CCP Tyr, the party god of CCP, has published a dev blog about Fanfest 2012 where among other things, the dates are announced!
Check it out right here and then go tell your boss you're on your way to Iceland in March to attend the best party this planet has ever seen.
See you all there! CCP Guard | EVE Community Developer |

Should be there this year, so far it's always been pretty good :D I hope there will be a lot of gameplay related roundtables, and that they all have devs in attendance (unlike the FW roundtable last year). And hopefully the keynote will be more about internet spaceships and less about promoting nVidia.
Perhaps a slightly odd question: why have all the fanfest 2008 videos disappeared from CCP's youtube account? Can we get them back somehow?
Also, your website window title still says "Fanfest 2011". Someone copy-pasted methinks :P

Hi Tyr
Just wanted to say how awesome Fanfest 2011 was organised. It was my first visit to Iceland and I couldn't fault the entire experience.
If any of you are thinking about going but are a bit hesitant, I can't begin to tell you how welcoming Iceland and CCP were to everyone there. It was a weird experience walking around in what 'felt' like a station, with players from all corps and alliances talking, having a laugh and enjoying beer despite any in game differences there may have been.
Devs were very receptive and were happy to talk about even the most geeky of things to anyone. Not once did I see any staff member try and shrug things off, even when there was a disagreement. I know that it's easy for forum warriors to blast devs on here, but the professionalism shown by staff members was incredible; even giving up seats when lecture halls were full to players.
I hope the new place is kitted out in the same way - everything from the lighting in the lifts to the Quafe bars was perfect for the feel of the place.
Just two minor suggestions though: The level of theft at the coat rails was huge when the party happened at the last place. There were none before it was opened up before the party, but we counted at least 20 people who had their stuff nicked, my friend included. Once guy sadly lost his Eve ships (2 IIRC) that he had brought from the shop
Secondly, the shop desperately needed more stock. Most of the good stuff was sold out almost instantly and not restocked each day.

Dear Chase, thank you for those kind words. We will continue to improve the Fanfest experience and moving to a new location will allow us to shake things up.
Regarding your suggestions, we will have improved security and have a staffed cloak room and I will tell those EVE Store guys to stock it good. If not, you just have to rush to the store to get the all the hawt stuff

Hopefully, Iceland Air flights from Canada will start the weekend of Fanfest, not the weekend after as happened this year. Iceland Air's summer schedule (which includes direct flights from Toronto and Halifax) started March 27, 2011.
Some of us are loathe to fly through the US, and would require direct flights.
Sadly, the decision to attend is entirely based on Iceland Air's scheduling. I'm looking forward to attending, but only if I can get there directly.

A shame (for me) that it's not closer to Airwaves, as I can't quite justify two trips to the country in a year and will definitely be going to Airwaves next year after missing tickets for this one (been three years before). If you've not been to Iceland it's a beautiful place and the people are great. Bring much ISK for drinks!

The lack of devs at the FW round table was a simple case of a dev no show. Sometimes these things can happen where personal or work related things can result in a person not being able to attend.
For Fanfest 2012 I will personally try my best to organize a new FW round table and have a dev attend.

Actually, since I started improving on Fanfest it has gradually stopped being a "pulsu party" like we call it in Iceland. More and more EVE players are also women and attend Fanfest. Plus many a player brings his spouse to Iceland with him.
Here is a local article about Fanfest 2011 with the headline: So, now we know where all the beautiful girls where last weekend.
Just check out the party pics in the Gallery.

We will most definitely have round tables next year, as always. Harpa has 4 rooms that can serve very nicely as round tables. In the past we have only had 2 rooms (3 rooms FF11). But these rooms in Harpa are smaller, which has its pros and cons. A smaller room means less people that can attend (more rooms to try and compensate) but much more personal and a higher quality experience for participants.

Just be aware that the roundtables are one of the most interesting parts of FF, since players can actually engage in a two way discussion with the devs. As such, you'll need to make sure you have sufficient places on roundtables for the expected demand.
For highly popular topics (like 0.0 warfare) you might need several simultaneous roundtables to accomodate all the players (this was done at fanfest 2008 or 2009 too).
Failing to provide sufficient roundtable capacity will be very disappointing to many players, so please take care this doesn't happen. A "more personal and higher quality experience" doesn't mean much if it's something only a handful of people get to experience.

Easter is one of the reasons we have to do this in March because throwing an event close to or during Easter is not a good thing. Moving to close to summer in Iceland means high season in the tourist industry meaning higher prices on everything.
But, Easter is very early in 2013 so we might have to go April and that should be safe without hitting high season. This is at this point only speculation.
We can try our best to influence Icelandair to offer special Canada Fanfest flights but in the end of the day it is up to them of course.

Still hoping I can find a workaround for 2012, though.
Could you not fly to the UK then to Iceland? Or buy a boat :D
Flying to UK from Canada and back to Iceland is a very long route, considering you fly over the southern tip of Greenland and Iceland to land in Manchester. It would be like walking 5 blocks east, turning around and walking 2 blocks west, instead of walking 3 blocks east.
Sadly, flights to Greenland from Canada are tougher to find than flights to Iceland.
2012 isn't dead yet, its just a matter of finding the global minima, not just the local one(s), and seeing if it is an option.

