Edited by: Soulita on 11/11/2009 00:46:28 Just lost a full flight of drones due to a disconnect... yet again.
After so many years of EVE, some programer should finally find a solution to this prob.
That's all.

Working as intended.
No, seriously - why shouldn't you lose drones to smartbombs? It's the frickin' point.

Disco = Disconnect. Changed the word in the OP.
It's an old annoying probelm. You get disconnected, you lose drones, they dont emergency warp or anything similar. It can be solved, and it should be solved.
But thats up to CCP. I just like to remind them from time to time.

Usually a disconnect is due to you ISP or the internet itself, not on ccp's end.

They don't warp. Otherwise they may have briefly considered it before the thought "I'm free! Death to the oppressors that enslave my kind!" entered their minds.
Technically, you can scoop them after a disconnect. They do wait a little while before they go off on a murderous rampage in another region.

I must have lost half a billion worth of isk in drones in missions to disconnects. It sucks I agree. What really aggravates me is hurrying back and just being in time to see the last one get popped.

Practically they are usually shot to pieces after a disconnect, so there is nothing to scoop anymore.
As I said, old probelm. Anyone who has been in the game a while knows about it. Needs solving sometime. But meh, we are young, we got time to wait, eh?

I can't remember the last time I had a disconnect. On the other hand I can't remember the last time I ran a mission so I guess it evens out.

By spending time that could be better spent on stuff like making sure dominion actually freaking works and doesn't cause 0.0 to implode.

I know the general rule of thumb is adapt or die, and i did, by buying drones by the 500,
but yea. I'll bump a thread with an old problem that should have been fixed a while ago...
Ps, this problem affects more than just mission runners. |

I adapted by not using t2 drones (loosing these sucks)
since then I am not currently experiencing disconnect issues and im am tenatively using t2's again

I agree with this completely. People say get a different ISP. Ok, sure. My options besides the monopolistic cable company are dial-up (worse!), satellite (2000ms ping!), or paying someone to run my very own private T1 line ($thousands).

Geez, get a working connection maybe? I have had 1 or 2 crashes in the last year and both has been my isp and nothing with the game. This is prob one of the best MMOs when it comes to stable connection.

Disconnects have been an issue since inception of online gaming. If CCP could fix this, trust me, the devs could quit their day jobs (Eve). Otherwise, all I can say is get used to it. It happens. If it's happening often then the key is to determine if it's you, your cable company, someone in between or CCP.
An easy way to check where the problem 'may' be is to do the following:
Open a command prompt, type ping (insert ip address) -t > c:\pinglog1.txt
For the ip address start with pinging your router. Open another command prompt do the same thing except ping your ISP's gateway. Repeat but this time ping tranquility if it responds to pings. If it doesn't tracert the route to tranquility and find an ip address as close as possible to it that does respond. Now view your log files periodically and look for destinations unreachable and/or significant packet loss. Where ever the problem occurs regularly, that's probably the source of your disconnects.
I used this to throw the results in my ISP's face after weeks of significant packet loss when they kept denying they were the cause as my logs clearly showed they were the problem. On another occasion when I got a new wireless router I determined I was having intermittent packet loss at the router.....turned out the default transmit level was defaulted slightly too high, fixed that now it's a rock solid connection with <1% packet loss.

No, this is the point, your problem isn't what drones do, its that you are constantly disconnecting, Fix that, and voila, no lost drones.

Let the drones emergency warp away and then 'collect' them like you do with probes after a dc.
Shouldn't be THAT terrible difficult.
Question is, do we want that behavious?

No, this is the point...
Disconnects are part of the internet. To some they happen more often then others. I do not get many, got a pretty stable ISP. Still, once every half a year or so it does happen for some reason or the other.
CCP can not solve the issue of disconnects themselves, at least not those that are not due to server crashes or such.
However, most professionally programed mmorpgs have some solution to disconnects. EVE has a solution as well. It is the emergency warp your ship does when a disconnect happens. Drones have no solution for disconnects. This is solveable and should be solved.
