Hello,
because of some lowsec experiments my sec status dropped. Now I have decided that piracy isn't the way to go for me and I want a positive status again. Luckily it's only -0.01.
But then there is something I don't understand, I killed rats in multiple systems, ranging from 0.5 to 0.7 and waited for the increase. After some minutes some small increases are displayed, all like 0.0125 or so. But my displayed sec status didn't change at all. If i sum up all the increases my security status should be above 0.5 now. So here my question: How does the security increase mechanic work? What do I have to do in order to make it positive again?

they are %based increases.
you dont add them up ... you multiply them.

Okay, thank you for the input. But they are a percentage of what? Because just muliplying them doesn't work out...

% of the difference between 0 and 10 or 0 and -10.
For this reason ,you can NEVER get exactly 10 or -10 standing. The closest you can get is a standing that rounds to -10.

The percentages listed on any standing change is based on the difference from the extreme you're heading towards. (Sec status is simply Concord standing)
If you gain 1% standing, you gain 1% of the difference between your current standing and +10. If you lose 1% standing, you lose 1% of the difference between your current standing and -10.
So, if you have +2.0 standing and you gain 1%, your new standing is 2.0 + (10 - 2) * 0.01 or 2.08. If you have -10 standing and you gain 1%, your new standing is -10 + (10 - (-10)) * 0.01 or -9.80.
Thus the changes are larger the further you are from the end you're working towards. It's much easier to go from -10 to 0 than from 0 to +10.

What does the security status do for you?
Anything?

Positive standings do nothing
Negative standings under -2.0 will start to lock you out of highsec, with every -0.5 taking another security level of system you can enter away i.e. -2.0 for 1.0, -2.5 for 0.9 etc...
-4.5 is the lowest you can go and still enter highsec and -5.0 will make you an outlaw, legally shootable without any concord intervention anywhere.
When you get locked out what will happen is if you enter a system your not supposed to be in the NPC faction police will engage you until they destroy your ship, they will not go after pods.

Sec status is also capped at 5.0. So you can never get above that.
Ok, that wasn't entirely true.

So as a Gallente I cannot do the mission to throw me over the 5.0 limit eh?

Sure you can, you just need to be able to go into their space. And few people mess up their standings enough to not be able to do that.
But more to the point getting your sec status above 5.0 is mostly just a gimmick. You don't have much use for it. Unless you plan to put up a POS in the Sanctum constellation (since CONCORD has sovereignty there). I just linked it for fun.

It is sorta useless, as there are no CONCORD agents anymore, nor does it unlock anything, it more so just acts as greater buffer when you commit crimes.
For example I spent several months at 5.0 and finally lost it when I podded a war target spy nuet in 0.9 highsec. I went from 5.0 to 0.16 so that buffer was nice to have. ____________________________________________ When going to a party with wine, women, and song. Always acertain the vintage of the first two. |
