Originally by: KingsGambit To the best of my knowledge, Mass Effect is the only RPG that has absolutely every single line of text fully voiced over. So what you're saying is no other RPG ever made is up to your exacting standards? If you miss out on DA:O because the PC isn't voiced over, you're the one missing out dude.
I have to agree with this. Hell, it would still be an absolutely awesome game with NO voice acting at all. That said, everyone but the main PC has full voiceover, so...
TBH, the last RPG I bought prior to Dragon Age was Knights of the Old Republic II, so I hadn't realized RPGs had gone to voiceover for pretty much everything. Thus, it came as a shock when I started it up and came to the first conversation, expecting lines of text. Instead, there were absolutely none aside from player responses, just pure voiceover. Needless to say, I was rather stunned at the difference. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!" |

I am tempted to restart my game as a Dwarf and just insult everybody as I go.
I especially like the character creation tool - it's not the best I've ever seen in a fantasy game but it does have some good aspects (there's pretty much only one combo I've ever seen that glitches the face) and the expression slider has the best face ever when you drag it to the end. I was able to make my very anglular elf, so I'm happy. ________________________________________________

Right i have rented it out on console. I know i know. dont kill me. My pc is getting a bit old and would struggle with this. Any rate. Any tips on what groups to use? I just use my dog, myself(Human knight), Alistar and Moriessa. Got attached to them now. Guess i would need a healer at some point

Personally, I generally run with either Alistair or Shale (tank, stun, and knockdown attacks), Morrigan (DPS, crowd control), Wynne (healing), and my main character (a mage with the arcane warrior specialization; DPS/tank/crowd control).
As far as the other characters, I've found Leilana generally more of a liability than a help when I have her in party due to low hitpoints, light armor, and less than stellar bow DPS. I find the mabari war hound to be too limited (too few abilities with cooldowns that take far too long). I rarely use Sten even though his DPS and ability mix is quite decent. Due to the lack of a shield, he unfortunately doesn't tank all that well, and when it comes down to choosing between him and Morrigan as a secondary character, it's Morrigan every time for her DPS/crowd control/ranged attack ability. There's also an elven rogue who I admit I've never used, largely because, by the time I picked him up, I already had too good a thing going with my current group.
There's supposed to be one final character whom I haven't found yet. I believe it's a dwarf warrior, though I'm not certain. I doubt he will be capable enough to replace any of my current favorites, however.
EDIT: I seem to recall reading, when I was browsing the web trying to get an idea of what supporting characters were available, that you can pick up a certain other character who I won't mention here, seeing as how it'd be a major spoiler. I haven't gotten that far yet, though.
Anyway, have others had the same experiences, or have the found a way to make, for instance, Leilana, useful for more than just picking locks? -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!" |

Edited by: LordSwift on 09/11/2009 12:34:03 Yeah i was thinking about taking out the war hound. I actually found a Keycode for two items in the rental box. So i got two freebies, Blood Dragon Armour to be used in both Dragon Age and also gets me the armour in Mass Effect 2. \o/ Also a Ice Golem that can join my party once i complete its quest when i get a chance to get to it. Hoping he will be good. Just cant belive no one else claimed this keycode when they rented the game.
Edit: Also does anyone else think that sometimes they try to give you to many different characters to use and its a waste because most people tend to use one particular group of characters?

So in the end I brought Dragons Age for the 360 and im rather liking it. 6hrs playing so far (2x 3hrs cuz I re-write my save-game trying a dwarf, ffs!)
Ive found that the main character is a observer and luckily there's a two-way conversation going with other characters so it doesn't bother me that much.

Turns out I got an Email from GAME after all, with my promo codes for my preorder bonus stuff. Only by this time after some calls to EA cust serv, I already had the memory band on my account. So I have a spare code. If anyone wants a memory band (it's pretty pathetic really) add this to your EA account at http://social.bioware.com. Code is: B6AN-9Y7T-S4JC-RT55. Only good for the first one to use it
If you already have it, you can't use a second. It gives 1% bonus XP while wearing it. Anyway, I'm wasting time posting when Ferelden needs me! -------------

Oh how i love this game. hehe!! Going to have to buy it. Just completed the add on to free a Golem. no i have my own personal Golem to use and stomp on things. haha. Seems to have a dislike of birds tho. He stomped on one on the way out the village. when the other characters turned around and looked at him. He just shrugged. Cant stop laughing. haha Oh this is going to be fun |

I'm not so good with a brush, more of a sledgehammer kinda guy. Picture a hairy dwarf giving zevran a l'il man-love.
The romances seem quite open-minded and well thought out I guess. BW do them better than most other developers at any rate.
* MAJOR SPOILERS - MAJOR SPOILERS - MAJOR SPOILERS - MAJOR SPOILERS - MAJOR SPOILERS - MAJOR SPOILERS * There are 4 romanceable characters available. Leilina and Zevran can go either way, so there's 3 possible romanceables for any given character. * END SPOILERS - END SPOILERS - END SPOILERS - END SPOILERS - END SPOILERS - END SPOILERS - END SPOILERS * -------------

