richer and richer not needing player owned stations cuz theres stations in all thier systems shiva wont pose as much ofa threat to them as ne other givin alliance.
all in all the most powerfull alliances imo once shiva comes round will be: 1) fa 2) sa/xetic 3) c4/ca 4) tps 5) fu 6) nsa 7) jqa 8) norad

I actually think there arent enough allainces. Big allainces are all well and good but it makes for a less intresting political map.
IMO it would be more fun if each and every region was controled by a different allaince. There would be more wars and probably smaller blobs. TBH an allaince doesnt really need more than 1 region anyway most of the space is never used, even with the POS in shiva an alliance is unlikely to use all its available space.

FA, SA and CA are here to stay for good I think, most likely Xetic as well. Their only weakness is falling apart from the inside.
The alliances in the north on the other hand are smaller and are alot more likely to fall through outside forces and ofcorse falling apart from the inside is still a possibility.

Well here's what I see... if SA/CA decide to minimize their own fighting while going after FA... I don't think FA's allies will stay with them... and FA will die. -- The best description of alliances, ever:

POS are gona be important but I dont think people realize how vulnerable they will be. You get a squad of 20 BS and that things gone in 45 min or less. Might lose 1...maybe 2 BS to its defenses. Not a bad deal considering a full POS will be a lot more than 200mil to build and maintain.

as i recall, they have backup services or whatever after it taken down all the way, that keep the POS up until it is replenished, which can last for quite a long time. ---------------

Edited by: Celticjim on 01/11/2004 00:55:04 This is just spec, but given importance on economics, if any of the purely "manufacturing/mining/trade" corps with a large wallet join with a competent pvp group, it could lead to some interesting possibilities.
There would be issues to hash out between the structural components of the corps, but if it could be rectified....it might lead to EveJunkie's wish to have more alliances in game.
Unfortunately, I don't really know of any concrete examples

I think people severely underestimate the wallet size of the bigger and established pvp corporations out there.
I also think those corporations don't mind that at all.

Good point but for certain regions its benificial to claim them IMO take tenal region, crap ore not much there of interest BUT the only access are through venal/branch.
Now lets say PA/BOB dropped all claims to tenal and just claimed venal/branch both operate a close border policy (?) and mr joe blog wants to make tenal his new home as no one claims it.
Mr Joe blogg would have to travel through venal/branch to arrive at his new home so he would face being shot at by more ppl then normal as a neutral, also maybe making the claimers of venal/branch go to war with them and shoot them out side of venal/branch.
So it makes sence for PA/BOB to claim tenal along with venal/branch but other wise yup more alliances would be good IMO. Alt of juduzz |

FA are small, they only hold 1 region (discounting the cfs issue which is still up in the air).
If left alone they tend to keep themselves to thereselves, discounting the station issue in cfs space which i think was more of a "oh I want a staion" issue by the corps concerned rather than a FA policy
The FA have no dreams of world domination, they are the most frendly allience to outsiders (in that they at least will actully alow peeps into there space, all be it at a cost, to take advantage of the s****s in the area) untill recently they were the only allience to do so that controlled a "closed" area. most still dont.
FA are in principle a anti pirate allience (ye there are EX see the keyword there) EX-pirates pirates in some of the corps but they all have ceased there pirate activitys, and as such u are ALOT more likly to get ganked as a "innocent bystander" by FA than by the CA or PA etc etc.
G enrally most alliences just wana e left alone with the CA allience being a exception. The CA r the most aggresive allience ingame, they also the biggest.
Make no mistake its CA that are the biggest threat to most of eve and there vocalness on the forums in spreading propaganda against the FA distracts against there own power, and twists peoples opinion into the way they want it.
Just FYI the internal CA boards links virtully every main forum page they find thats a good properganda opo, so that others can add there usall BS to it
The alliences i forsee being around forever r
CA SA FA PA (with a name change or 6 ) Whatever entity EVOL r in at the time
Those i doubt will dissapear
NORAD XETIC NSA (possibly)
If any of the above do break up tho, id thing itd be a name change and a few alteration to the member list anyways.

some of your points are dead wrong. FA while having a smaller "claimed region" arent exactly small I've seen some very large blobs... Nor are they just sitting there minding thier own biz.
Also Id like to know which CA fourms you read. While yes, you will see someone post about a thread. You are exagerating greatly.

IMO it would be more fun if each and every region was controled by a different allaince. There would be more wars and probably smaller blobs. TBH an allaince doesnt really need more than 1 region anyway most of the space is never used, even with the POS in shiva an alliance is unlikely to use all its available space.
Me agrees with dude from EVOL...and then thumps head against desk .
I agree with what you are saying though...and we may actually see this happen. If the promised changes to 0.0 happen IMHO you're going to see a massive rethink on territory control by the current alliances.
Then again...when you look at other MMO's, a lot of them divide down the narrow 2 political lines...meaning there ends up being 2 major alliances. Think how boring ass Eve would be if there were only 2 major alliances claiming half of Eve space and constantly at war for some lame reason or another .

