So I've read over the sticky'd guide, so I have an idea of what I'm doing. I'm mainly trained in combat skills right now (Though all my Learnings are trained up as well), so I'm really starting fresh here.
I currently have mining training to IV, and will be taking Minmatar Industrial to IV after that finishes. I already had Cruisers trained, so I'm just using a Scythe to mine right now. My question is, is getting into Manufacturing worth it? Or would I be better off just focusing on Mining? I'm planning on training towards Hulks for now, but I'm not really sure what my main goal is right now. I'm not even really sure what to do with all the Veld I'm already starting to get either.
Really, I'm just trying to get a handle on what I should be planning ahead for

Generally speaking you will be better off training in one direction at a time. It is better to be decent in either then mediocre in both. Manufacturing is light on your skills (you really need only Production Efficiency V and some Mass Production) but heavy on cash - the BPOs cost money to purchase and research. Above all you have to think hard about what to produce and where to sell. Mining has slower start and requires more skills, but once you get to Retriever you should be making decent money. It is awfully boring, but compared to manufacturing it is a real no-brainer. Nobody ever lost money by mining Veldspar

You'll make more money running level 4 missions. Then buy the mats you need to make what you want and sell for a profit. --
Nothing is worthless, you may have gotten it for free but it still has an inherent value

Always wondered about the reaction of ninja looters and can flippers when they decide to do something else and get ninjaed and flipped by someone else...
Anyway go to eve-guides.com, there's *video clips* about many things, it should help. - Auditing and consulting

Quick manufacturing guide
in other words: too many folks considering "da minerals i mine are free!!!111" so they sell for a stupid price.
As everyone and his dog can do T1 manufacture, its near to impossible to avoid moronity on T1 markets. Then you have T2, less competitors = more chances on make a profit. Small, but sometimes worth and fun.

The only thing I'd chage is.... just reprocess the unnamed loot into whatever you need to make what you want. No reason to buy materials when you can pull cargo holds full of loot that reprocesses into mass quantities of minerals.
I fit up a Maiestrom as an "ubber" non-industrial miner, without wasting too many sp on my otherwise combat character. With affecting skills mostly in the 3 or 4 range (mining, mining upgrade, astrogeo), I can throw off pretty close to 1000 m3 an minute. Could do even better if I wanted to spend money on better named lasers/upgrades/drones, or spend a few more sp and get into tech II. But still, I'd max somewhere short of 2K m3 a min.
At 1000 m3 a min, and a second char to haul, I'm throwing off less than 2 million ISK an hour. At best, even in an exhumer, you're maxxing south of 5 million.
Compare to level 4 missions. This week I'm repeatedly doing one of the big paying angel mission.. vengance I think it is called. or revenge.. or some such.
I logged in this morning for an hour before work. My alt ran and did 20 min of ice harvesting (4 blocks.. so what is that? 600K?), while my combat character cleared the first room. My alt then went and salvaged/looted room 1 while my combat alt killed the rats in room 2. I quit there. I had time to kill all but the last rat in room 3, but wouldn't have had time to salvage. So, I just salvaged up room 2 and headed to work.
My haul for the hour? 9-10 million in bounties
5-6 million in loot (18 trit bars, 5 armor plate, 40 logic circuits, dozens and dozens of lesser bits...)
It took 3 trips with a 400 m3 hold to haul out the loot, including a named battleship class afterburner with a market price of 10 million. I didn't sort through the rest, but there was atleast 3-4 million worth of other things in there. Heck, I think the 4 1200/1400 turrets I pulled are 3 million.
In short: in an hour of L4 mission I did somewhere north of 25-30 million ISK. Ignore the 10 million for the one afterburner and I'm still running about 10X what I could make mining.
Last week I farmed Angels Extravaganza. In 1.5 hours I was pulling 18 million in bounties, 5-10 million in salvage, and 5+ million in loot. Or somewhere around 15X what I could make mining.
