So I was scanning stuff down around Rashy about two days ago and I came up on a Sansha command relay outpost, 3/3 DED rated. Jackpot, I said to myself, since i'm a newbie scanner and this was my second ever DED site.
I go in, clear the first pocket in its entirety, grab the key from the command guy and warp to the second pocket. There my poor caracal with low skills cannot take the damage, so I warp out with my armor barely touched(those heavy missile turrets REALLY hurt). Fix my ship, warp back to the bookmark I had planted on the entrance and there was nothing there except for the wrecks of the rats I killed in the first pocket.
First thing that crossed my mind was that the site probably despawns if you touch it. Is this correct?
Also, does this happen for every DED site? meaning, is this policy of "shouldn't start what you can't finish" a general one? I tried looking the matter up on the wikis but I couldn't find any mention of this despawning, except for wormhole space sites...obviously different category.

I have forgotten to bookmark a wreck a few times and went back with salvager only to find everything poof disappeared. I think as long as you don't trigger any events (ie you don't fire on anything, if you just warp in, take a look, warp out) then it doesn't despawn. I've warped in and back out without locking a few times on sites (wasn't in my combat ship) and the site would be there when I came back.

It's usually (for combat plexes) if you kill any triggers/overseers/commanders, then you can't warp out and expect the site to remain there.
For magneto/radars if you start hacking a can, you can't warp out and expect the site to remain there.
In both cases, having a covops alt/others to sit in the site will hold the site open.

As far as I'm aware if you warp out of a DED rated plex, having used the acceleration gate in, it will depswan. I don't know whether this is dependant on shooting any of the spawns or not. However, you can warp out of non DED rated combat sites without them despawning.

This is incorrect - I did a DED 5/10 plex on sunday where I warped out of it several times (including forced warp out due to immenent down time). I solo'd everything bar the final tower which ended up requiring me to recruit 4 friends to finish it off thanks to its obscene regen. I left the 7 room plex (and even the system it was in) a number of times when I was soloing due to needing to repair armour, empty loot and restock on ammo.

Edited by: Xentara Vispari on 28/10/2009 15:33:08 Once I had an exploration. In the 3rd step I warped to a site with about 90 cruisers / battle cruisers, divided into four groups. I didn't touch anything and warped out to get a bigger ship.
When coming back, the site already had despawned, although the exploration timer still had 22+ hours left. I wrote a petition about this and got the following answer: each site has a completion trigger. If the site is marked completed, and the last player leaves the site, the site will despawn within a few seconds. One of the simplest completion triggers is: a player arriving at a site (which was the case with my exploration site). So it all depends on the completion trigger of the site.
When running missions you will see it in the mission log, if you completed the site. For other sites there is no way to tell, if they are already completed or not.

So...there is no telling if a site will despawn on warp out? Is it random? Because I have found about 2 or 3 serpentis ded rated 3/10 sites, killed stuff in it, destroyed the buildings, killed ALL overseers...then came BACK to salvage the overseers.
Random poofing is random, right? Thank you very much for your feed back.

The site (collidable structures, ...) disappears independently of the wrecks inside it.

A site will despawn when you warp out if you have already triggered the "site completion" event. It varies from mission to mission (and exploration site to exploration site) what the trigger is, but it is never "random".

Sorry, I don't know what I'm on about. This only applies to exploration stuff. Normal mission "dungeons" don't de-spawn until you turn the mission in.