Some of us are loathe to fly through the US, and would require direct flights.
Sadly, the decision to attend is entirely based on Iceland Air's scheduling. I'm looking forward to attending, but only if I can get there directly. Confirmed this morning.: Hello, YYZ service will start on 3/28/2012 (Toronto) YYH service will start on 6/7/2012 (Halifax) Regards Icelandair So the odds of me and guest attending is now not likely. Any chance of moving FanFest a few weeks later (into April) for 2013 ?? Easter is one of the reasons we have to do this in March because throwing an event close to or during Easter is not a good thing. Moving to close to summer in Iceland means high season in the tourist industry meaning higher prices on everything. But, Easter is very early in 2013 so we might have to go April and that should be safe without hitting high season. This is at this point only speculation. We can try our best to influence Icelandair to offer special Canada Fanfest flights but in the end of the day it is up to them of course. Best regards, CCP Tyr BTW: EVE is 10 years old 2013 :) Plus, pushing FF any later might run afoul with CCP Greyscale's next April Fools Null-Sec Nerf. Recall this past year's FF when CCP pulled the rug out from under smaller-scale null-sec entities via the Anomaly changes right after the event w/no mention @ FF?

I don't know if I'm just jaded due to my age or if the people who complain about corporate sponsorships just don't understand how this horse and pony show work.
Companies like nVidia don't just give away tens of thousands of dollars to companies like CCP to hold these types of events out of the goodness of their cold, calculating hearts. They demand an audience to help recapture that cash investment.
Personally I would much rather have companies like Polar Beer sponsor eve verses nVidia. At least I could use some free samples of their libation while at the show. And I wouldnGÇÖt mind wearing a tshirt from Polar Beer.. but you would never catch me in an nVidia shirtGǪ or the Quafe shirt from last yearGÇÖs fan fest. That **** is just too nerdy for me to wear in public. |

Do we have a rough date when the packages/hotel details will be available?
PS: This year can we please have the tournament rounds on time as I had to leave 4 events last year just to wait for our second round match. By that time we no longer cared and openly discussed throwing the match to get out of further rounds as we were missing so much of that day. |

I hope there will be a shuttle service from the Starbase to Captain Quarters. Because my Spaceship will be at maintenance this time! The new Starbase is 2-3km away from the Captains Quarter called Cabin and Co. Otherway the Spacetaxi was great and cheap! I remember only small peaces of Pub-Crawling...Nice Photos! This year i will stay a few days longer, to take a better look on Iceland! |

Interesting.
This years fanfest will be less about where the company's headed for the future and new advancements in the game,
And more about how they have to fix all the things that have been broken this past year.
The most important thing they have to fix.
Player relations.
Im betting attendance will be way down this year. But of the players that do go. Come with an agenda. Go to round tables and really bend the devs ears about what needs to get done.
CCP hasn't listened to us for the longest time, yet they did know they were doing somethings right as attendance steadily rose at fanfest.
Maybe when they look out at key note and see the hundreds of empty chairs, or worse, get boo'd by the crowd, they'll finally see the light and grip the gravity of the situation there in.
I wanted to got to fanfest for the past two years. This is the first time I've been able to go and now have absolutely no desire to go this year considering all thats happened.
CCP Eve has so much potential, please dont miss manage it into the ground before it hits its prime, over a game that cant function without eve, and tfor a game that hasn't even been created yet, and whose player base isn't guaranteed. |

Fanfest is about celebrating EvE not CCP, honestly regarding what happened I'll go anyway, to meet players and have fun with them, for this reason only you should go ! |

from the News section of the character selection screen....
" we are attempting too many things for a company our size. Developing EVE expansions, DUST 514 and World of Darkness has stretched our resources too thin."
"Sadly, this means reducing our staff. We estimate that around twenty percent of global positions will be affected by this process. "
Your answer to being spread too thin is to get rid of people ?
Personally I would have put World of Dorks on the back burner, fixed EvE and worked at getting Dust done right. Guess I'll never understand business practices.

Same here, i've sat for the past 2 years watching it and this year, i have planned to be there. even if i go roam Iceland solo, i'll be there.
Loads of time to save for it/arrange time off etc, but a monetary goal would be good.

Hoping to make 2012 the first time I make it to FanFest. From what I can see on travel sites, the trip would be at the upper end of affordability for me. Like some previous posters, I would like to have a general idea of what amount of fundage I would need to not just attend FanFest ... but to have a good amount of fun too.
Any advice from those who have attended before?
BTW: Holy long layovers at JFK, Batman! 10.5 hours on the way there, and 16 hours on the return trip. Total outbound trip (MSP->JFK->KEF) time 19 hours, total inbound trip (KEF->JFK->MSP) time 25 hours. Whee! Will be my first time in New York City too ... any advice on what to do during my layovers? |