The only way for Xetic to fall would be the following things to happen...
Solar Wind & Omega Corp hug each other and let by gones be by gones. Tyrell corp get heavily medicated and accidentaly sign a peace treaty with whole of CA. Trigger & XirtamVOTF have a baby together. Zelota & Bared take typing instructions and fall in love.
Hmm... after reading this again, there just might be a snowballs chance in hell. What do you think?
Allways move fast, you never know who's catching up!

Currently game mechanics (NPC stations, high insurance etc) makes it extremely difficult to destroy anyone. The only way to kill of a decent corporation or alliance is by internal division which MAY be caused by massive demoralization. However, there are many battle hardened corps out there that are immune to this. You will not see Evolution, Omega corp, MASS or CLS giving up on their ideals quickly regardless of losses.
Shiva will hopefully change this. Once war gets more expensive, winning will be more attainable.

To be honest, there will never be a simple, or somehow achievable way of destroying someone. Why? Because winners dont pay double rates to CCP. If one looses everything to another player, he can leave the game as he doesnt have anything more to play with, hence he wont pay, and he doesnt enjoy the game.
At current state only gaming 24/7, roaming around enemy space, killing all ships , all mining ops and sending a hunting group to empire can somehow alter one corps/alliance stance. But there are also 'symphatising' corps that will provide the influx of credits into others wallet. So even if you try hard, you wont 'win' anything. You cant 'check-mate' anyone in eve, all you can do is annoy him and waste your own time doing so, instead of having real fun ;] But then, some may find amusement in chasing ghosts, or playing private eye ;]
The only real scheme of breaking an alliance is the outflux of players due to boredom/other games, along with severe internal conflicts. Other than that, you can only shoot some ships, and then go brag on forums 'carebear miners in empire blah blah blah', and then carebears come back, and shoot back, and some1 goes to mining again, depending who had the upper hand. Never ending circle ;] -- Portfolio (currently .PL only) - nestor.art.pl

This is the attitude that players need to get over to let CCP impliment a way of destroying someone. To feel achievements you also have to feel loss. Currently you can't achieve a great deal so that is driving as many from the game as players who lose stuff. If tomorrow any player in the game with over 3-6 Months experience was to lose everything baring their skills, how long would it take for them to recover?
Well not sure how resourseful anyone else is but I wouldn't think no more than a day to be combat effective and Month to be completely back on their feet. So is there any real big loss no.
What we need is ways to see player groups be ousted from regions due to persistent loss's. A way to see a man beaten until he owns nothing but the Pod he flys in.
We have to release ourselves from the chain to (pseudo)material items and look past that for more of an experience. How is 1 billion isk in your wallet different to 1 isk? Its fun we need and if to lose something and return from the ash's is one of the ways then so be it.

If an alliance's space is completely taken, and they have no friends to adopt them, IMO they are pretty much destroyed (as in an alliance like FA, SA, CA, etc). But as you said some of those corps will NEVER give up, and will probably forge their own alliances. -- The best description of alliances, ever:

Surely such things as -
Forcing an alliance to leave its declared home. Forcing an alliance to remain safespotted/logoff in their own territory for the large majority of their time...
...count as victories?
I mean, if an alliance cant roam freely in its own declared space for the most part, then surely they cant defend the area and have no claim to it, thus meaning they have been defeated.
The alliance can still remain intact and make a new home elsewhere, but to physically force an alliance to move from their current home must constitute as a win.
But in terms of actually destroying an alliance, that can never be won by simply using the gun placed in your hand, theres the whole psychological aspect to defeating an opponent, that actually accomplishes defeat. The guns simply help fuel this type of attack.

StA is almost dead, and will die, yes.
Alliances that will be here to stay, no matter what - Curse Alliance - Military power that no other single entity in the game - or even two - can stand up to. Morale is very high, and they thrive on fighting - only caring about ISK when they don't have enough to fight. Stain Alliance - Strong military, strong economy, great geographically. Coalition of Free Stars - Willpower. May be beaten down at the moment, but they'll be back. Its a thing that happens in phases.
Fountain will fall if put under any significant pressure for a period of a few months. FA isn't strong enough in terms of military to withstand it - making ISK is what they thrive on, if they are depreived on that for a while, they will fall. Hard.
XETIC same. CA hasn't ever put significant pressure on them for more than 2/3 weeks. With 2 months XF would collapse.
Pheonix Alliance is only holding onto its territory for a third of the day unfortunately, I don't see a long future if it keeps up.
BoB will fall apart as soon as EVOL gets bored and starts killing the other BoB corps.
FU will fall apart with any more military pressure than it is taking now.
NSA... Same.
NORAD is almost dead now.
TPS will live on, under different names perhaps, but it will.
DSMA is dying, will fall with prolonged military pressure.
As for CA and SA... A Xanadu member made my opinions on this very clear with a screenshot of an internal CA post I am for an alliance of sorts. I see it happening, just not yet... And I see the fall of FA. --------

