I have always heard that goonswarm is #1. But then I heave heard that if Against ALL Authorities invaded them, goonswarm would run and hide. So which alliance is the strongest in the game. say alliance then powerbloc.

As far as combat effectiveness goes I think Pandemic Legion and Cry Havoc are some amazing pilots. I can't stress how careful you have to be around them because they will leap on mistakes in about 10 seconds and tear you apart.
Second place is rather muddy, because there are a lot of good alliances out there that know what they are doing. Morsus Mihi, Atlas Alliance, Against ALL Authority, and the list goes on. They have the numbers and the will to throw down on a large scale. One may be better at implementing a strategy, others at tactical maneuvering, but all in all you are dealing with good fighters.
At the bottom of the list are the Alliances that blow hard talk big but have not brought it.
The other way to look at it is by pure combat power. And the Northern Coalition as a whole and the Altas/AAA groups are the ones to beat. I'm not saying that Pandemic Legion are slouches or any worse, but they just lack the pure numbers to keep the pressure one.
The eastern coalition (Shadow of, Legion of, Solar Fleet, Solar Wing) and to some extent Goonswarm seem to be in the buisness of "numbers solve everything" and ocasonally they do. But when they don't its bad. But the most important thing is that you need to remember that unless you are flying Amarr laser boats, you will run out of ammo eventually.
In closing, I have a lot of respect for any alliance that has the guts to play in this big arena, no one should ever take the enemy they are facing lightly.
