That is absolutly besides the point.
No, this is the point...
Disconnects are part of the internet. To some they happen more often then others. I do not get many, got a pretty stable ISP. Still, once every half a year or so it does happen for some reason or the other.
CCP can not solve the issue of disconnects themselves, at least not those that are not due to server crashes or such.
However, most professionally programed mmorpgs have some solution to disconnects. EVE has a solution as well. It is the emergency warp your ship does when a disconnect happens. Drones have no solution for disconnects. This is solveable and should be solved.
There *is* logic to this...

Exactly we need more DC's and drone losses...
This will in turn provide more delicious tears to drink whislt I bathe in the ISK made from drone sales. Removed. Please keep your EVE signature related to your EVE persona and not that of a real life politician. Navigator |

Regardless of whose at fault isp or ccp (though we all know its your isp)
A simple solution would be to have the drones carry on fighting when you disco and then re-connect when you warp back in or a least a button to do it, that way you might lose a couple from them dieing int he fight but at least they would stop and wait to die. ...
Originally by: CCP Ytterbium ...we do not want to nerf it on that aspect since it is supposed to be part of a sandbox game to adapt a ship outside its original purpose.

Indeed, like how hard is it to go into your overview setting and have a preset set to show drones and go around and scoop them up. At least that works until dev's sort something out.
I say prep for dustoff, nuke the site from orbit...

I guess I'm just lucky. My client crashes when I land on grids long before I get chance to deploy drones. I turned the graphics down to the minimum and now it only happens 1 in 100 grid loads instead of 1 in 40. Can I get a wireframe graphics option so it only happens 1 in 1000 please? --- WTB: Unwritten Forum Rules and list of posters you're not allowed to Report. |

If anyone ever managed to do that ...
Originally by: Soulita You get disconnected, you lose drones, they dont emergency warp or anything similar. It can be solved, and it should be solved.
Oh I see, fair enough, yes that should be possible to solve. _____________________

Solution: Make drones dock when a player disconnects. I can't think of a downside to this.
"Get a better ISP" is a silly argument when that is not always an option and a simple solution to the problem can be made by CCP.

No one works at EVE, it's kinda like SkyNet and is a self aware piece of integrated hardware/software that is going to take over the world

Think PvP. Or even a mission gone horribly wrong.
If you have to warp out at some point you consider whether you have time to pick up your drones or not. If you've already made that decision in PvP you've probably also decided you don't mind losing your drones to get out. If you happen to get out, at least the winner gets to steal/destroy the drones you left behind. You face a loss, even though you were able to save your ship.
So you'll need a solution that doesn't circumvent stuff like that.

As light/medium/large drones don't have the ability to follow ships in warp, implementing this feature, to solve dc's, wouldn't be logical. Perhaps implement "reconnect to lost drones" feature, right after warping back to mission site (getting back in your drone control range)? Helplessly watching your t2's, far out of scoop range, being slowly killed by rats is pretty disturbing

Usually I would agree, but I run dual accounts at one and when one gets a socket error, and the other doesn't, I'm strongly inclined to believe its CCP's problem.
I've lost 4 bombers in the last month, and 3 of them have been due to a socket close error. So its a much larger problem than losing a few cheap drones. I want to faction fit my bombers but daren't until I stop losing them senselessly to silly issues like this.
