Edited by: Grek Forto on 12/11/2009 15:27:01 You guys think the OP is a troll?
Any believers? I actually kinda strongly believe he/she is. I dont entirely go along with its going to cause the forum server to crash all wtfpwn like but I've had 2 server admins and a computer whiz in college who all believe it to be fairly likely to happen.
But if it does cause any instability to the forums server CPU activity... it could trigger a ****storm...
So... Overdue server maintenance? check. Overdue mass bannings of trolls? Check.
The game is as least screwed :P
Edit: Btw http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29 CCP knows the forum servers are overdue to be serviced. Thats about the servers CPU's crashing that they expect in 2012, which isnt a big deal really.

Destroying the Earth is harder than you may have been led to believe.
You've seen the action movies where the bad guy threatens to destroy the Earth. You've heard people on the news claiming that the next nuclear war or cutting down rainforests or persisting in releasing hideous quantities of pollution into the atmosphere threatens to end the world.
Fools.
The Earth is built to last. It is a 4,550,000,000-year-old, 5,973,600,000,000,000,000,000-tonne ball of iron. It has taken more devastating asteroid hits in its lifetime than you've had hot dinners, and lo, it still orbits merrily. So my first piece of advice to you, dear would-be Earth-destroyer, is: do NOT think this will be easy. ---------- There is always a choice. The choice might not be easy, nor simple, nor the options be what you desire - but, nevertheless, the choice is there to be made. |

If the entire human race moved to one side of the planet earth, pointed their behinds toward the sky and farted, would it thrust the earth into a different orbit?

Considering you can fit all of mankind in a 3x3x3km cube easily, no, it will not do a thing to earth's orbit. The average volcanic eruption has more thrust than that. --------

Well, there's still the logistics of it.
Sure you could force most people into the giant blending and storage device, but then you have to convince/trick those who helped you to jump in too. Then you would have to jump in yourself, leaving you no chance to savor the sense of achievement you would get from completing such a difficult feat.
I guess it's feasible with a programmable army of robots, but unfortunately technology just isn't good enough... yet.
I consulted Cleverbot about this...
Quote: Is it possible to liquidate the entire human race, and fit them into a 27 cubic kilometer container?
It is possible. Bands play music. Some humans like all music.
So bait them into the blender with sweet melodies? like the Sirens of old?
Sugary sweet.
What music would you suggest?
Becoming the bull by atreyu or remember the name by fort minor.
Thankyou, Cleverbot.

I'm going to make a prediction and say that nothing is going to happen in 2012. Absolutely nothing, just like Y2K.
Will the magnetic pole flip? Yes and it's already in the process of doing so. There are magnetic dead zones and hot spots all over the world. It will happen, it's just a matter of when.
And yes, the Yellowstone super volcano is overdue to erupt. When it does it will be a cataclysmic event that will be felt all over the world. It is an impending event that's not an if but a when.
A lot of looming stuff sure, but I still bet nothing will happen on 2012. ___________________________________

Thus proving that people are and for ever will be sheep.
The same people who believe in this 2012 BS... are the same people who line up every Sunday to pray to whatever "god" they believe in that is also not backed up by any proof.
The Bible is the Harry Potter books from 2000 years ago.
Moses uses the power of god and parts the red sea and is the savor of the people. Harry Potter flyÆs on a broom and uses a wand but for some reason he is bad and evil. Forgive me if I find fault in people who believe in the bible but burn another book that presented in a similar fashion. I don't believe any thing they say to be true or of any relevance to me. If they want to get spun up over something, fine... but please keep it off/out of my TV, Movie theaters, and new media.
Y2K ring any bells for people, nothing happened then, nothing will happen now. If IÆm wrong then were all dead anyway so it does not matter.
All this 2012 stuff is a scare tactic to keep people in line. Religion worked great in mid-evil times Thus proving that sheep will be sheep.

All this 2012 stuff is a scare tactic to keep people in line. Religion worked great in mid-evil times because the average person was un-educated and were scared by the idea of hell so they tried to conform to what ever anyone said would keep them from going to this Hell. How in todayÆs world something as illogical as religion still exists is the true miracle.
Yea I said it.
(let the flames begin )
But I digress... were having a talk about pole shifts on a game forum.
Are the poles going to shiftà yes. Will it happen in my life timeà. Maybe. Can I do a damn thing about ità No. So why FREEK out about it.

Edited by: Gaborelle on 13/11/2009 16:59:47 the earth's magnetic field is indeed in the process of fliping polarity... this is a slow process however and usually takes several thousand years to complete. it occurs roughly every 150,000 - 250,000 years.
its estimated to next complete its flip cycle in roughly 5,000 years so we are gonna be ok for now.
when it is at its peak of the change cycle the compass will be useless and humans will see aurora borileas everywhere in the night sky. solar radiation will be a big problem to as the protection normally given by the magnetosphere will not be strong enough.

I'm not even gonna touch the Yellowstone Caldera.
Actually the earths magnetic alignment going out of whack could kill us all from radiation exposure especially from solar flares and there is growing evidence that this has already caused lesser mass extinctions in the remote past. This happens because they think when the poles switch there is a considerable period when there is no cohesive global field and its just a bunch of magnetic loops starting and ending at random spots on the earth. This is bad because earths magnetic field is a huge em shield that blocks out that vast majority of fatal radiation that would cook off everything organic in a matter of months or years of constant daily exposure unless you lived the entire time in a cave.
As far as messing with the crust well I would imagine that all the magnetic rocks of the world suddenly not lining up with a global magnetic field might cause a bit of shifting here and there especially in areas where there is already high sesmic activity. And the yellowstone caldera is priming for a blast if the current evidence is any indication. Over the last few decades it has been steadily increasing in the rate of rise over the magma chamber and is up to about 1 to 3 inches a year and getting faster. Again will it blow on 2012? Who knows but blow it will be it tommorow or in ten thousand years. But tbh all that matters not because if something as cataclysmic as a super volcano erupting or the poles shifting really happens you are going to die unless you happen to be in the know for some sort of high level government survival program for the lucky few.
I've never heard of past magnetic shifts being linked to any significant rise in extinction. Do you have any links to reputable sites that confirm your statements?

You know, even if the world *did* end in 2012.... What the hell would you do about it? Go hunker in a bunker somewhere? Give up on work and everything and panic? How stupid would you look if 2013 comes and nothing happened, and you gave up everything because you thought something would happen?
What is the frickin point of believing either way? Just go about your daily business, no point doing anything else.

Valid point. Id like to recomend a book called Lucifer's Hammer(Larry Liven and Jerry Pournelle) it is good reading to everyone.
The story details a cometary impact on Earth, the end of civilization, and the battle for the future. It encompasses the discovery of the comet, the LA social scene, and a cast of diverse characters whom fate seems to smile upon and allow to survive the massive cataclysm and the resulting tsunamis, plagues, famines and battles amongst scavengers and cannibals.

I believe most people want to die on their own terms. Of course that almost never happens (suicide being the exception). We all die at some point, one way or another, may as well just enjoy the ride
