Just checking, but at least for the items I'm buying (RF gyros) it's quite a big save to buy the 5x BPC than to buy 5 gyros, and not in a "if you can manufacture with high skills" even with no manufacturing skills it saves me a large sum of money/lp/tags to buy the BPC and make them myself rather than buy the gyro, and even if I only want say 1 or 2 gyros I'm still better buying the BPC and making five then selling the rest the profits from which more than covers the cost of the ones I will be using.
Am I missing something or is it more financially sound to always buy BPCs and make the item if both the BPC and item are available?

I've asked myself this same question as well and I believe the BPCs are the better investment.

Well, if you did the maths right, the numbers won't lie to you. So short of doing the maths myself I'd say your conclusions are correct.

Edited by: Leather Jack on 08/11/2009 07:28:23 Unless you base your ISK revenue calculations on opportunity cost, the short answer is yes.
You will have more isk left in your wallet from buying the BPC's and building your own modules, than buying them off contracts from other people.
On the other hand, would you (instead of the above) procure the most profitable item ISK/LP wise, sell it and then buy a less profitable (ISK/LP ratio) item from contract, you'd save even more.

Biggest problem with the blueprint copies is the fact that tags are so insanely expensive

It actually depends on the item. As a very general rule, the bpc is preferable. A great case of this is faction ships. The navy omen costs 100k LP and 20M isk + minerals (5M isk) if you go with the bpc. The ship can reasonably be sold for 100M isk on average so this yields a net profit of 75M isk for 100k LP (750 isk/LP). To buy the assembled ship costs 240k LP + an omen and a nexus chip (5M isk roughly). So that's 95M isk for 240k LP (396 isk/LP). Obviously the bpc is far better. This however is not true at the BS level.
A navy apoc is worth 550M reasonably, it costs 500k LP and 200M isk for the bpc as well as about 80M isk for minerals. Net profit off that is 270M for 500k LP (540 isk/LP). An assembled navy apoc costs 600k LP, an apoc and a nexus chip (85M total). In this case you get 465M net profit for 600k LP (775 isk/LP). In this case, the assembled ship is the better deal.
Ships as a rule are not the best item for isk/LP return but it's good as an example and they are good when you need to offload a ton of LP literally over night. -----------------------------------------------------

you would have to buy more tags to buy 5 of the item anyways

Highest profit item i have found from the LP store is faction ammo.
ie Gallente Fed Navy AM charges, medium- 1600k lp, 1.6m isk, say 200k for 5k standard charges.. Sell for about 750 to 1000 per unit depending on distance from hub etc but nothing else ive found nets me the same return. When im at my pc ill do the sums for you (using phone atm)
