On race occasions, Hollywood manages to produce something thats actual art, and not just something created for profit. I know I know, with all the crap remakes and sequels its hard to belive there is anyone left in Hollywood that has the ability to create something special. Moon, is one of these rare occasions.
Moon is pretty much the perfect sci-fi in my opinion. And you better go see it ASAP if you are into the genre. And by sci-fi I dont mean battlestar gallactica or matrix, I mean sci-fi as it once was, and is supposed to be. The lead actor, Sam rockwell delivers a powerful performance, and to top it all Clint Mansell has created the soundtrack. I'm not going to post any spoilers what so ever, because if you havent heard of this movie, you should just see it without any ideas of what it is about. Just see it and be pleasently suprised.
If this movie doesnt win an Oscar then I have lost all faith in the movie industry.

You have faith in the movie industry? In the OSCARS? Do yourself a favour and just enjoy good movies when they come along and let the movie industry wallow in its own filth.
That said, this movie looks fantastic. Definitely want to go see it. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

I gave it a 9 on IMDB. Quite good movie. There's only a handful of movies that I rated that high.

Same here. And they did it with so little. A textboox example of substance wins over style any day of the week.

I saw the previews for this on OnDemand several months ago but never saw any ads for it at the theaters or on TV so I assumed it was a canceled project. This is a movie that really looks good but I think I felt the trailer gave away too much info about the plot of the story (and reading the wiki, confirms what I suspected).
(Potental spoilers)
IE evil corporation uses clones as a cheap labor force, clone finds out and goes on a crazy life journey questioning his existance. Only companion is a robot that has a heart and so forth.
Really I wouldnt mind watching it but it seems a bit too predictable.
Also am I the only one getting tired of corporations these days being portrayed as the default evil presence in a story? It may have worked in the 80's and 90's but it just seems like a clichT to me these days that a movie would have you believe that a large company is composed of enough evil people to screw over humanity for profit. On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

Megacorporations *are* screwing over humanity. They answer to no one but their shareholders. How many ceo's were sent to prison after it was revealed that the tobacco companies lied to the public about smoking not being dangerous? None.
How many CEO's were sent to jail for stealing peoples money in the credit crunch? None.
How many ceo's are punished for spreading false propaganda against global warning? None.
How many ceo's are jailed for having factories in the 3rd world where employees are not allowed to use the bathroom during their 14 hours workday? None.
Fact is Jacob, corporations are douchebags.

Edited by: Ealiom on 02/11/2009 14:19:36 I didn't really enjoy the movie : / Was good but the credit rolled and I had hoped to see something more. Judging by the chatter on the way out I wasn't the only one that felt that way.
A good film but by no means a classic.

My point is though that it is a cliche (which in story telling, is bad). Its been over used to the point that its predictable what their goals are. The viewer isn't required to think for themselves why the villain is who they are. Its like calling someone in a story the devil, no need to explain why he's the devil, all the viewer/reader/player/etc needs to know is that, their the devil.
An individual on the other hand whose the villain has their own agenda, reasons and motivations that the viewer can find out and maybe even relate to. You see where im coming from? On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

i watched this last night. Was a little disapointed myself. Not a terrable film but not exellent either. I understand what u mean about it being a return to old scifi. In that its more about the premise than exlposions. But i didnt love the character and was really annoyed by the ai helper thing. Why did it help him?
7/10
worth a watch nothing to write home about.
Now 2001 a space odessey now theres a real scifi film

I saw this a few months ago. Moon gets a 5 star rating in Slade's Offical Movie Review Index.

You are missing the point of the movie. IT was not about evil corporations even though the very small amount of time you see that heads of the corp that are potrayed in a dictatorial view I would say.
EDIT: The clones where not used as a cheap labor force, they were used here because they only needed one man to do the job and they did not want to isolate a man for numerous months on end without relief :END EDIT
It was about the man that signed up to do the job and his clones having to deal with the reality that they are just that clones with no real lives. So I think that your perception of what the movie is is not even close to being wholely correct.
Check it out and shout at me later if you do not like it.
Oh yeah and thinking that corporations are tree hugging hippies is just as laughable as them being the big evil. They are out for profit and some of them will do anything to increase the profits whereas others are run by those with consciences.

I simply have mixed feelings about the film.
On the one hand it was predictable and slow.
On the other hand it is one of the few scifis nowadays that actually hold a deeper meaning, and this gives it huge points in my mind.
Worth a see, however I won't be purchasing the dvd.

Edited by: SEN 5243 on 03/11/2009 11:23:13 even tho the movie may be good the trailer kinda fails hard for me. where is the story? what is it about? seems just like totally random suff thrown togehter.
besides that didnt we have all of this already with THX 1138 and 2001? only back then it was original.
but hey beautifull imagery. gotte leave em that i guess.

/me eagerly awaits the low-budget, independent filmic imagining of the LA Riots, starring Gary Busey as a racist cop and Jamie Foxx as a shopkeeper unwillingly swept up in the whole debacle.