Some interesting stuff:
- When you have the dog in your party, at least once per dungeon/city/zone, speak to it. There's a chance that he will freak out about something. "What is it boy, do you smell something?" The dog will then run off and retrieve a free random item for you.
- Once while wandering around the world map, a cutscene began showing a meteor crashing into the ground. A farming couple gets there before your party and apparently finds a young boy in the crater, and takes him home to be raised as their own. You arrive right after to collect the strange materials from the meteor. Yes, Superman exists in Ferelden, or will in a few years.
- At camp, run through all the conversations with your dog. Everyone in your party will get in on the action, and some are quite humorous, such as the Klingon-like Sten getting into a growling competition with the dog and losing..."You are a warrior worthy of respect, animal!" -------

I am enjoying it but find the cut-scenes/talking a bit too frequent for my liking - at some stages I feel like I am playing Dragons Lair there is so much "action" over which you have little control.
Also having quite a lot of CTD issues with it as well :(
With the fights you spend so much time checking how much damage you are taking, trying to organise reps, pausing to sort the team out etc that you never really get to look at the graphical action on the screen!

I tend to play slower than most so many will have seen this, but last night I got that call storm spell and holy ****, talk about having a big red **** you all button! I got caught by that assassin and I was able to easily put his whole team under that marker, both melee and guys at range.

Worth noting. With the ore go to Soldiers Peak if you have the DLC. The smith their will be able to make a weapon of your choice with the ore. I chose One Handed Longsword and got this:
StarFang Damage 11.90 Critical Damage 3.40% Armour Protection 4.20 Strength modifier 1 +3 Dexterity +3 Damage +2.5 Armour Penetration Also has three rune slots
Anyone been able to get through to Morrigan further? I have got her 100% liking me and we have gone all the way. But she wont talk to me about why she refused to do it again. She seems like shes caught up in her emotions and is scared. But she keeps saying the same thing and telling me im selfish. Damn women. Also i simply LOVE Alistair, talking with him has me in stiches. So may of his responses are great.

When you first recruit Morrigan so to speak, ask her what her skills are and Alistair will butt in.
Hero> What are your skills Morrigan> Explains skills in some detail Alistair butts in> But can you cook? Morrigan> Yes... I suppose... i can cook. Morrigan Continues> I also know how to make several poisons from the various plants of the wilds, not that that has anything to do with me cooking, just thought you would be interested to know. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Zevran is quite funny himself. I like when you walk around alot and Alistair and Wynne start talking about You and Morrigan if you have kissed/eloped with her. Unfortunately i tend to stick to Me (rouge) Alistair, Wynne and Morrigan. So i don't get to hear much else. Occasionally Alistair and Morrigan have cat fights (One of which alistair concedes defeat to Morrigans logic) Or morrigan and Wynne get in battles about who is "Right and Wrong" in the debate between Malificar and Magi. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

one thing i love doing is snogging Morrigan infront of Allistar. His comment is so funny. But their was one time i was chatting to him about if being a templer meant he had not had sex or something. I decided to insult his manhood and he said in time he might forgive me for insulting him. Or maybe til lunch. then on a random he goes oh i have cheese for lunch.
Sorry i dont remember the exact conversation

Edited by: Zyck on 13/11/2009 01:40:50 I'm really loving my arcane warrior now. Level 17 so far. He just rips **** up.
I have him in full Legion Armor (from the legion of the damned in the dwarf part of the quest) and he barely gets scratched with the full arcane warrior tree maxed out. I have him with that arcane warrior only sword with 2 grandmaster runes, and usually have stone skin (I think that's what it's called), the arcane shield that improves defense, spell shield when necessary, spell wisp for a boost to spell power which boosts his combat ability with combat magic on, and of course the arcane warrior shield ability.
Without going into spoilers, with just him and the healing mage, I've taken down revenants and the boss of the anvil quest. He tanks better than my tanks do without competition and does almost as much damage with the runes on his sword. The only issues I have are when the target has high resists or immunity to the runes.
Anyway, really loving this game. The only thing I'd like to see are more skills. Having more than 4 class specific skills would be nice, especially with AW so I can do more than auto-attack with him when using combat magic.

playing a human noble rogue duellist (who oddly is carrrying a f off big axe). Its a great game, though I think whats lacking in the game is a good combat system (does get repetative imo, especially when you get the hard fights and rely on the most powerful spell combos: sleep + horror = often 1 hit kill or up to 25% health of a boss).
My favorite character is the antivan crow Zevan. His convoes are thouroughly entertaining, and i always crack up as he tried to chat up morrigan