Honestly I think after shiva, alliance wars are going to change a great deal. Especially if people take full advantage of the alliance system. Since it won't just be fighting in 0.0 anymore, it will be all out fighting no matter where they are even in empire. Which will of course lead to more decisive ways to destroy or force an alliance to surrender. Then again, for that matter, it will be a hell of a lot more rare to see any corp declare war on a corp that is an alliance. At least without getting pounded on by the other members of that alliance.
Mostly from what I've seen, a few peoples predictions are probably right.
CA and Xetic/IF will probably be around for quite a long time.
As far as The alliances in Deklain and Fade(cant remember names), they would probably already be dead if Evol and friends weren't tied up fighting us. I'm guessing I could probably add Norad to that list as well.
PA, well, what can I say about having had to fight 3 regional alliances, 2 major pirate/nomad corps, and their friends at one time? I wouldn't count the Phoenix out quite yet, as there is that one thing about Phoenix's. I know no matter what I'm gonna give BoB hell regardless, and if I'm goin to hell I'm taken some with me.
Fountain has a big advantage, which will help them greatly after shiva comes out. And that is the fact that their region is easy to defend, since it only has 3 entrances, as well as one of those being as easy route to empire space. I doubt BoB and friends will attack them, not unless something silly happens again. Since many fountain corps have Evol and friends at good standings.
I can't think of anything else to add here, so I'll shut up now.

Hmmm. Time will tell.

The SA vs CA grudge thing is sort of exagerated.
Don't know about the rest of you, but I've yet to see a dose of any smacktalking or namecalling from either side. Matter of fact, its the most friendly "hostility" I've ever witnessed. ______________________

Very true. It goes like this.
1. Hey, hows it going? Great! 2. *gets down to business, shoots each other to death* 3. Hey, nice battle man... get any good loot?

The Curse Alliance military is probably the most overrated entity in the whole of Eve bar none, mostly thanks to the same striving propagandists that pursue to the neverending task of keeping their own alliance morale up. Is there actually any alliance / corporation in Eve aside from CFS and Xetic that has not humiliantingly defeated the CA fleets whenever they wanted to?
I mean props and all to you guys for your amazing ability to fabricate a totally alternate Eve universe for the board posting purposes, while making it sound like you actually believe what you post.. you guys are so good at it, that its almost scary

CA has never lost an engagement, ever. Occassionaly we move to spots, that are NOT safespots, and then we warp in and destroy entire fleets with our superior tactics and military might. This is fact! Look it up. We have never even received an eve-mail from CONCORD. We don't even ensure our ships anymore. We don't even know what insurance is.

and for those that do not know this, the moment of truth for JQA is coming up these days as CA have started to move big fleets up to syndicate

All kidding aside. Theres only 2 things that will be certain SA and CA will be around. Out of all the alliances they have been around the longest. Whether or not the other alliances stay together these 2 will remain alive and well. The war between us is more of a habit and great respect for each other. Will we see an end to the longest war in EVE history? Maybe for a time. Its more of an act of chivalry for SA and CA to fight at this point. We have lots of fun doing it. And the favor of getting blown up is returned to both sides.
What does this mean? SA and CA will exist forever in EVE unless an act of God causes both of them to implode from the inside. Both CA and SA have been down on their luck and both have returned from it. Even from recent fleet battles how many alliances are willing to take fleets of 80+ on both sides and engage each other.. Its happened more than once during this war. Both alliances were met and recognized by the Jove. Both alliances have been in the news.
CA and SA are filled with great people who are willing to fight together and to keep each alliance alive. I salute CA for keeping the game fun and having fun.

Well theres a little bit missing there within the first month or 2. CA and SA were founded. Maybe not in the same sense they are today. I remember quite well some of my former corp mates sitting in Serpentis Prime killing rats all day long before Fountain even existed. This was before Battleship sized weapons were out and the Battleships were just released. If i remember correctly SA and CA were around and kicking by this point and m0o was making major statements across EVE. I think CA and SA have been around a bit longer.
*EDIT* When I joined stain the game was only 7 to 8 months old. And from that point SA and CA had been fighting for at least 4 months. And the battleships were released after what month and a half to 2 months after release?? Fountain didnt exist by that point as i stated above. Most of 0.0 was open free space. With relatively low security risks. So somewhere in the time that SA and CA started fighting and battleships were release CA and FA were formed as of the exact dates very few know. I know that back in the old days there was the Curse Alliance and the Curse Coalition. We had tried to get into CA but they turned us down and shot us and we applyed to get into SA. The alliances did exist but not by the formal names that they do now. Any way you look at it SA and CA are gonna be around till the game dies.

SA has yes but CA hasn't, FA has been around a lot longer than CA. Don't post stuff you're not sure of, it's awfully bad form and does your credibility no good.
Well theres a little bit missing there within the first month or 2. CA and SA were founded. Maybe not in the same sense they are today. The Curse Alliance was formed with the return of Sinister to Curse, after fleeing from the War it started with the Fountain Alliance who back then included Evolution. That is the entire reason why FA / Evol became hostile to Curse.
So basically yes, Curse is pretty much the youngest of the "Big Alliances". __________________________________________

And I see the fall of FA.
ya know, i started to make a long speech about how you really have no clue about the northern alliances, but i kinda like being underestimated
